Angry at Neiman Marcus

Looking for opinions on this. I purchased an outfit from Neiman Marcus for my son''s wedding and paid by check. When I was doing my yearly free credit report, I saw that they had run a credit check on me. I would expect them to have run it through Telecheck or some system like that, but putting a ding on my credit, without my approval, seems out of line to me. I called Neiman''s corporate office to complain. They had no response except that they were pleased to tell me I could write a check for up to a certain dollar amount in the future. Thanks, but no thanks. I am really ticked about this. What do you guys think?

If that''s their policy, it should be disclosed. Most people wouldn''t write a check in that situation, they''d just charge it and pay the bill. I''d be po''ed too.

This happened to me and I contacted the credit companies (TRW, Experion and Equifax) and told them I did not authorize it. They immediately removed the inquiry from my report. You may also be able to do it online.

They're pretty big on CS. Not only would I contest it with the credit bureaus, I'd file a complaint with the BBB. You might get a better response from them if they're contacted by the BBB.

well NM only accepts check, cash, NM Card or Amex.

so you basically can't just charge it to a Visa or MC like most people would....since not everyone has an Amex.

i actually wanted to buy something there recently and didn't have my checkbook on me and I don't use Amex, so I had to open a NM account!!! i was pretty bitter because that is the last thing i wanted to do as we don't carry dept cards, but obviously i wanted what i was buying pretty badly.

they probably don't care if you are mad about the credit check. they seem to think it's a privelege to shop there.

Yep, I won''t even go in because of this. I have no patience for a snobby attitude/atmosphere. Nordie''s and Saks aren''t like this...I guess they aren''t *high end* enough!

My friend who worked there ages and ages ago always refers to them as Needless Markups. I think it's crazy that they only accept check, NM card, or Amex. I never shop there.
