Star...OMG. Freaky. We are so the same person. So weird. I wonder what else we have in common.

I know, right?! Our BF''s also seem to be very similar, at least in regards to what they think of our shoes.

Dude, I''ve written a response to this post like 8 times (okay, 3) and my internet connection keeps pooping out me when I press submit.

But, I''m 75% sure it''s gonna be this year, hopefully after the school year ends and next school year begins. In my fantasies. (Well, the fantasies that replaced the fantasies of getting engaged in December).

It''s nice to see that so many people are expecting engagements soon -- so much love in the world!! Girls, make SURE you post the stories; I love the proposal stories...

So i have no idea if he has the ring, or when he''s planning to propose...But i do think that it should happen by the end of 2008, so maybe a christmas proposal???

Dreamgirl, we're only about to reach our 2 year anniversary. Seems like we've been together much longer though, while at the same time, no where near as long. We've been through a lot...

It's so nice to see all the positivity on this thread! Sounds like a lot of the LIW are soon going to be BIW, and I'm excited for every single one of you! And your bling of course!

So don't forget to spend plenty of time writing the experience down for us, and taking tons of bling pics!!

The sad thing is, we are both saving heaps of money right now, but it''s all going towards moving ourselves, our cat and our stuff back from Australia to Canada early next year

Wow Im blown away by how many of you really ''know'' when it''s going to happen. Why are some of you setting a deadline?


For me, I don''t think it will happen for another 3-4 years. But that is just my guess. I really have no clue. But, I want to be surprised.

FrekeChild- Im with you. If I was engaged by this time next year, I would be SHOCKED as well. ha! Cause I know that wont happen.

No deadline for me as such if I told him I wanted to get married tomorrow he would long story short we are in Europe around the time I posted and I know he plans to do it somewhere there

I have no idea! Sometimes I think, "Ooooo I think it''ll happen this year!" Then other times I think, "There is no way we will be engaged by the end of this year!"
SO is very laid back about the whole thing and wants a house first! It''s our 7 year anniversary in April and I was hoping it would happen then but it doesn''t look like it. I tell you something though if we turn up to another one of his work Christmas parties not engaged his colleagues wives are going to kill him!! They''ve been tormenting him about it for the last four years!

Dude, I have NO idea. Could be this fall/winter, or maybe later depending on how all the immigration crap goes and if we can save up any money and assuming we don''t kill each other when we finally live together. So, um, yeah, no real idea. If I had to guess, I''d say probably March 2009 also.

BF and I have been dating 8 months, and he knows I won''t make any serious "life decisions" - moving in with him, getting engaged, etc. - until we have dated through all four seasons. That being said, he''s told me that I will be rocked by summer.

He''s that sure that he wants to keep me around, LOL. I think it will likely be later than summer though, as he is experiencing some serious financial strain and all his extra money goes to paying off bills and mortgages. I''ve offered to put up money or trade in jewelry (diamond studs from my ex) towards a ring when he decides it''s time to look, but he really wants to do this on his own. I am in no rush, having done all the engagement/wedding planning hoopla once before.

I am excited for all you ladies who are expecting a proposal soon! I look forward to hearing your stories.

Well, add me to the list of not yets..

We''ve talked and i know hes planning on buying a ring but as for the actual proposal,id say def not this year. So because im in college and he will be ending his enlistment and starting college for his masters; i dont see it happening just yet. So unless he was sneaky and bought something in a port call

(that thought makes me cringe after learning all i have here!) It wont be till after we have a full on pricescope session and some ring browsing.

Its going to be so exciting to hear everyone else''s stories! I shall just have to live vicariously through you all, hehe.

Actually now he has 2 rings because he decided to get a matching wedding band custom made after getting custom e-ring.


He just got the band yesterday, and I rallied really hard for him to let me see it. Of course he said no. He said I can see it after I get the e-ring, which he also won''t let me see.

UPDATE!

