Figures of all days I would busy at work. I can''t concentrate today for anything!

My ring is a very simple solitaire- a slim knife-edge shank of YG with a 4 prong peg head in platinum, 1 carat stone. I went out for lunch and finally saw it in the sun and it''s beautiful! I proose I will put up pics as soon as I can. It actually looks kind of neat paired with the claddagh that won''t come off, but I know I will have to get it cut

Ian called me today on his lunch break (yes, I''m using his name now) I had asked him last night one we got ready to go to sleep if he felt any different, since he semed so calm. He said that his heart finally slowed down- boy it was racing when he was asking me and he doesn''t like public speaking so he went way out of his comfort zone to propose on one knee in the middle of a busy parking lot. Today he said he feels very different. He catches himself smiling. He''s not really a ''socialize with co-workers type'' like I am, but he''s actually told people he works with.

Only thing now is we both are getting the ''oh sh*t'' feeling... knowing the amount of work that goes into planning and the onslaught of ''help'' from everyone. He says "I don''t know... in Vegas in front of Elvis could be the way to go".

OMG I'm so excited for you!!!! YIPPEE!!!!

I am so happy for you!!! What a sweet proposal, too!

BEST WISHES!!!

A million congratulations to you!!!

I''ve been following your story for quite some time now... all the speedbumps along the way to your wonderfullly romantic proposal!

Our situations were quite similar with the seemingly disinterested in getting engaged boyfriend who suddenly goes "Woh!! I want to marry this fantastic woman!!" and then suddenly they are all full speed ahead to the proposal and wondering why the heck they didn''t do this sooner!! Something goes off in their brain... a revelation of sorts... silly but loveable creatures they are.

Funny how all that waiting and wondering melts away.... far away.... as you are staring into your FIANCE''s eyes and seeing how happy he is to be proposing to you and how absolutely "right" everything feels now.... and of course everytime you look at your sure to be gorgeous ring you''ll be reminded of the proposal over and over again.

I''m so happy that everything is working out for you. You seem like one awesome gal who definitely deserves the happiness you are feeling right now!

Thank you so much everyone- I don''t know how I owuld have survived the bad phase without venting here. My head is just all over the place. We now have to talk budget and he''s making me crazy, telling me not to worry, he has money and everything is all set. I was going to use my tax return to help pay deposits and all that, since I''ll get a good amount with the federal student credit, and he says no, use towards paying off your loans. I''ll take care of the other stuff. I don''t want him drowning in debt. I don''t want him to have to ask his parents. I don''t think he would, if anything his parents would just volunteer it. The huge problem will be the dress and for what I would like I have to get it made and that''s some cash. I''ve already started losing my mind!! trying not to become a bridezilla.

So I finally broke the news to my mother. Some of you know how bad our relationship is. She actually took it very, very well. You would think she was truly happy with how she acted. She gives me a big hug, starts saying "oh, we need to start saving money, oh there are plans to be made..." on and on. Then of course when I told when we wanted to do it, I knew the response I''d get- "October when? This October? Why so soon? Are you expecting?" I said to her you think that''s the only reason why he''d be with me? All in all, it wasn''t too bad. My oldest sister knew it was coming, I told her about the diamond shopping. My other sister got all weepy eyed.

I''m so glad your mother took it (relatively) well! I''m sure even with all the history between you two, she is still genuinely happy for you! That said, there''s no reason not to share your joy more with your sisters and friends (& PS!) who will be even MORE happy and excited for you!!!

That is sweet of your FIANCE (!!!) to want to take care of all the wedding expenses...I''m sure once he figures out just how much the whole thing will cost, he''ll reconsider though.
2.gif
It''s SOOOO GREAT to hear how excited and into this he is now!!!

Now hurry up with those ring pics!!!

Thats not too soon. I have a 5 month engagement its just right to get everything done. I also recommend having ceremony/reception at same place and have them do a lot of services in house. Mine does food, cake, flowers, minister, dj, ceremony music, etc. All I have to is dress, photographer, and invitations mostly. It has saved me so much time and stress. My friends and myself included thought I''d totally be bridezilla or stressing over the details, and everyone is amazed how relaxed I am about everything. We don''t care about the wedding (but it will still be nice), we just want to be with eachother. Just keep in mind that no one will notice the details as much as you think they will. And delegate, people ask me all the time if they can help with things.

