Tomorrow I am supposed to be going down to Waco, TX to audition for the Little Mermaid. I think it is for the national tour, but they don''t really give out many details. Anyway, it was hard just to get the audition and I have been freaking out ever since. I''ve loved this movie since I was a little kid, and my life dream is to be on Broadway.

So imagine how upset I was to wake up this morning with a sore throat. I''m now getting the sniffles. I CAN''T GET SICK before tomorrow morning! I just can''t!!!

I need all of the dust you PSers can give me! I know it''s a long shot anyway, but I would really love to at least say I went in and gave it my best. Thank you!!

Also, have any of you ever auditioned for anything on this big of a scale before? I have done a lot of community theater, but this is Disney we''re talking about! Any advice?

Never auditioned before, but I just wanted to say BREAK A LEG!!!!!

Re: sore throat - my dad has been singing for years and swears by fisherman''s friend throat lozenges when he has a sore throat and needs to sing. Apparently, they don''t gunk up/make your throat sticky, so it''s easier to sing. hth!!

Oh! And DUST DUST DUST DUST DUST!!!!!!!!!

Break a leg, sending lots of dust your way. Good luck. I am thinking hot tea with lemon and a touch of honey? I''d be drinking lots of water, and warm up your voice in a hot shower tomorow? Take all that with a huge grain of salt, no expert, but have had many sore throats in my day. No singer here either...

Let us know how it goes, will have my fingers and toes crossed for you!!!

******dust dust dust********

Buckets of dust for you.

Wow, how exciting!!

Thank you so much!! I was REALLY excited when they called back and said I got an audition. I can''t believe it.

I just really hope I don''t lose my voice overnight..

Well, I started quite late (31), (but took general/classical/legit lessons from Dana Daniels, a former "student of death" of Florence Birdwell''s. I also took belt from Tamara Long at UCO, not long before her untimely death), so unfortunately have not been in anything as anyone of note. One Lyric production as a singing extra.....I admire anyone who lives the theatre life. It isn''t for me. So, lots of dust - and since I''m just up the road a piece, it should be pretty potent ;-) - but no real advice. Unless it would be, if you can choose, pick something that suits your voice, (I''m assuming you have a "Disney" sound), isn''t something the auditioner has heard 12 million times, and break that leg!!!!!! I would so love to hear you sing!!

How did it go??

*DUST DUST DUST*
Try a nasal rinse, it can relieve sore, scratchy throats and nasal congestion.

Yes, how did it go?!?!

Update update!

Sorry!! I have been out of town.. The audition went really well!! I was so nervous for the first song, but by the end I really relaxed. It was definitely intimidating. They said I had the right face for the part, but I am a bit short.

We''ll see. I''m not expecting anything from it, but it was a fun experience!

I''m so glad your audition went well and that you enjoyed yourself. Fingers crossed!

Awesome!!! Glad to hear it went well - what an exciting thing to say you''ve done. Did you tell them you can still rock in out in heels or even stilts?!?!

Haha well that would work, except they wear those tennis shoes with wheels on them so they can "swim" haha!

KSinger, I sang "Part of Your World" from little mermaid, "I Know the Truth" which is from the Elton John and Time Rice musical Aida, and "On My Own" from Les Miserables.

OUpeargirl, I just wanted to say congratulations on the big audition! That is just so cool, no matter what happens with the part. Your choice of audition songs sounds great--"On My Own" has always been one of my favorite songs to sing.

Do they train you on the Heelys (roller shoes) if you get the part? How much training does it take, I wonder? I saw The Little Mermaid on its national tour, and the choreography with the shoes was amazing. It was such an amazing show--I really, really hope you get the part (were you auditioning for Ariel, if you don''t mind me asking?). Lots of mermaid dust coming your way!

Oh there would be loads of practicing I am sure. I wonder how much training it does take... I bet a teenage boy would be better at it than me (they are always running around with those shoes on!)

Yes, I was auditioning for Ariel... My dream come true! I will let you know if I get a call this week!

Sounds like the audition went really well - keeping fingers crossed for a good phone call this week

What an opportunity! Tons of dust for you!

Haha just think... in a few months you could book tickets to see the show and I would be the main character!
