I hope everyone is safe on the road and off. I''m only about 20 minutes from Tysons and it''s not too bad yet. The latest weather report I heard said the heavy snow would start this afternoon with 1-3 inches accumulation, then another 6+ this evening into Sunday morning, then another 1-3 on Sunday. Princess, you''re smart to be heading back north before 4pm, and so are you DL to avoid the Wilson Bridge in this.

As for the Chantilly gem show, I hope to go Saturday or Sunday (too busy at work to play hookey Friday
2.gif
). OFG, the show costs $7.00 per admission, or $6.00 with one of their mailers. I have 6 passes good for 2 admissions each already. Although it will be difficult (or at least more public) without PMs, when my plans finalize I would be happy to coordinate with anyone who wants to meet at the front entrance and pick up a pass.

I think it''s like $6 to get in. No a huge amount, but FREE is always better.
2.gif
Once you go to one show, ask any of the vendor to put you on their mailing list for the upcoming shows, and they will send you a free ticket.

I was supposed to awake to 1-4 inches of snow this morning and all I see is RAIN!!!!
29.gif

They say we will still get it. So maybe things won''t be as bad as they claim.

I keep waiting to see it!!! So far, just rain and a small amount of wet snow with no accummulation here. Maybe I should have driven to Quest after all. I could be shopping in Tysons right now!

Sorry I''ll miss you, Bob. It would be nice to see you again.

I''d also be happy to coordinate with anyone who would like a ticket on Friday.

Ditto DL. Maybe we can set up a get together for the next Chantilly show, which I believe is May 19-21. The DC-area PS crew seems to have grown substantially.

Sorry you missed out on your shopping in Tysons, but you can apply the money you saved to your gem show budget.

ETA: The snow is now coming down pretty heavily here in western Fairfax.

I''m about 5 miles from Dulles airport, in southeastern Loudoun and it''s coming down at a good rate now. I''ll be at the jewelry show on Friday with a friend from work. Last year I picked up a gold bracelet and aquamarine and diamond earrings. Both were great deals. I''ll be looking for a pendant this year. My birthday is a few weeks after Valentines so we always combine into one big gift. My friend gets us into the "Wholesale" part too, but last year I didn''t find anything there. The snow is getting pretty as it''s sticking to all the trees in the woods behind our house.

We''ve got SNOWFLAKES now!!!!! It stopped raining an hour ago and I just saw some flakes.
LET IT SNOW, LET IT SNOW, LET IT SNOW!!!!!!!!(You can tell we never see it here
20.gif
)

Well we were able to book it there and book it back. Luckily, salt trucks were already out on the interstate so traffic really wasn''t a crawl. I got back at 4:30 today. So yay, I''m finally united with my ring! I think Tyler about fell apart when he saw it for the first time. He sat there gaping like a fish
31.gif
and kept opening and closing the ring box.
30.gif
We''re still planning on going to Colvin Run Tavern in two weeks? He still wants to repropose hehe. It looks really nice..anyone been?

tiger007g: I looked at you right in the eye and wondered if it was you, but didn''t have the nerve to run up to you to ask to see your 3ct cushion.
7.gif
(plus I was feeling self-conscious since I hadn''t had time to shower or put on nice makeup
14.gif
) Oh well, I hope the rest of the day was ok for you!

PV,
So happy you got there and back safely. I can''t wait for the pics on Monday, I will hope for a sunny day soon!!! Sounds like Tyler loved the ring huh??

Princess V,

Colvin Run Tavern is GREAT, classy and romantic. Last time I went there my DH and I got the tasting menu. It was wonderful. If you let them know that you will be engaged there, they will do something spectacular for you.

Hermes and Tiffany are there, so you can drool too!

Congrats, I''m glad you LOVE your ring.

Post pics when you can--pretty please.

Glad your trip concluded safely Princess. Colvin Run is exceptional. It''s owned by the same people who have the very highly regarded Kincaids in downtown DC, but I think the atmosphere is even better and the food is excellent. And, as CG notes, Tiffany''s is practically next door. Looking forward to photos of your ring.

Thanks kaleigh, crafftygrrl and GemKlctr!! I think all of the good thoughts made the trip safe
9.gif
hrm...maybe it''ll be sunny tommorow and I can take some pictures in the snow!
5.gif

I''m glad you made it home safe, PV. It is finally snowing here too, but I definitely could have made it to Tysons for shopping and back by the time it started.
29.gif

Thanks for the bright idea, Gemklctr. Since I did not get to shop this weekend, I''ll have more to spend at the show next week! Yay for me!
36.gif
We''ll definitely have to plan a get-together in the spring. The DC group really has grown!

