Okay, I think I need to try on rings. I am 5.5, and thought that anything under 1.5 was too small for my fingers. I guess my perference is for the the ring to be substantial. Thanks ladies. I really appreciate your honest opinions. I guess it is just preference. I worry about trying on some stones you know, because maybe they are just bad cut stones and not true to size, so I am going to try Michael C. Fina and maybe Tiffany's, since I hope they would have true to size stones. Yeah, in NYC most folks were bigger stuff, but I would hope I don't get dragged into that, because you will never ring, so I just want to be happy with it. I told BF this, and all he said. See, that is why you can't be the process. Too indecisive and contradictory. Me???

Something else to think about is that different shapes require different carat size to look the same. Like ive heard (i think ive seen it illustrated on here) that if you take a 1ct princess and put it next to a 1ct RB, the RB will look bigger. Okay, i tried to look and this was all i could come up with...

1.4 carat round (Tolkovsky) should have about 7.2 mm in diameter.

Well cut Princess of 1.5 carat should be about 6.4x6.4 mm, diagonal should be 9.05 mm.

Let's compare areas:

1.4 crt round (7.2mm in dia): 40.71 sq. mm
1.5 crt princess (6.4x6.4): 40.96 sq. mm

Therefore they have almost the same areas.

So i dont think you wanting a 1.5 is outrageous since you are looking at a cushion which is kinda a square. If you wanted a RB, youd probably be looking at 1.25ish stones... Dont stress it! We'd all love huge stones, but are a little more limited finacially. GO FOR IT GIRL!!!

So, I went to Michael C. Fina, didn''t try on much. Some other people were there and I didn''t feel like waiting. I did try on a setting. It''s the Michael B. 2 row 3-sided pave flat. I really liked it. So, I threw that out to BF.

Plan is to head to Tiffany''s after work to look at some of there stones. Hopefully, it isn''t ridiculously crowded as "tis is the season".

Hello ladies in waiting,

Well, I am 26 and my boyfriend is 36 and. Oh wait no, I'm 27!! LOL Yesterday was my birthday!

Ok lets start over, so I'm 27 and my boyfriend is 36. We've been dating for about 3.5 years and I think "IT" may happen soon. At my friend's wedding a few weeks ago he asked the videographer for his business card and asked if I'd like to go to Italy for 3 weeks for our honeymoon. But I still don't have the ring/proposal yet! He's already agreed to let me pick out my own setting and I have my heart set on a Michael B Princess ring or else Pearlman's ring in a similar style. And yes, I sent him pictures of both already. I want a very delicate setting and a large ROCK! =P

But we have yet to go ring shopping so that I can try on rings & find out my ring size. =( And he's looking into purchasing land to develop houses or shopping centers....so maybe he won't be proposing any time soon. We also bought homes this year (me a condo in huntington beach and he a house in palm springs as an investment). So, it's all up in the air and I have no idea what's going through his head. Or WHEN it will happen.

Obviously, I didn't get a ring last night but I did receive a beautiful pair of diamond stud earrings set in white gold from my man. I don't know the specs (he says it's coming in the mail?) but they're 0.75 tcw in a 4 prong white gold setting. I think he loves them just as much, if not more than me. He wanted to cleaned them before I left for work this morning! I said that it was ok and didn't need a cleaning, but he insisted and so he cleaned them for me! Cute huh?

So yes, that is my story. Just playing the waiting game...

Another fellow grad student here- i''ve been meaning to post for some time but we''re on the quarter system and I have papers and finals mere days away. Yesterday was the BF''s and my 2-year anniversary and I wasn''t dumb enough to get my hopes up, and I''m trying to be pleasant about the tanzanite necklace he gave me, but on the inside I''m thinking this e-ring could have been designed and paid for already with the amount of money he''s spent buying me tanzanites these past years. And I know I''ve spent too much looking at blown up and close up diamond pictures on PS when he says "there''s diamonds in there too" and I laugh. Oh...those specks are diamonds? Can I see some numbers on those?!

There''s been some hinting about Christmas, but I don''t know...we have the diamond already....seriously, I''ll craft a setting out of duct tape if I have to....

Update, BF was out of pocket for 2 hours yesterday.No answer on cell or work phone. I was like where is this boy. So, he finally calls and was like he had to take care of some business in the city.

Yeah, right. I finally got him to admit that he was on 47th with Mark, I suppose looking at more diamonds. I asked did you like anything, he said "perhaps" with a devilish grin.

. He is enjoying this way too much, I think. He has another appointment on Monday.

I do have to admit, that I got home yesterday and there was no mail in our box, so I was like, is he home?? So, for those 30 seconds, I iimagined when I opened the door, there would be candles lit everywhere and he would be on one knee with my ring. I opened the door to a pitch black house, and realized yesterday was Veterans Day, no mail. Stupid girl.

I told BF when he got home and he just laughed.

So, I went to Zales just to get some sizes. Bad, Bad, Decision, The stones were just awful, this woman was showing me 2 ct, I2, J color and was like its nearly colorless, the yellow was just astounding. I can''t believe folks shop there. You can much better deals elsewhere.

Denverkat - your story is so funny about the tanzanite necklace. A girl I know is also waiting for her e-ring and her boyfriend just gave her earrings (in a little square box!!!) for their anniversary. Poor thing. I''m glad that none of our holidays(anniversary, b-day etc) happened while I was waiting for my e-ring. And I told him I didn''t want any jewelery for my birthday in july, cuz I just wanted the e-ring.. even though I bought myself that other ring.

Yanekie - Are the zales diamonds really that bad? I''ve never really shopped there for diamonds, I guess I just think of them as like a step above like Kays. Don''t ask me why though. I have a diamond heart necklace with about 20 little teeny diamonds (1/2 ct total) from them actually, and the diamonds are not the greatest quality. Even before I knew anything about diamonds, there was a stone or two that always looked really "dark" There are one or two that just don''t sparkle, and there are times when I swear I can see black spots on them. But they are really too teeny for me to see that. I think they''re just really poorly cut, with low color and pretty included.. but mostly just poorly cut.

I posted on the brides world wide forum about this other dress I found, but I thought that you girls would want to see it too.

I tried it on yesterday and its REALLY cute and fits me really well. Its by Mori Lee Informals.. and its only $250. I just think its so cute and something "different"

And I REALLY love it on me. The store sample was a teeny bit big on me. But the train, which doesn''t show well in this picture, but you can see in the pictures I took from the mall, is SO gorgeous. Its just all delicate and lacey.. i love it. Its $750.. which is still pretty reasonable for a gown, especially since I''m buying all my accessories from AC Moore (Viel, tiara etc) for a total of about $50, and if I wear this gown, I''ll wear ballet slippers. I probably won''t get away with that with the shorter one.

Okay. I should get going. Its my fiance''s birthday today and I just baked him a cake. Aren''t I such a good future wifey? I also need to write his cards and clean up this place though!!

No ring yet... that i know of. From what ive figured out its supposed to be finished next week (which is 2 additional weeks than they originally said). My b/f likes to put on that devilsh face when i ask about my ring too. I HATE IT! Im just afraid he is enjoying teasing me too much and seeing how long he can keep it up! Like i totally see him going and picking up the ring, taking it to his friend and then coming home and saying something like, "Guess what i picked up today?!" and leave me hanging.
