A Visit to The Emerald District in Bogota Colombia

My jeweler just came back from a Columbia ( he is setting my 1.36 carat stone), and he said prices for inferior quality are through the roof. I suppose having a good rapport with the dealers as you seem to have, helps. He was not in Bogota, but I think just vacationing.

Bummer. When we went there was little tourism to Bogata. I was thinking about going back (and returning to the Emerald Center for more deals) but alas that chapter is now closed. That being said I look forward to returning to Colombia!

While most attempts at photographing the two emeralds I bought last weeks are failures, the following give a sense of the colors of the 8.2 mm Chivor round and the 6.5x5.5mm Muzo octagon. The crystal on the octagon is so clear - can’t show it well
