Sorry in advance for the lengthy background/post!!
I recently upgraded my stone from 1.5 ct H SI2 Very Good cut to 2.07 ct I VS2 ACA.
I have been torn on how to set this stone as I’m hoping I will not have to go through this process again. My original setting was a classic solitaire (hubby picked everything on his own) which I was very happy with for 10 years, and then the head broke off. I then found Pricescope (the obsession kicked in) and I ultimately decided on the round Emilya for my re-set. I originally chose the cushion halo but at that time so may gorgeous round Emilya's were posted and I switched. I loved my Emilya although I think it was never 100% complete for me because I didn’t wear a band with it, and I missed that look. I also loved my original eternity band but it was way too big to pair with the Emilya (so I wore that on my right hand). And I felt like my choices were so limited with bands due to the very delicate nature of the pave. Then unfortunately end of 2014 I lost both my ER and WB:( Which brought me to my upgrade (10 year anniversary) and indecisiveness on how to set. I went from thinking I would definitely go with a classic solitaire again since I was able to upgrade the stone a bit. Then doubt sunk in on whether I would get bored, or the finger coverage wouldn’t be enough since I had the halo before. I started going back and forth on delicate halo with plain shank, split shank solitaire with pave, and 3 stone with pears. There are SO many beautiful inspirations on PS it literally drives you crazy.

I “think” I have finally made the decision to go with a very delicate cushion halo (probably two row pave) with plain shank. My diamond is on it’s way to Victor Canera! I almost went to ERD/BE to try different things but I just never found the time to make the drive unfortunately. So once I decided on delicate halo I decided to go back to VC.

There are a few elements I am unsure of and would love any opinions as I am got good at visualizing something I don’t have a complete picture of. I have been talking with Paige (VC’s assistant) who has been great. She was able to provide a picture of the Emilya with plain shank, although it is with a color treated diamond. Here are my thoughts/questions.

Positive or almost positive on:
1. Very delicate, rounded, subtle cushion halo (not anything that resembles square). I will attach inspiration pics.
2. Plain shank (my guess will be around 1.9 mm again). My thought with plain shank is diamond will pop, give me somewhat feel of solitaire, and hopefully will open up my band options a little bit??
3. Plain donut (do not want to have any issues with wearing a band)

What I need to figure out:
1. Full cut or single cut melee? What would be best to let the center stone “pop” and fit with the “I” color center (D. Atlas appraised borderline H/I).
2. Standard shank or cathedral? Lately I have been drawn to the elegant cathedral shoulders but I’m worried if I’m doing a plain shank it may not look right). Can’t picture it.
3. Stems/Gallery? Do the standard Emilya? Or some other variation? Again, not good at visualizing other possibilities. Also should I include pave on the stems or leave plain since I will have the plain shank and donut. Paige seemed to think visually either way would be find, just a preference. And the reduced cost to exclude pave from the stems is minimal so that isn’t a big factor.

Thanks for reading if you have gotten this far  I know there are many of you that can visualize these details in your sleep!

Very soft, rounded halo shape (I would prefer a more delicate halo though)

1. You get different opinions on full vs single cut. I've seen it go both ways on whether full or single better integrates with the center stone. Since the shank is plain I would go with whatever best integrates into the center so it will look bigger on the finger. Seems kinda awkward to have the melees contrast with the center and have a plain shank. Might look like it floats awkwardly on the finger, I dunno. If you wanted the center to contrast from the melees then I'd say get melees on the shank so it might pull them away from the center.

2. Personal preference though I prefer cathedral.

3. I'd go without melees on the stems or gallery since you have a plain shank.

Maybe mine will help you envision the look. Plain shank with pave on the struts and donut. The cushion halo is very delicate with .05 melee.

OMG I love. Thank you so much for posting! How long have you had it and do you still love?
I would love to see a profile shot if you have one. And what size is center stone and finger size for perspective?

Do you wear with a band?

Thanks!!

