I used to ridicule some of what showed up on catwalks.
I stopped doing that after a friend explained Haute Couture is not about what regular folks would wear in regular life.
Rather it's about creativity and artistic expression given unlimited freedom and budget.
The art is what the designer comes up with to put on the human body, which is merely a blank canvas.

I was going to say exactly the same thing. I think with jewelry as well, some of the designs are intended to show off technique and craftsmanship, more than wearability.

Sure, and definitely amethyst because my wife loves them! They will be the fanciest beer coasters in the solar system. I'll even ask for bids to commission a haute jewel-encrusted beer helmet to don while up in a skybox at The Big House. I shall redefine high society.
