Advice Needed: Compromise Carat or Colour?

@MakiMan are you open to considering non-WF branded cuts? I bet our PS Rock Hunters Extraordinaire could find you some more (well cut) options in your budget and size range from other vendors :)

Hi, sure, haven't really gotten into that, but I would be interested, thank you!

Calling @Kimn @DejaWiz et al to help find some other stones in the parameters from different vendors?

I did find a few, but they're not super ideal cut, and if there's any chance you'll upgrade in the future, the 0.90 from Whiteflash is still a better bet.

Found some potential candidates at FD.
They can bring in a couple/few at a time and provide lots of pictures, videos, H&A scope, and ASET images.
They will also customize any setting for you, including increasing the width to the 2.2mm mark that you're desiring.

Update:

The Whiteflash salesperson suggested this alternative:

1.067 I SI1 $6,049

So now the final decision is between that one and

0.907 H Si1 $6,004.

The bias is toward the larger one, but I am wary of how much stone quality (to the degree that is noticeable) I might be sacrificing. Seems that getting 0.15 extra carats for a drop in color in color is a good deal, but is that the whole picture?

Thanks again for all the support. I promise to post pictures.

Your call. Getting to the 1ct mark is always a bonus for most buyers.

Here are the side profile shots so that you can compare color, but they will both face up quite white. You can also request side by side comparison picture and videos from WF.

The size difference will be more readily noticeable than the color difference IMO.

That's a photo of a 1.19ct GIA G in the ring vs. a 1.6ct high J loose. That G was colorless like water. I ended up buying that G instead of the larger J. If a person is at all color sensitive, the I range is going to look more ivory white than bright white. The J will look pale yellow. I have diamonds from D down to M in modern RB cut and truthfully, I like them all. There have been a few people on here who bought a good sized L color ideal RB or asscher cut and were happy. L and M will always be in the pale yellow range in any lighting, though.

My caution about tint is that it might kind of "intensify" with time after you've trained yourself to see it. This center in this halo ring is a .8something 6.3mm OEC that was graded I color by an appraiser, and it also has strong blue fluorescence. I honestly owned it from 1993 and never ever noticed the ivory tint in the stone until after I'd been on PS a year or so in 2005 and started to scrutinize my diamonds much more closely. Once seen, that ivory color can't be unseen, haha, but it doesn't bother me. Nor does it look buttery or yellow. It's just a little creamy. You can see that creaminess in some of these pics. But anyplace there is UV light, this faces up bright white. The tint is still there in the side view, though.

Great choice! Couldn't go wrong either way, but it was a noticeable size difference and I bet she'll love it! Can't wait to see it! Please come back to post updates and hand shots when the big day happens! :)

Partial Update:

So the diamond arrived fast (I live in Canada, I wired transferred Friday end-of-day, and they got the confirmation Monday and shipped it end-of-day. I think Fedex called me to pay customs/tax (13%, same as sales tax) on Wednesday, and Thursday I picked up the ring. It is all that was expected, nice packaging. I really appreciate the arrow pattern, I don't know if it strictly makes the diamond shine more but I perceive it as higher quality. Every picture actually looks better in real life but it was super hard to focus the pictures on my phone's camera. I could not notice much of a yellow tint despite being an I color. without the magnification, the diamond looks flawless to me.

I went to the jewelers to order the setting but they would actually ship it to NoahCarver and it would take 6-8 weeks, which completely negates my intentions of proposing during a Christmas trip. I will look into other jewelers, preferably some that do the work themselves.

If anybody can recommend a good reputable jeweler in southwest Ontario (London - Toronto corridor) that would be greatly appreciated.

Congrats-the stone looks gorgeous!

Here is a thread on Toronto area jewelers. Hopefully, one of them can help you.

Congrats - looks lovely!

I haven't worked with them, but I stalk both Atelier Dacko and Alexis Gallery on social media and both have some very beautiful work.

Stunning choice!
