Advice on this diamond

Hi all,

We have been pitched this diamond. It is very sparkly and pretty. It is .86, but looks like 1 ct. My biggest concerns are that it is cut too shallow (though it is very sparkly), and that the table is too big - it just looked big? The stone is slightly rectangle instead of square, but subtle enough that I think the setting will mask that very well. In all, I'm not sure what my hesitation is, but I definitely have hesitation. Any advice on what I might be missing? We have a small budget, so I understand that we have to make some sacrifices. I just want to make sure I'm not missing some big red flag or something. Thank you!

rule of thumb is you want the table to be smaller than the depth. Also, it's hard for us to give advice on a fancy cut without pictures...

Thank you! Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures. I should have mentioned - the seller states that he thinks he could get 5000-6000 wholesale for this stone. Does that sound reasonable, at least from the info that you have so far?

If you are looking for the best for your budget, I'm sorry but you are not doing a good job.

You do NOT need E IF. NO ONE needs that.

You will NOT be able to tell an E IF from an F VS1. Or even a G VS2 that is eyeclean.

Seriously. You are wasting money on color and clarity. And you could go up in size.

Also E IF stones are very hard to vendors to move, mostly because most educated buyers wouldn't waste their time/money on them. So I'm not surprised he is trying to sell you on it.

Color and clarity are not what make a diamond shine. It's cut.

And we can't tell you ANYTHING from the numbers on fancies. NO one can. We need pictures of the stone and preferrably an ASET image.

You only buy fancies by faceting and light return. Not numbers.