Re: Almost there with setting decision. Some suggestions ple

My stone is smaller than yours, 1.29ct G SI1. I wear a size 5.5 to fit over my knobby knuckles. I usually wear it as a RHR alone. Bands seem to detract from it and with the pave on the donut I think it's better worn alone. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Whoa, sorry my pics are so gigantic!! Don't know how that happened!

So pretty Bonfire! Thanks again for posting the pics.
Who made your ring?

Re: Almost there with setting decision. Some suggestions ple

It's the Mimi setting from LAD fabricated by Caysie's bench. Very well done pave and NO gaps . No small feat with a round in a cushion halo. Be sure to post lots of pictures of your reset!

Did you see the ring on David Klass FB page from May 18? Solid shank halo with cathedral sides. Love that one!

No, I'm not on Facebook.
I just checked it out, very pretty. Thanks:)

Not sure if this is helpful because I know you're interested in a cushion halo and mine is round, but I went thru a very similar decision process so thought I'd share. I also LOVE plain shank halos - to me it's kind of a dressed up solitaire (which is the setting I thought I always wanted, until I tried it on). I loved the original Emilya as well, but opted for no diamonds on the donut, stems or shank for wear-ability. Otherwise I didn't change anything. Although I haven't chosen a wedding band yet, I've tried on quite a few and I think there's a lot more options with the plain shank. Just haven't made up my mind! (And wedding isn't until next year) Very happy with how it turned out :) Good luck!!

Hi! It is very helpful so thank you!! I think this is the first plain shank Emilya I have seen and I must say I think it is lovely  It looks beautiful on your hands. Do you have a thread?? And I'm with you, wanting a dressed up solitaire. I'm glad to hear you feel like there are more options with the plain shank as well.

And I'm always torn on round vs. cushion halo. The last time I switched my mind to round last minute so I'm thinking this time maybe I will go with what my original choice was going to be. I'm hoping for a very soft cushion shape.
Thanks again!

Re: Almost there with setting decision. Some suggestions ple

Thanks! :) I think it may be one of (if not the only) plain shank Emilya! Victor didn't have any pictures of one when my fiancé originally inquired, so we took a chance (although I was pretty confident since I loved the version I saw on PS and loved plain shank halos in general that I had seen in person). The pictures really don't do it justice, it's just so delicate. I don't have a thread on it, we are actually pretty newly engaged :). For reference though, my finger is a size 5.5 and the center stone is 2.2ct.

I love the cushion shape as well (the one posted in this thread is sooo gorgeous!) Tough decision, but I don't think you can go wrong! Since you've already done round, seems like cushion makes sense to me :)

Congratulations on your engagement!!I think you should certainly do a SMTB of this pretty:) Well chosen and good for you for taking the chance, it looks so clean and elegant. Are you leaning towards a diamond band or plain? I think both would look lovely.

Re: Almost there with setting decision. Some suggestions ple

I really like how a thin diamond band looks, so leaning towards that. I have seen some of Victor's engraved bands on here which I adore (so I may have to try to find something similar in a store to try the look). I also like the look of some of the more vintage looking bands - the marquise and dot style that a lot of people seem to have. Or some of the SingleStone bands are gorgeous too - hoping to be near a store at some point to try on. Finding PS has been a blessing and a curse!

Re: Almost there with setting decision. Some suggestions ple

I couldn't agree more about finding PS being a blessing and a curse!! I used to love the more blingy bands with ER but lately I have definitely been loving the thinner pave band look (esp. with a delicate halo). Once I get my ring done I will need to do some window shopping myself. Enjoy your engagement.

Isn't that the TRUTH! LOL! I can't wait to see what you decide on...I'm still considering a reset on mine and been looking at different options with side stones. Currently infatuated with the 3 stone pear or 3 stone tapered baguette! I plan to visit Tiffany to see theirs...that might help! Keep us posted!

I think I'm getting there with finalizing things with Victor:) 3 stone with pears was a top contender for me as well...another classic. If you haven't' already I would confirm Tiffany's has those particular styles in their store. When I visited they didn't have a 3 stone with pear to show me. I tried 3 or 4 places and no luck.