My daughter and I were out shopping in the snow here in Virginia Saturday evening. This morning by 5:00 the snow was high enough to give our huge dog some trouble!

"A developing nor''easter headed up the East Coast on Saturday with a threat of heavy snow, canceling flights and putting road crews on overtime but cheering up skiers in a region spared harsh weather for most of this season.

Blizzard warnings were posted from the New York City area into eastern New England, where up to 15 inches of snow was possible, and a winter storm warning was issued for most of New Jersey, the National Weather Service said. Heavy snow warnings were in effect from eastern Kentucky to New England.

...

Snow began falling Saturday afternoon in eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey, slowing traffic and putting road crews into action.

...

In Connecticut, forecasters predicted up to 12 inches of snow, with the highest totals along the shoreline. Snow was expected to start Saturday evening and become heavy after midnight before tapering off Sunday afternoon."

Tell me how much snow you have!!!

Well we woke to a bunch of snow today in Berks County Pa. It sure is pretty but I was really happy with the way the winter was going (no snow!) We live way up in the woods with a very steap driveway so this basically kills my plans till the plow guy shows up!
This is a pic of the chicken coup, guess they aren''t coming out today!!!

This pic gives you a good idea of how much we got so far. I hope everyone is safe and sound at home this AM.

And this is a pic of DH''s new car he got Friday, he wn''t be driving this anytime soon!!!!

Great pics, Mingagreen. I posted a few in a new thread myself. We are in MD, and it''s still coming down -- not as much as PA though. It feels like good snowman-building snow, so as soon as it stops coming down and blowing around, we''ll be out there with the kids.
9.gif

I can''t wait for the next get together!!! Hopefully I''ll have my wedding band by then.

Snow!

My parents in coastal Connecticut said they do not remember ever having had this much snow. They think they have two feet (and it is still snowing). There was a blizzard in around 1978. I, personally, doubt whether there can be as much snow there now as there was then! I''d say we have at least 12 inches, but possibly an inch or two more than that where we are in Virginia. The snow has stopped here, or at least slowed to the point where it makes no difference anymore.

AGBF, I think your parents are right! We honestly are close to two feet and it is definitely still coming down hard

. I am sooooo not looking forward to digging my car out

Here is a pic of our deck. Seriously, there is about two feet of snow on our table

Hi all! A few more questions about the Chantilly gem show: What are the hours? Do they have much selection of pretty engagement ring settings?

The hours are; Fri 12-6pm; Sat 10am-6pm; Sun 11am-5pm. They have a substantial selection of virtually all types of jewelry, including semi-mounts for engagement rings, rhrs, etc. You may want to solicit PSers concerning which vendors they have had good experiences with. If nothing else, you will be able to see in person quite a variety of potential settings along with some things you will never see in a traditional B&M.

Hi Old-Fashioned Girl,
I''ll start a new thread so the info is there for anyone who would like to go.

Did you see NY?!?!?!?!?!

Now WHY couldn't WE have received that kinda snow here so I could have a day off from work
2.gif
hahahahahah

At the place where I live, I put my wiperblades up the day that the storm was supposed to happen. The neighbors looked at me like I was insane (cuz all that was coming down was rainy sleet...a few flakes every so often).....
Well...by evening it was coming down pretty good....and the next morning....I looked out the window and laughed at all the people out there trying to wipe snow off their cars and scrape windows that their wipers were stuck to =P HA!

That''s sooooo funny.

Well, here''s a couple of good ones:

* My husband had his set of keys in the pocket of his ski jacket yesterday when he went out to shovel the driveway, walkways, and patio. He managed to lose them in the snow!!!!!!!!! We''ve looked, but I guess we''ll have to wait until all the snow melts before they turn up. They''ve got to be out there somewhere.
20.gif

* My friend''s son decided to help his daddy by scraping the snow off the car using an ice scraper! By the time the dad saw what he was doing, it was too late. There is now an interesting design etched in the hood of the car.

That happened to me several years ago with my wedding ring (flew off when I removed my gloves). I had to wait 6 weeks for a thaw and then acquire a metal detector to locate it in the front bushes.
