I have $1-2,000 to spend on a treat. I have a solitare ring 1.19 C and I have diamond earrings 80 points each ear. I was thinking of either upgrading my earrings (they are very good cut, good clarity, lower in color)....or getting ring reset with diamond in center and sapphires on each side.
I think upgrading diamond earrings (they are Whiteflash--good for trade-in) to a noticeable level in either size or color would cost more than my budget. I could get jackets but don't know if I like that idea.
Opinions?
Any idea on cost of sapphires? I like them nice color, not too dark...towards Ceylon color.
thank you.

I think I'd be most tempted by a reset, if you don't plan to upgrade your diamond in the future! What does your current setting look like, and what sorts of settings are you interested in - vintage-y, modern, three-stone ...?

I think the studs would be out of proportion compared to your ring to make them any larger. I think .80 each is a very nice size for a final pair! So I'd go with the reset, but it may be more than $2000 if you get high quality sapphires and use platinum. I'd call someone like Wink at Winfield's to ask about sapphire pricing. A three stone with sapphires is one of my very favorites!

thanks for the replies.
my current setting is yellow gold 6-prong round solitare
I should probably go to a couple of local jewelers and get some ideas about size and shape of sapphires and whether yellow gold would still work or platinum would be better. I kind of like yellow gold with my fair skin.

Do you think putting colored stones next to a diamond that's lower in color will make it look whiter?
