I have to admit, for the past 2 days I''ve been nursing a nasty cold that I''m pretty sure I caught from caring for the sick kiddos at the Dome...all the handwashing and hand sanitizer I slathered all over myself while I was there didn''t seem to stop it. But once I''m all better it''s not gonna stop me from going back!!!
My husband and are artists with no medical training, so in the midwest there''s not much we can do except donate money. And, being artists... we don''t have much money.
BUT the school we both graduated from had a hurricane relief art sale this weekend where all proceeds went to the red cross AND was matched by the local power and light company. So this weekend we were able to donate $1500! Much more than we could ever come up with otherwise.
I wanted to post this to let people know there may be other ways to help.
And Thank You from us to the volunteers Houston for helping so far!
Well I went againg today, for work. My company has this giant 18-wheeler BBQ pit trailer. We cooked sausages and served them with hot dog buns. The food was the "guests" as well as the various volunteers, red cross, police, military personnel, national guard, etc....Our shift went through 500 lbs of sausage, and they were bringing in more for the afternoon shift to cook. My company is doing that everyday this week...we got so many thank yous.
All of you who are able to volunteer, and do, are an inspiration to us all. I am so proud to think that the generousness of spirit that it takes to give of oneself is alive and well in this country. God bless you.
"HOUSTON, Sept. 20 - Hurricane Rita prompted a mandatory evacuation of this city's public shelters on Tuesday, emptying them as quickly as they had filled just three weeks ago and sending still-dazed survivors of Hurricane Katrina packing off to Arkansas, to the bus terminal, to the airport and, for some who considered themselves lucky, to paid and furnished apartments here in the Houston area."
