I meant orange, it is sort of an goldenrod color. Most of their stuff is really good. It is worth trying. L''oreal owns it, in Europe it is more like a high end drug store line...

I am soo going ot have to check this out...

My most frustrating this is getting my products all figured out...then moving and having different water harder/softer

Now I have the worlds softest water...really annoying...if I do the cond only thing...I will have to use just a bit

In the past I have had luck with the shampoo/cond combo..and a leave in
actually you will use a lot, to thoroughly coat your scalp and so you can scrub. you''ll see!

A little late to the thread.

I''ve never, ever heard of this and I''m skeptical, but since everyone is saying good things about throwing out the shampoo, I''m going to try it. I''ll have to check to see if the bookstore has that book too.

My hair is just a little curlier than the girl''s on the cover of the book. I''ve always felt like the biggest cause of my frizz has to do with the weather. I live in the humid south and my hair is fine when it''s winter and not raining. My hair is pretty healthy because I rarely straighten or blow dry it. But I''m going to try this out and see if it makes my hair better.

I worry that not using shampoo won''t get rid of the 3+ heaping hand fulls of products I use after I get out of the shower (does anyone else use that much?). I''m also worried my scalp will be greasy, but I guess the weekend''s the best time to try it out.

I still use plenty of product, but I seriously can't believe how much my hair has calmed down. It was kind of hard to get used to at first--I kept thinking it looked flat, but to everyone else on the planet it just looks nice and curly-but-not-big.

I discovered that it does matter which conditioner you use--I haven't tried LadyKemma's VO5, but after reading up on products at naturallycurly.com I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be moisturizing enough for my hair You can kind of see in my avatar how curly it is, but it's longer now). I've had good success with Suave's Biolage clone--I think it's called Biobasics.

yeah, and the textural change - my hair became soft and sleek. using a pick helped with the volume.

LadyK, you are certainly a great advert for this routine with your hair - it looks great! I have waves and a bit of curl which ends up as a headful of "frizz" on damp days ( according to my shorn DH who doesn't have to worry about such things). My hair is mid back length and mostly I shove it into a bun or a ponytail as the mood takes me to get it out of the way. I might try just diluted conditioner on 'dry' days with my hair, provided I am not too filthy from working outside.

yes, use the "runny" non greasy ones and scrub your scalp with the condish!. a lot of people don''t get it that you are SCRUBBING YOUR SCALP WITH THE CONDISH TO GET THE YUCK AND DEAD SKIN CELLLS OFF YOUR SCALP. they glop on the conditioner, let it sit, and wonder why this isn''t working. or they don''t use enough. "isn''t a tablespoon enough?" uh, NO! use 1/3 of the bottle! (until you get the hang of it)

ah, blush, thanks for the compliment!

You are most welcome LadyK, your hair really does look beautiful! I am definitely going to try with the conditioner only on some days unless my hair is really dirty and see what happens! I can get the VO5 here so I am going to get me some!

Okay so I am going to try this...does the book discuss water hardness/softness and how it affects geting the conditioner out...I always new it was a facto but never realized how much til I moved and now have the softest water...

I couldn''t find the VO5...so I just got some basic Pantene (on sale :-)...

Will see what happens

pantene is a bottle of silicone, so I don't think you will get good results. so don't be put off with the results if it doesn't work.

report back?

Thanks will check before I use it...

ohhhh. . .i''m CG (curly girl) too! I use suave naturals as a COwash (it actually almost "lathers", i don''t know how to explain it). Then I started using Nature''s Gate as my conditioner. I leave in quite a bit because I am naturally a 3C but have been relaxed down to a 3B (i''m transitioning). I use Herbal Essence Set Me Up gel mixed in with a little condish for some hold. So far my hair is so much softer. Almost as soft as when I used to straighten it out. It''s ridiculous! And whoever mentioned www.naturallycurly.com is right. It''s the best site! Yay for curly girls. :-)

OK, i have just coloured my hair so I had to shampoo, but what I did was to use a ton of conditoner, keep adding some water to really dilute, then scrub my scalp again. My hair is in a tail drying so we will see what happens, the only problem is I have used a well known conditioner that might have ''cones in it...We will see!

I tried this when the last thread was started and my scalp was so itchy that I only lasted for about a week. I definitely scrubbed my scalp, but no matter what I did my scalp was oily and itchy. The reason I tried it was because the pantene I''d been using was making my hair dry and really frizzy. I recently got Pantene for brunettes and it''s made such a difference. My hair is so much better conditioned and my scalp doesn''t bother me anymore.

Maybe I needed to give the CO routine more of a chance, but I couldn''t take the itching.

hey robbie
first time i tried it i itched like heck! It was horrible. the second time ''round, i used a clarifying shampoo first to rid my hair of all the products. then, when you are following cg, i recommend suave naturals for co-wash because it seriously does this strange "lather" thing. Also, when you leave-in conditioner, i rub it through the ends, but i just "smooth" it on the top. That way, there is no leave-in touching my scalp. Ya know what i mean? This time ''round, no itchiness. :-) Also, if you use a hair product, make sure it is CG friendly. It makes a world of difference. :-) g''luck!

Last Sunday I was talking to a friend who is curly but usually straightens and thought she didn''t have a "nice" curl about this. Between then and now she bought the book and tried it and when I saw her today I couldn''t believe how great her hair looked! So cute and curly. For me it wasn''t a dramatic difference in the look, just more like I''m having a good hair day every day, but for her it was one of those transformations the book talks about. Go curlies!

