I contacted Jeff before he went to Tuscon to ask him to find me a pair of sapphires for earrings. Even though I know color is the most important factor for colored stones, I just knew I would want great color, cut, and clarity on a colored stone. And I haven''t seen any that were cut better than Jeff''s. I mentioned as a side note that I eventually wanted one or two kinds of sapphires for rings. So when he returned from Tuscon, he let me know that he had not found my stones for studs, but he had found a sapphire I might be interested in. So I told him to please cut it for me and let me have first option on it. It is absolutely gorgeous! I have never seen a sapphire sparkle like this one does! I have a few more days to decide whether to keep it or not. My indecision has to do with the thought that I really want to make a three-stone ring, and this one is really perfect for a halo. I can''t just collect sapphires, unfortunately, so I need to be sure I get what I really want most. But I wanted to show you what an artist and a craftsman Jeff White is, yet again. The stone has violet undertones and I almost wonder if it has a slight color change. It can look more blue in some light and more purple in other. It also throws off beautiful little purple and pink flashes in incandescent light.
First is the stone as he bought it in native cut (it is from Sri Lanka - Ceylon).
