Great forum and very informative to a shlub like me. Looking to get an anniversary diamond. I found 2 stones at a consignment shop. I liked the first (5.25, round, L, SI1) but the wife liked the second (see below). What price should I offer? I trust the store and owner.

GIA
round brilliant
3.01 carat, I, SI2
cut grade: very good
polish: exc
symm: exc
fluor: none
table: 59%
depth 63%

I think I found a similar stone, pricescope, ~32,000.

thanks.

I'd look up more stones with similar specs and go from there. What are the crown and pavilion angles? The cut may not be stellar.

63 D, 59 T...my prediction is that the cut is sort of

so, not too good, huh?

if you can get the GIA report number, you can plug it in at www.gia.edu/reportcheck for the angles. or post the GIA number here. Or ask the retailer for the crown and pavilion angles, as well as the girdle thickness, and the diameter.

About similar stones:

similar-ish stones go for 24K to 28K on the PS database.

Smart to keep looking - that one was cut to hit the ''magic'' 3 carat mark. A lower weight stone cut well actually would appear larger to the eye.

Thritto - steep deep angles so best to keep looking. We would be pleased to help you look if you wanted to buy online.
