Something in the back of my head tells me 23rd St contracts work out to Singlestone - but don''t quote me because I can''t find where I read it. Definitely on PS though.

The comment about single cuts is not un-common. I got the same thing from a custom jeweller. Apparently there is a "repair grade" single cut melee out there that''s as cheap as chips. I think the single cuts that Leon must use are in a whole different league.

I read that on PS too, but I don''t think that''s the case. There is a setting (the one Diana posted) that looks as if it is sold by both vendors. Hence why people might have said 23rd is selling Singlestone''s product.

FYI...I asked the salesgirl about the similarity of the settings at Singlestone vs 23rd Street and she confirmed that SS does make some of their rings. She said the particular ring I posted was not made by SS however, it''s made by another craftsman located within 30 minutes of them.

I got the impression that 23rd Street doesn''t do a lot of work "in house".

I was very impressed with Ari at Singlestone though, I''d love to work with him someday soon!

For reference....I got a quote on this one from 23rd Street - $6700! It''s a beautiful design, but it just wasn''t worth that much to me.

They weren''t able to tell me the carat weight of the melee, she said no one had ever asked her for that before.....I also asked if the stones would be single cut and she said, ''oh no, we only use full cut diamonds'' - I told her that I''d heard single cuts give more sparkle when they''re that small and she assured me that ''no, it''s the opposite, they sparkle less''.

Of course I may have had a different experience with a different sales rep but I was left feeling underwhelmed. I can''t knock the settings though, they are quite beautiful but not necesarily that unique IMHO.
Gahhhh... that is a stunning setting, but crude that''s a lot of money. Too much for that setting. Unless that sucker is loupe perfect and the melee is all D VVS and well... you get the point.

It''s absolutely gorgeous. I love the colour.

What is going on with this?? Any progress?? Have I missed a "Welcome My New Pad Baby" thread somehow????

Yup...still waiting as she has not decided on anything yet.

Ugh sorry ladies. It won''t be for awhile. We leave for vacation this week and then hopefully I will finally get to Singlestone and 23rd street again. I haven''t made the trip because work has been busy and it''s hard to actually get out of the office on a weekday to do some field work and stop by these places enroute.

Trust me, I will update when anything happens. I haven''t even looked at the stone in a few months as it''s hidden away....

Well, thought I''d give an update. This project is underway.

With Andrey''s and Ali''s generous gift, I think Leon is the way to go. I only got a quote for the ring below from 23rd street (the one on the right with the round) and it was $5000 - and that was for ROSE GOLD, not platinum! I think that scared me and just deterred me from putting this project in the forefront of my priorities, since I really didn''t want to spend that much on the setting. I had been meaning to go to Singlestone again for AGES but haven''t made the effort to go downtown (because I hate going there.)

Anyhoo, I just spoke with Leon. So far, I like working with him. He''s pretty amusing and being that I''m pretty low key, I am hoping this will be a good match. And he''s reasonable. With the 10K gift applied, it seems actually affordable. A steal actually, compared to 23rd street. And he obviously understands design much better than the salesperson I talked to at 23rd.

I showed him the pic below, and he wasn''t too much of a fan. The reasons:

- he likes the ring with the round. He thinks with an oval, it will ruin the flow and look like a stone with the shank stuck on it.
- he said he would reserve judgment on doing anything in rose gold as he thinks from the the pics I sent him of the color, it will clash and detract. He did say he would put the stone against rose gold and let me know his final thoughts. He says there''s a chance that a combination like that would look spectacular, but he thinks the stone is too valuable to take that kind of chance, when more than likely he thinks it will look bad.

Having that I did compared the stone to rose gold myself, I do see what what he means. I was also concerned about the oval in a bezel with that shank as well, so he did hit on my two concerns exactly.

So his suggestion?

If I wanted extra protection, he said thin halo. But his FIRST choice was delicate half moons and bullets.