I had a co-worker that put together a gorgeous, small wedding at an inn in NH in 5 months. It can be done. Also the time of year is kind of in our favor and if we 100% decide on that date, a weekday evening will save even more money. I''m just worried the dress expense.

I hope my mom doesn''t think she can now invite relatives of hers that are just like her and that I haven''t seen in years. I''m not having that situation of ''let''s turn this into a big, reconnecting social event for everyone I know.''

If you''re paying for the wedding, you''re the one who writes up the guest list!! You haven''t let her ruin your engagement, so don''t let her turn your wedding into something you don''t want it to be!

Can we see ring pics now?
12.gif

I''m getting married on a Friday and highly recommend it. Its saving me money on my location and photographer. Plus I have two BMs that have weddings to go the next day so this way they can do both.

First of all this is very, very exciting!!! Congrats again & I can''t wait for pix. 2nd-ly -- we''re in the same boat so to speak, as I (gulp) haven''t started planning my October wedding yet even though I got engaged in the beginning of November (holidays, stress, travel - ya know). WE CAN DO IT!!! I got yo back.

NTY-I''m so glad your mother didn''t react too badly to your announcement. Please don''t let her take over YOUR wedding. Do you really want a bunch of people ''just like her'' sharing your happy day? Tell her you want a small intimate wedding(even if you have 500 people there when she shows up)and you want to do it yourself. Just my opinion. I just don''t want this woman to hurt you more than she already has.
BTW- You have the greatest FI EVER!!!! And YOU DESERVE HIM!!!!!
1.gif

Darn it- why am I having a crazy busy couple of work days when I''m too excited and preoccupied to work!!!!

We definately want it small and no way is this woman going to dictate what goes on and who comes. We will be paying for things. His parents might contribute, but I won''t take any money from my mother even if she offers because there will be too many strings coming with it. She better not hem and haw about the guest list.
I think we can pull together something really nice in 8 1/2 months. We want it to be a party where people have fun with us and celebrate, not a big pomp and circumstance thing. Figures, the weekend we were thinking of driving up to see a place we might like, we''re getting a snowstorm! I don''t mind snow, but not this weekend!!!!!!
29.gif

I agree with you moon river- yep I have a good one. I know it. It''s just realizing that he does truly want to be in this with me. It''s what I have wanted all my life- someone who loves me and accepts me as I am, wardrobe and all and is happy to be there. Now that I have it, it still seems unbelievable to me and have all the horrible dating memories leaving.

I PROMISE to get some pictures posted. I don''t have a digital camera and I''m kind of a computer idiot so a co-worker is going to bring hers to take some shots out in the sun (if we have the sun back by Monday) and help me post them. I don''t mean to hold everyone in suspense- I''M SORRY! I''m finally leaving work now, I may not be back on the computer until Monday so have a good weekend all. Yes I will try to get some pics!!!!!!!!!

Nytemist, your story made me cry and not just a little either. Sheesh, you''d think it was me for how I reacted.
9.gif
I agree with setting limits on guest lists. I had to do that with my MIL. She was just insisting on this and that, and I said no. Sixty guests is the outermost limits of what I will agree to. My husband and I paid for our wedding, but it was in their backyard. She did pay for the tents, but I still did not feel that it gave her the right to make the guest list and I said as much to her. My DH was rock solid beside me, and said mess with us, you''ll be off the guest list. Direct, yes, but effective.
2.gif
Congrats and best wishes to you both. Post pics when you can.

congrats

I haven''t been around long but I did follow your story the past few months and was hoping it would all work out

mind yourself in the snow .... my poor hubby has to go in, has to be at work at 5:00AM - sucks!

but I''ll be checking on here for pics and I''ll be in touch about getting together
still can''t damp down the excitement - just SOOOOOOO happy for you !!!!!

CONGRATULATIONS !

So this morning a co-worker brought her digital camera to the office and we spent the morning taking pics in the sunny spots. She will load them tonight and hopefully I should have some to post tomorrow!!!! Yesterday we spent the blizzard curled up in the recliner going through the bride to-do list book that I was given and and checking off things we don''t need to do (hire a consultant, announce it in the paper and such) Makes it all so real!!!!!!!!! We looked up some places online to have the cermony and reception and found one that looks promising, have to call today if they have the date available. If so, going to see if we can set up an appointment to see it and talk details this coming weekend. It''s a pain since so many places have guest minimums.
29.gif

I''m still tigger-bouncing around my office!!!
