For me, I like this shade of purple so it would be an easy decision but in your case, this is not the colour you are looking for. Take your time to think over it. Do not let the idea of others wanting this stone pressure you into a hasty decision. What they want isn't necessarily what you want. What you want isn't necessarily what others want.

Great advice. While I still haven't made up my mind, the stone is growing on me. It certainly isn't what I expected, but it is beautiful in its own right. In natural light it can be quite pinky. I have never loved purple, but this seems to be such a rich colour. I only see the flashes of peach in my office light which I captured in the pic. I will try to get some other shots today. It is the opposite of my sapphire, which is an almost blinding blue outside and a bit more subdued inside. The tourmaline seems brighter inside, and pinkier. The stone generally seems to suit my skin type.

I am considering keeping it and then just remaining on the hunt for my rubellite type stone. The price per carat on the tourmaline actually turned out to be quite reasonable, less than others I have seen. If I return it, I am out the amount Canada customs charged me and shipping.

A couple more shots. I am finding this stone incredibly hard to photograph. All the pics seem darker than the stone does in real life. I am just using my phone though, and am no photographer.

That is REALLY beautiful, but I can totally see how it wasn't quite what you wanted, too. Don't envy you the decision! Agreed with others not to let all the interest influence you too much :)

If you didn't live in Canada, and the return fee was minimal, would you keep it? Do you think it's worth setting No matter who else loves it, YOU have to love it, or at least like it enough to consider wearing it. The reason I say this is because I have kept a lot of gemstones that I was on the fence about, and wished in hindsight, I would have returned them.

^ this is exactly what I was thinking -- for me, I have no problem with returning stones that in person I found to be wonky-shaped or to have visible inclusions, even stones that ended up to have the same color as another stone I already owned ... but it took me a lot longer to be okay with returning perfectly beautiful stones that just weren't exactly what I was looking for (or on my short list of "must buy" stones). My jewelry/gemstone dollars only go so far, so my criteria for keeping a stone is much tighter than it used to be.

I've found this too.. I've kept a few stones (luckily all under $500 at this point) which I liked but didn't love because the cost and hassle of shipping it back to the US for overseas was not worth it... Not sure what to do with those gems now! I have become more selective due to this experience.

Hi All, After a lot of consideration, and hauling the stone around for a couple of days to examine it in every possible light, I have decided to keep the tourmaline. I have really grown to love the colour, and the beautiful cut just makes it sparkle far more than expected. If you had told me in advance I would choose to keep a purple stone, I wouldn't have believed it!

Thanks to all who took the time to post and helped ensure I made a decision I would not regret.

I took the stone to my jeweller this afternoon and he got all excited designing settings for it. He thinks the stone deserves/requires diamonds, so it looks as though we're off and running. I would have loved half moon diamonds, but they are just so crazy in price we are looking at alternatives. Apparently trillions aren't very popular at the moment and are much more affordable, so they are in the running. He's going to sketch out a few ideas for me and I am going to start scouring the coloured stone threads.

I am so glad to have made my decision!

For those who were interested in the stone, I believe Jeff may have some more rough.
See, I am not so grumpy anymore :))

I snapped a shot of my stones that are currently in different stages of projects at the jeweller's. Acinom, you can see my yellow zircon, although it is a poor shot. The halo is done for it and he is setting the diamonds so I should have final pics soon. The three bottom stones are all cut by Jeff White.

Whoot! SO happy for you! :appl: I'm glad you got to know your stone and that you're happy with it. So now I wanna see how you set it.

Geez o pete I love that yellow zircon :lickout: You have a fantastic collection!

Thanks Arcadian. It has been a journey..... That yellow zircon is pretty yummy. I had taken it to the jewellers last year, but kept bumping it for other projects. I had forgotten how pretty it is!

I am glad to hear you have decided to keep the tourmaline, and I look forward to seeing the finished ring, as it will be very lovely.

DK :))

Yay I'm glad that you're keeping it! Looking forward to seeing it set!

Project envy here with all those great stones  Cannot wait to see this one finished..it really is a killer stone!

That really is a killer stone. It'd be at home in yellow or white gold.

the most important thing is that it pleases you, not us....and i'm glad you decided to keep it as it really is lovely!

So happy that the stone has grown on you :appl:
It looks so fabulous with your skintone. I am really excited for you and I am looking forward to see the result.

Thank you for sharing your amazing stone collection. I love love love the saturated colors and it's great to see the zircon again!!

It has been quite a journey but in the end you might even appreciate it more because of all this. You seem such a very nice person and I am so glad you have all these goodies coming up :appl:

I like it a lot, although I do love purples. It's interesting the rough looked peach/pink but the stone has purple in real life! I love color stones.
