An advice column classic - for those who *really* want to drop their jaw!

I think this story is sketchy.
I find it very hard to believe that a 13 year old girl would take it upon herself to smash out the neighbor's car window.
You would think that she would've run to her mother the nurse first.

I posted above asking people just to take it at face value so we could discuss the situation as it was described. I agree, none of this can be verified absolutely, so - again - let's just take it at face value and assume, in this instance, people are telling the truth, given that it can't be disproved any more than it can be proved.

As for not believing a 13 year old would smash a window - as someone who has spent a fair bit of time in the dog show sector, I know kids younger than 13 who would smash a window for a dog - much less a baby. A 13 year old smashing a window to help a baby in distress might be unusual, but doesn't fall into the area of incomprehensible from my own experience. For what it's worth, I was *exactly* the sort of kid who would have been willing and able to have smashed a car window for a baby in this situation. So that's the easiest part of it for me to believe.

Slate IMHO has the most controversial and unbelievable stories that bring focus to some of the worst traits in humanity. I never take this site seriously and consider many of the stories rage bait.

I think of Slate as an entertainment site tbh... good for a little distraction. It used to be part of the Washington Post i think way back in the day iirc

But to MrsB's point, if we take the story at face value, then the advice was pretty good i think. Counseling for him, couples' counseling for them, and the wife would need to take a hard look at if this is the person she wants to partner with in life. And that 13 year old would deserve an apology and some kind of recognition for being a quick thinking hero.