Hm, does that design element sound FAMILIAR? Think I should send him an inspiration pic of *that* ring?
3.gif

Obviously I do love the idea. He recommends it done in platinum and thinks it will be a classic piece for the ages. That resonates with me because while I will give Amelia the right to change the setting, my hope is that she will love the ring as is.

Oh, and he joked that I must talk a lot on PS to get the gift, and asked if I am going to say anything about him. I said, "yup, when this is all over, I certainly will!"

It is about time you get that beautiful Pad set!!! I LOVE Leons idea T-Gal. I love the thin bezel around the pad to protect the stone. We DO NOT want anything to happen to that pad, no chips, no knicks, no nuttin!!!!!!

I am sure Miss Amelia will love the setting and always treasure it from her mama. That is, if she will be able to pry it off of YOUR finger, ha ha ha.

Oh Boy, I can''t wait to see your finished ring. It is going to be SPECTACULAR!!!

LOL Linda...that''s great, except Leon''s idea is NOT the thin bezel to protect the stone. That was the 5K ring from 23rd street.

Duh on me, ha ha ha. That is what I meant to say "halo" and it came out bezel. See what happens when you get to my age, ha ha ha ha ha.

Okay ... just so I understand ... he''s gonna look at the stone & person before the final, final decision but it''s looking like the Amelia will be: prong set with small half moon side stones tapering down to bullets (scale-appropriate five stone design) in Platinum unless he reconsiders about the color match with Rose Gold after first hand inspection. Right??????

LOVE IT! Why the heck not! If you''re dying, dying, dying for the "protection" of a delicate halo seems like he''d go that way also. So thinksies on it. But ... YAY!!!!!

I can kind of see what he means with the Oval in your 23rd street inspiration setting. The scale of the side frenchies would have to be very very very much scaled down to get the look right. And at that point its a real compromise about what you might have liked about it. His way you get Classic, Bling, and ... your own version of a Pscope Top Ten Fave Ring of All Time.

I am thrilled that you are getting your Amelia ring underway! It will be gorgeous! The mix of a beautiful pad and a Leon setting! Can''t wait to see it finished!!!

You would be correct Deco. He also may look at it and have another idea altogether. I don''t mind a halo either, but I''m sort of sick of them through PS and think the five stone might do nicely for long term happiness. Plus it fits my (non) style more than a halo, which I see as fancy. But he did say THIN halo, which I kind of like. The 5 stone, though, would have no pave, and that appeals to me.

I don''t think it''s going to be a ring that is novel idea of PS. I like the idea of classic, the more he talked about it.

btw, he said the ring was was interested in is an antique reproduction and based on what he could see, my pad is not really an antique style stone. I had to agree with him there too...

Whichever design you decide on the ring will be STUNNING. I can''t wait to see your photos!! HINT HINT

Wow so pretty!!!!!!!!!!!!!

COOL BEANS. And yes

send him pics of the ring that shall not be named.

So exciting! I can''t wait until it''s set and we can drool over pics!!

So glad your PS gift has enticed you over to Leon! I must admit I''ve always seen him in the future of your pad

He is definitely going to do well by your stone. People always give him flak for being an artiste, but the man knows what he is talking about. Can''t wait to hear what his opinion is about the pad''s setting.

I got off my a** and sent him the stone today. We are off to the races!

Woot!

About f$%3^ng time! How long''s the turn around going to be?

YAY YAY YAY YAY YAY. Can''t wait to see your BEAUTIFUL pad set T-gal. I know Leon will do a fantastic job.

You will have a ring that you will treasure always (or Miss Amelia will)

I can't wait to see what your ring ends up looking like. I love your stone and it sounds like the setting you and Leon have in mind will be perfect!

Oooo I missed all the discussion about going w/Leon! How gorgeous this ring will be, and I''m super excited for you!

Um, what is the ring that shall not be named? I was a bit lost on that part.

AWESOME. Your *ss has been begging you to get off of it ... that stone wasn''t gonna hatch & the culet is pointy and .. ah, bad joke. Exciting news & can''t wait to see the finished product!! YAY.
