After looking around quite a bit -- see other thread here:

I really like this diamond and I''m about ready to buy.

I called on it and they said it is very clean to the eye and you really need 10X magnification to see any inclusions. My question is would you have any regrets buying this diamond? Will it have great brilliance, fire, and Scintillation?

Thanks!

It should be very nice. lumpkin just bought a diamond almost identical to yours on every spec, and she loves it! Very bright and firey, I say go for it!

Fantastic size too.

Yay!

I'm excited that it is eye-clean!!! I think just under 1.5 is the very best buy for your money! And it's AGS0, too!!!

I ordered it!!!

Now to just take my time and pick out a setting.

Also, do you feel it wise to send out for appraisal? If so, should I use Mr. Atlas? Also what does the appraisal usually cost?

Thanks Again for everyones help!!!

As for an appraisal, I would say it depends. If you get a thorough one from JA, then I would only make an appt. to make sure you got what you bought. Mistakes are made sometimes, so I personally think it's a prudent thing to do that much. If he doesn't include a detailed one, you might get one for insurance purposes. The more detailed the appraisal, the better your chance of replacing with exactly what you bought, should something unfortunate occur.

Prices run roughly from 100-200, depending on how in depth they are.

And congrats!!

Thanks! I hope she loves it when I propose.

I could probably just get it looked at locally to be sure I got what I ordered, correct?

Thanks again!

If you get JA to set the stone, it may come with an insurance valuation. I have never needed more than the insurance valuation and a copy of the GIA or AGS certificate to add to insurance. As Ellen said, you might want to go to an appraiser (and this can be a gemologist at a jewelry store if you don''t have an independent appraiser nearby) and pay for them just to verify the stone matches the certificate (maybe $25?), but you really don''t need a full extra appraisal if it comes with an insurance valuation report, which I think it does.

If you get the stone and have a local jeweler set it, then they can do the insurance valuation for you. You''ll probably have to provide them with a copy of the certificate.

I would try to find a setting at JA, though, just to make life easier!

Yes this is what I did. I did it to make my life easier and it probably shortened the time it took to get the stone into a setting.

CAUTION: JA does give you an appraisal but it is very minimal. In the insurance thread I started PSers pointed out that a DETAILED appraisal is needed to get your stone/ring replaced with one of the same quality.

I think that might be warranted on a very expensive, branded, or unusual stone. But the GIA or AGS cert really has most of the needed info on it and the insurance valuation adds the setting description and gives a value. I don''t really think Steve would need to get an extra appraisal. He has an AGS0 cert and that means they''d have to replace it with another AGS0 stone (unless they want him to refuse the offer!), and that is a pretty good safety net!

As far as settings go. I just don''t know what to go with yet. There was one at JA that I liked, but there''s others I like elsewhere. I figure I''ll take my time.

As far as insurance goes, forgive me for my ignorance as I''m a man and don''t really own any expensive jewels, do I get a separate policy for that or just add it to the home owners insurance? Also, right now what I really want to do is just verify that no mistake was made and the stone is what I paid for.

Thanks again for all the help!