About the cones . . . I''m not convinced yet that they''re evil, but I guess time will tell. The store was out of my usual spray gel last week so I bought Suave (yes, I''m a Suave commercial) Healthy Curls mousse and I really, really like it. I just got around to checking the ingredients, though and it has something-methicone. I''ve only been using if for a couple of days, though, so maybe it will build up and I''ll find out what the big deal is about cones.

hey ladies, this will not work washing with pantene!

you need a conditioner that lathers up like VO5 kiwi and lime or the suave naturals without protein.

Another curly girl here! Initially skeptic, I decided to stop using shampoo and see what happened sometime over the summer. After a month, I figured out that I do need to shampoo every once in a while, but I can go a while with it feeling and looking perfectly clean. (Maybe every two weeks?) I''ve asked my FH to be completely honest with me about whether my hair looks unkempt, and he keeps insisting it looks great. I rinse it out once every day or two, and usually put on some conditioner while I''m in the shower. The diluted shampoo is a great idea -- I''ll try it the next time I shampoo.

Lady Kemma, your hair looks great! I have some random hair questions-

1) Where can you get jajoba oil? I''d like to try it, but couldn''t find it at the grocery store last night.

2) I feel like I''ve been finding a bunch more split ends lately, and the only thing that I can really pinpoint changing recently (past couple of months) is going from Pantene to VO5. (Well, I''m putting it up in braids and buns more, but I feel like that should help protect it.) I''ve read that ''cones can help mask damage -- do you think that lack of cones could just be making the split ends more apparent, or is it probably something else?

pantene baaaadddd.

naturals goooooooddd.

1.health food store? i don't use oil on my hair...

2. i think you are seeing what your hair looks like without the floor wax. do you know about "search and destroy"? or do you need a half inch trim ?

are you treating your hair like antique lace? refraining from using a brush?

i don't get splits at the very bottom, i get splits and breakage along the length. for these i do "search and destroy".

Is oil not good for curly hair? I keep seeing mentions of it on the long hair community and decided to try to find some and try it out.

I treat it as gently as possible, and try to keep thinking of it as antique lace. I had a 1/2" trim sometime in the last month, and I''m S&Ding about once a week (which seems rather obsessional, I admit). No brushing, but I comb it gently with a wide-tooth comb about once every day or two.

I''ve been wondering if it''s the lack of "floor wax" and have been tempted to go back, but I know that this should be better in the long run.

And here''s some more proof for the other ladies that very infrequent shampooings don''t mean oily looking hair

Blenheim, we are hair twins! Really similar color and everything, though yours is a little longer.

when i first started doing this, i became aware of just how damaged my hair was, from use of salicylic acid dandruff shampoos, to my brushing days, to when i had had appendicitis. Like tree rings, you could see this in my hair length. The VO5 conditioner only washing just made the distinction incredibly obvious. healthy, soft, luxurious hair to shoulders /bra strap, and then crunchy hair with no cuticle, like straw, below shoulders/ bra strap.

silicone is good at concealing the straw hair - that''s why people buy it. then when you stop using it it''s like an epiphany

and people either go running for the silicone again or tough it out, and cut out the damage bit by bit. i was addicted to biosilk, myself. i sucked it up and cut off four inches so i wouldn''t run for the cones again.

blemheim, nice hair! which VO5 did you choose?

I looked up the VO% Kiwi Lime and it doesn''t look like it is safe for color treated hair...looks like it would strip my color. My hair is colored (to cover grey and a dull base color) then highlighted. Any suggestions on good conditioners to use for my color treated hair if I try the no shampooing?

islanddreams. . my friend is CG and she has color on her hair. She uses suave naturals as her CO-wash and natures gate as her conditioner as well. It''s worked pretty well for her. :-) also, i dont know why my quote was highlighted as saying pantene won''t work? I hate pantene. Haha. I used it twice in back in high school and got dandruff both times. Terrible stuff. Dunno. . probably just a misquote. :-) G''luck everyone.

Hi...well I found some VO5 Kiwi Lime...I am not sure where you saw that it was not good for color treated hair...but the bottle I have indicates that it is safe...

We will see I color (way too much gray)...I think it should be fine

oh, that was me. i was trying to stress that the conditioner needs to lather, not the use of pantene. sorry, wasn''t clear!

Christa, how cool! It''s not that often that I find a hair twin. (Although I think your color''s more like my brother''s than mine, but that''s certainly close enough.

) I''ve been making an effort to grow it out.

LK, I went into the grocery store and bought a bunch that smelled good. Not the best way to go about it, I know, but it''s allowing me to play around with different ones and see how my hair reacts. I love how cheap they are. I think that Free Me Freesia''s doing the same thing to my hair, so I''m not really using that one. I''ll use your suggestions next time I''m in the store.

chuckle - the local CVS pharmacy - the man was grumbling about "can''t keep this stuff on the shelf..."

i think a lot of people are using it. the matching kiwi and lime shampoo just sits there, forlorn.

Oh, I see! I thought it was with any conditionner and I was pretty skeptical... Hm, maybe I should try it!

Here''s a pic of my curly hair... It''s longer now, passed my shoulders.

Heh - I am all set! Found some Tangerine Tickle in the VO5 and also the strawberries and cream which I couldn''t resist so we will see what happens.
