So my mother has complained about how boring her engagement ring from many years ago is (0.1ct diamond with detachable halo of cubic zirconiums on yellow gold bands) and my dad and I have decided we should get her a bigger diamond ring, around 0.5ct round brilliant diamond in platinum. She doesn’t want something big like 1ct. In Australia, Jogia in Perth have one of best prices and while looking at their available diamonds (D-F colour, triple excellent with Jogia “ideal cut”, up to medium fluorescence, at least VS2 clarity), came across two stones with slightly differing strengths.
0.55ct, D colour, VS2 clarity with a medium size crystal near the centre of the table, medium blue fluorescence
0.51ct, F colour, VS2 clarity with a small feather on edge of the table, no fluorescence.
The prices are virtually the same, differing by about $2 literally.
Now I understand virtually all GIA VS2 diamonds are eye-clean and only some fluorescent diamonds will appear hazy. Jogia also offers pre-shipping analysis to check whether the diamond selected have transparency issues and if it’s eye-clean so that takes some worry out of equation. But given the information above, which would you select, slightly bigger diamond with better colour, or one without fluorescence uncertainty and no significant inclusions at the centre of the table? Let me know what you think!
