Just been thinking about this, I am in the minority here on pricescope but I like very small sidestones, smaller than any in the chart that @ecf8503 just posted. Having said that there have been some stunning 3 stones that have been posted on here with bigger proportions that I have loved. Perhaps the separation of each stone so they don’t merge together is one of the most important factors to me and then I can appreciate larger or smaller sides.
@meely I have always loved bigger sides but thought most people actually prefer smaller sides. That's the impression I got when I first started looking at three stones posted on PS. Now for me it totally depends on the stone and the style of the three stone. Hard part is I like them all. And yeah, there are so many factors - how separated the stones are from one another, how high they're set, whether and how much they are tucked, the angle of the sides, the size of the stones as compared to each other, the size of the ring. I am overwhelmed by all the variables.
How weird, perhaps we have different ideas on what constitutes bigger sides though.
Yes I agree, those ‘so many other factors’ are probably the reason why we like or don’t like. I think we can all ready like something that isn’t necessarily the combination we ourselves would choose if the execution is spot on.
Just looked to see when you joined unless the trend has changed significantly since then but it was only a couple years before me.
You've probably looked through the three stone thread. Seems like a lot of those have smaller sides.
Yeah, true though. My definition of smaller sides is anything less than 70% in the ratio comparison above. So maybe most of what I consider small others consider big.
I love the look of your three stone too!
