What is your favorite 3 stone proportions? Some like the center to really stand out and use smaller sides while others want larger sides. What is your preferred center to side ratio?

1:2:1
Athough I appreciate other combos, this is my fav EC8330A7-62B5-4222-BDED-2C2F6D260B7A.jpeg

1:3:1 is nice!

Just been thinking about this, I am in the minority here on pricescope but I like very small sidestones, smaller than any in the chart that @ecf8503 just posted. Having said that there have been some stunning 3 stones that have been posted on here with bigger proportions that I have loved. Perhaps the separation of each stone so they don’t merge together is one of the most important factors to me and then I can appreciate larger or smaller sides.

@meely I have always loved bigger sides but thought most people actually prefer smaller sides. That's the impression I got when I first started looking at three stones posted on PS. Now for me it totally depends on the stone and the style of the three stone. Hard part is I like them all. And yeah, there are so many factors - how separated the stones are from one another, how high they're set, whether and how much they are tucked, the angle of the sides, the size of the stones as compared to each other, the size of the ring. I am overwhelmed by all the variables.

How weird, perhaps we have different ideas on what constitutes:lol: bigger sides though.
Yes I agree, those ‘so many other factors’ are probably the reason why we like or don’t like. I think we can all ready like something that isn’t necessarily the combination we ourselves would choose if the execution is spot on.
Just looked to see when you joined unless the trend has changed significantly since then but it was only a couple years before me.

You've probably looked through the three stone thread. Seems like a lot of those have smaller sides.

Yeah, true though. My definition of smaller sides is anything less than 70% in the ratio comparison above. So maybe most of what I consider small others consider big. ;)2

Second part of your response - that will be it!
I’ve looked though that thread but generally as well and obviously noticed quite a few show me the bling posts over the last few years.
I really like the proportions on Meghan Markle’s ring and I definitely think there has been more of a trend towards smaller sides since she got engaged. I’m just about to do a sapphire 3 stone, so pleased I will only be going for 3.5mm or so sides as it will be far cheaper than if I had a penchant for bigger sides
Edit - have you got a 3 stone? I’m now stalking you and looking to see :oops2:

I'm in the process of getting a a 3-stone created and they diameter ratio I chose was about 65%, Didn't really have a choice since I'm using existing setting that I own. I do love that look of a bigger center and smaller sides.

That being said, recent OEC 3-stones posted with similar size stones are gorgeous in their own "antique" inspired way, so it really depends on the shape and the look one is going for.

My personal fave is still 2:3:2 (66-70% I guess?). But lately I've come to realize that the tilt angles and spacing are more important to me than ratio.

I like some of the larger sides with a center stone but not for an engagement ring. I still like the center diamond to be the standout. We are all different though - that’s what makes the world go ‘round!

I am with you! I have a 1.3 center, ~0.25 sides. I like sides that are even smaller than mine for sure - mine are currently as big (ratio wise) that I would ever go.

I am in the process now of designing my 3 stone. I have a 2.4 ct OEC 8.4 mm center stone so it has taken a while to find matching pairs. I compared my 1 ct diamonds I already had and those looked to big to me so I am definitely not a 1:2:1 girl, then I tried the 0.6 ct sides ( 0.25:1:0.25) and they were pretty but then we found some 0.8ct sided and the 1:3:1 was perfect for me. Just got my smoker from David Klass and I definitely like the 3:1 ratio the best. I am having the sides dropped a little and it should be good to go. IMG_8567.jpegIMG_8568.jpegIMG_8549.jpeg

Based on @ecf8503 ‘s pic, I like 70-78%.
