3, 4, or 6 Prongs for Small Studs?

Well, not too much in a rush. It was supposed to be my birthday present but I can wait. The problem is that I am not sure how much longer the vendor can hold the stones for me. If I purchase them now, they will be sitting in the box in my home. Then, once we reopen (I am in So Cal so it is not looking great), I would go and try them on, and then have to send the stones back to the vendor to set them....etc... seems like a hassle

Where are you looking to buy them from? Can you order them in the setting you like and return and switch out if you don’t love it?

OP
3 prong do not give a “triangular” look.
Here is a pic of my daughter wearing them with the Fiore jackets from BGD. Sorry not a great pic, but if you zoom in, you will see they look very round.
Also the jackets give the diamonds are larger look. If you have pearls studs, can wear with jackets also. 676999

What size are your daughter's earrings? Definitely look more round on her than the ones I saw online with 3-prong setting. Wonder if a stone size has anything to do with it.

They do custom settings only so I would be "stuck" with them unless I want to pay for yet another pair of settings.

Would these show off the diamond well AND be easier to clean than the standard 4-prong basket settings?Screen Shot 2020-05-16 at 7.41.07 PM.png

Those stones are set FAR too high! I'd want a slightly larger base and the stones set as low as possible. The culet of the stone should be just slight above that round base.

I am going to show you what I mean about a larger base so the earrings sit flat against the earlobe rather than tilting downward. Ignore the number of prongs on mine because a wider base can be had regardless of the number of prongs. This also shows the diamond set low.

Here is my previous pair with 4 prongs:

Oh, sure. I posted the pic to see if it is a good compromise between 3-prong martini and 4-prong basket. But nevermind, they cost $795 at BGD, and that is too pricey for just a setting, especially if I am planning on an upgrade.

OP, the stone sizes are about .33 each. Bought from Lesley at BGD. The Fiore jackets makes them look bigger. I bought the studs first, then about a year later the jackets came along.

They are beautiful and the jackets make them stand out. I am thinking of adding a halo sometime in the future, also from BGD.

Good point. The upgrade cost for the setting of studs makes me just want to wait and save and buy the size I want to end up with. I hate the idea of spending so much on the setting and then replacing it— but I also want to get my idea setting.

I know, right? I l learned my lesson with my e-ring and its $2,000 setting that now just sits in the box.

Whiteflash (and I am sure others) offer 4 prong basket and martini settings for $195. I highly recommend one of those to people who think they will ever upgrade! I do recommend doing fewer upgrades than I did, though!

What did it look like?? I’m always surprised I don’t see more settings on LT with the amount that we all change our settings.

It was Tacori Sculpted Crescent Solitaire (with halo.) I had a smaller diamond and wanted it to appear bigger. I wore it for about 3 weeks.

Oh no!! Three weeks?! I am changing out the setting on my new ring—but was able to return it because it wasn’t custom. I still haven’t decided what I want to do. I liked the setting I had but it just felt too thin and I think I want to do yellow gold. I just don’t want to regret it and want to switch it out.

I was thinking of returning but back then I was into the halo trend and thought that I would use it again as it is a pretty setting. Well, my taste has changed and I have never used it again (plus the size of my stone has changed as well. Tacori was for 1.61ct stone.)

If you still haven't decided, browse this forum, people on here posted great pictures, you might find something that speaks to you.
