A $35K ring or a $35K car?

Easy for me because I don't think that I would ever spend $35K on a piece of jewelry. It would be a car in the next three months, 3 years, or even 3 decades…. This is, of course, assuming that we needed a car. If we didn't actually need one, then the money would likely stay in savings or if it absolutely had to be spent on something, it would go towards a family vacation.

Ring. Because I will search for a deal and ONLY get it if I can pay $35k for a 45k ring, so the ring will always be worth at least what I paid, no matter the depreciation rate. The car will lose a ton right off the lot, especially since our work parking lot is outdoors and almost every car over 10 years old looks like crap due to sun damage. No point buying a nice car.

My corolla is almost 10 years old and I've driven less than 70k miles. It should last another 20 years!

Ring. Definitely ring, for all the reasons already posted.

Car for certain, as my car is an old girl being over 12yo with 177k+ miles on the clock! I have already spec'ed my next car, just need to wait until I am more financially stable before getting it.

Don't need more bling.

DK :))

Heresy! :errrr: :cheeky:

Right now if I had to pick one it would be the ring. We dont need a new car since both of our cars are fairly new. One was purchased Nov. 2010 and the other was purchased Feb. 2011, although I would l love a sedan sunce we drive a MB GL450 and a Honda Odyssey Touring. A little car would be nice to have but just wouldn't fit the family.

So, a ring but not really sure what I would get. Definitely an AVR but have no ideas on setting. Etc.

A ring for me please (I see one in my future  ). I have a 2012 Cadillac SRX but who knows...I really want a 2014 CTS.

Funny you should ask. I'm plunking down $35K just on a down payment on a new car.....I can only imagine the type of ring I can have for $35K, but I'm happy with what I have now.

Neither. Though in financial good shape, I prefer ordinary mid-range cars such as Honda or Toyota sedan, small Nissan truck or small Subaru SUV. I have never bought a new car for over $19,000. I'd pay up to $24,000. I would never drive a Lexus or other nice luxury car. I like to blend in on the road and not be noticed at all. Hence no bumper stickers either.

And I can't spend 35K on a nice beefy ring, I can't justify it - I'd go the 10K route if in the mood to spend money on a luxury item - the 10K being spent on a pre-owned beefy well-cut, near-colorless, high clarity solitaire ring.

The ring. I don't care about cars at all, as long as it's functional. I've also been the victim of several rear-end accidents that ended my relationships with those cars. A ring would last much longer for me. :naughty:

Funny, I can easily justify 35k for a car, but I can't for a ring. But I'd rather have the ring:)

I can't imagine spending that amount of money on either a car or jewellery! I can't imagine I ever will. But If I had to chose, I would go with the more practical option that would potentially be of use and enjoyed by others too - the car.

On the subject of mileage, I was surprised to discover last week that my car is at 174,000. She ain't bad for an old girl!

Hands down, a car. My car has over 120K miles on it and even though it's still going strong, I'm ready for a new one. At 35K, it would be an upgrade from what I have now. Bonus!

I'd use ours as trade ins and get JD and I each a new vehicle for that.

I love my ring and couldn't imagine spending that much on just one.

Definitely a ring. Cars depreciate and rust. Diamonds stay beautiful!

I ordered my Audi Q7 TDI (Turbo Diesel Injection)....it is on the water, being shipped  can't wait!

I say ring. You can get a magnificent ring for $35k but just a mediocre car for $35k.

VERY NICE CAR!!!...take me for a spin!.. :appl:

car...mine is dying a slow painful death.....

If money is no object, I would spend 35k each on a car AND a ring!

Well, if that were an option I would spend 70K on the ring and keep the old car.

Ring.

I just paid cash for a new car six weeks ago so I have no diamond dollars.

The car. I'm gonna hit 100,000 miles tomorrow on my corolla!
That is low mileage for a Toyota you can still drive it for another 100K miles. Last summer I bought a 2005 Lexus with 89K miles on the clock and it drives like a brand new car.

Yes, but it doesn't have all the fun new tech gadgets!!!!

Don't know how to use the ones in my car..

If I had to choose, I'd take the ring since my car is just fine for now. :) But if I could do something else with the money, I'd pay for the wedding with the $35k or put it toward a down payment for a bigger house.

Pre-owned ring and pre-owned car. Pretty sure I can get both for far less than retail.

I drive a vehicle that cost beyond $45-50k new, I'll probably drive it into the ground. What I paid for it leaves me $35k, so I'll take the ring and keep the car!

Would never ever spend that much on a car but I would love that ring I am sure

Neither.

35K is a good down payment on a house here in TX. And if it is only 10% down, you can get a heck of a home for 350K in these parts. I'm talking nice. Really nice.

I can buy the car I want for less. I've been in the biz. I know the best deals and have connections.

No one I know has a 35K ring. (Ring, as in singular and probably a whopper.) Outside of the pseudo-society types in Dallas or Houston, you would have a very hard time finding anyone wearing that kind of finger bling in this state.

Half the sum on each.

I vote ring would not imagine spending 35K on a car.
Ask DH he would vote for the car, he couldn't imagine spending 35K on a ring :naughty:

If this was real, we probably would get DH a new car. He is driving a 2010 KIA Sorento that he loves and is fully paid for so he doesn't want a pmt, so the 35k would get him a new car, he is very low maintenance, probably a new Kia, and I can spend the rest!!!
Best of both worlds

The car. We need to replace it. It's a 1999 Clio and it's getting to the point where we're considering replacing it. We'd planned on spending around half that on replacing it.