We spent like all day together today (we live 45 min. apart) and had a great day. Then at the end of the day, he did something that irked/upset me a little bit. He could tell I was down, and he said "OK, if I let you see the wedding band from across the room, will that make you happy again?" I immediately perked up and said yes, so he pulled out the ring box with the band, went across the room, and pulled it out. HOLY COW, it sparkled SO much! I was completely and truly blown away. The band is half-eternity with 2 point stones. I wasn''t expecting it to sparkle so much, especially from across the room! As I was drooling over it, he said "and this isn''t even in good lighting! Wait until you see it in the sun."

I asked if he''d seen it from across the room yet, trying to trick him into letting me hold it and see it up close.

Unfortunately for me, he wasn''t fooled.

But yeah. Those little ACA''s are amazing. I''m even more in love now with my set even though I haven''t seen the e-ring yet or the w-band up close.

Needless to say, I was a happy camper after that.

Add me to the not yets

For a while I thought it would definitely be this year... but now I''m not so sure. BF is very laid back about this... doesn''t really have an time lines, and will be starting law school this fall. We''ve been looking and pricing settings and stones very casually, but I''m not expecting anything before 2009.

We actually attended a wedding for some friends who started dating around the time we did (end of 2003). [You know you''re an LIW when you attend a wedding and wonder if the night starts a stir in your BF] When our friends made their way over to our table, the first thing the groom did was ask when we were getting married then he took a not-so-subtle look at my left hand. Hilarious and mortifying all at the same time-- if that''s even possible

I''m getting a little antsy... but I keep reminding myself that once it happens then the craziness really starts-- and after that all the lovely anticipation of engagements, weddings, etc. will be gone. So I''m definitely enjoying my LIW time. PS is certainly helping... reading about such similar feelings makes me feel way more normal than I do when I talk about these things with my friends (who think I''m nuts).

A big THANKS to all you LIW!!

And I''m looking forward to all the engagement stories and pics to come. Congrats in advance... and happy waiting in the meantime!

Living vicariously through other LIW turned BIW isn''t so bad, right stryeyes? I guess we all have to do it.

How exciting Starsparkle!!! How come the wring and not the ering? It looks fabulous from those pics that you posted...the ering does anyway...I''m sure the wring is just as great. Any ideas when (date wise) you guys might get to tie the knot?

How funny edotf! The first Christmas my BF and I shared, I showed my Aunt J. the necklace he got me, she looked at it, and then picked up my left hand, examined it to make sure there wasn''t a ring hiding on it somewhere and then put it down and pretended nothing had happened. WTF?

That gave me something to laugh about for a few days. Still makes me chuckle to this day. We had only been together about 9 months at that point!

It was kind of funny because the other day BF and I were talking about the jewelry he''s bought me (small light blue sapphire bezel set pendant, and a blue topaz pear bracelet-both in white gold) and he told me, "The necklace is "Everyday Lizzie" and the bracelet is "Fancy Lizzie". Sorry, that was random, but it made me laugh thinking about it again...Anyway, he has good taste. And I''m really thinking that I have another piece coming my way in the near future...

I started lurking here a few months ago, but never joined the LIW list for fear I''d jinx myself and stay a LIW for quite a while. But yesterday we went to GOG to see a diamond and walked away with a ring! We were only going to purchase the diamond since the settings they had weren''t for us, until they pulled one that fit the bill for us from their safe. Its very similar to kberly''s MM solitaire setting and we both fell in love with it.

Sorry for the ramble--I haven''t told anyone yet!! You guys are the first!!

So suffice to say...I think the proposal should come soon. I''m patiently waiting now that I know its on its way to me. I''m just hoping it won''t be a few months that he''ll hold onto the ring.

I just want it on my finger, like, now!

Thanks! I am so excited that its pretty much numbed me to a bad Monday at work today! LOL. I sincerely hope he doesn''t hold onto it for too long either. I know originally he wanted to take me to Venice and propose there (yes, he''s a romantic alright) but right now our budget is so tight I know that the proposal will be local. Which has me playing "Anticipaaaatttioooonnnn, anticiiiipppaaaaationn," over and over in my head all day!
