hi everyone. as i said i returned the zales ring. the saleswoman almost seemed like she expected to see me coming back to return it. i felt obligated to give her an explanation so i told her i had just found a better deal and she said she was not suprised.
so I went to see Yukotiel (sp?) at ID Jewlery today. We looked at some EGL and I was satisfied but not thrilled. He really went above and beyond to help me get into a GIA. He stayed within the excellent cut and si1 minimums but found a diamond with a slightly lower color grade in order to fit my budget. I had to come down a bit from my G color expectations to a J. I wasnt thrilled about making this concession but he took a look into a bunch of different diamonds for me and found one with the proper flouresence and other qualities that from what he told and what i've read elsewhere assist the color a bit.
At the end of the day I got a 1.57 carat (7.58mm x 7.56mm), GIA, excellent cut, si1, j color, medium flouresence round diamond in a 6 prong setting for 10% less than I was going to pay Zales for a 1.64 carat (7.4mmx 7.38mm) GSL, very good cut, I1, H color in a thinner 4 prong.
The diamond from ID is GIA, looks 10X better, and is slightly bigger and for only 90% of the cost of Zales GSL.
I cannot thank you all enough for the advice. I was a hair away from settling for a smaller, lower quality stone which I would have regretted for sure.
I think we made the correct concessions to fit my budget while still greatly exceeding my personal eye test. Im very glad I took the time to come speak to you all. Thanks again and best wishes. She better say yes after all of this!!! haha
