Okay, got that.

Other option is to get imperial-green jade cabochon for the Elessar pendant. Wonder which will be better and more expensive, F1 old-mine Muzo green emerald or imperial green jadeite. Will cost a small fortune for either.
Good idea.
@Crimson is well-versed in both fine Colombian emerald and jadeite, so perhaps she can speak to how the pricing compares. I am still woefully lacking in matters of jade quality/value, though Crimson has been doing her best to educate me!
Thank you for encouraging me to start the Evalautimg Jadeit4 thread!
I'm certainly not one of the jade experts here, but true imperial green jadeite would be more expensive I believe. If you are willing to compromise on color or translucency level, maybe it’s a good alternative - jade's greens are beautiful even if not true 'imperial green'. But I'll let the experienced jade posters weigh in. :)
I think it all boils down to:
What size and specifications?
What budget?
Then it would be a matter of comparing according to price.
Both can reach stratospheric levels but jadeite isn’t measured by carats.
So it boils down to what one wants and can get for a particular price.

Spotted some awful typos above but time to edit has run out. Sorry! Revised version below.

@toomuchB I agree! I think it boils down to:
Size and specifications (cut quality, proportions. length, breadth height)
Origin.
Budget

A jade eyecandy I was offered few years ago but declined…

Hi @Sydneyphoenix

If you want a colombian emerald of top quality, ask George Smith on IG. He has everything. Expensive, yes, but no surprises.

No oil top color will be as expensive, if not more, than an unheated ruby. Just FYI, 20k+ per carat. And it only goes up.

I got 1.5ct minor oil for 5.5k and it was a good deal I think, i don’t care about oil as opposed to heat in rubies (which significantly change the color of the stone), and unless you are dead set on this, neither should you.

One of the original stones I posted is from him, and I agree, he has everything, maybe except no-oil old-mine Muzo-green stuff, which is way out of my reach. But minor-oil stuff of similar quality would be a good compromise, either that or imperial green jadeite cabochon.

I bought my emerald from George as well! It's 2ct., Muzo, minor oil. I sort of wish I'd waited to increase my budget, and gone with a 2.5ct. or 3ct. The nice thing with emerald though is that, all things being equal, they face up larger than most other gems due to beryl's low density. Anyway, other than the weight, it's the emerald of my dreams. He's lovely to work with too.

Price aside, I think killer jadeite -- that could evoke a fine emerald cab -- is almost unattainable in the US. At least now, it seems a lot easier to source an emerald of almost any quality provided you're willing to pay. This is not the case for jadeite. I've only seen the good stuff in pictures. I do trust my own eyes with jadeite better than I would with a Mogok ruby or a Kashmir sapphire -- but I doubt I will ever own the latter two and, if I did, it would only be with hands-on professional guidance.

I feel like I have to mention, @Sydneyphoenix,
I don't now know you or your buying priorities, and there is no correct way to go about this. But if I were you I would take a step back and evaluate what I really want, the budgets I want to invest, and how long to spend looking for the right pieces.

I have not followed most of your threads but from the last few I've seen you go from wanting a fine approx 1 no heat burma ruby, to a 1ct no oil muzo emerald, to potentially a fine piece of jadeite.

Maybe you are confident and know what you want, and that's great. My concern is you are rushing things, and looking for something fine (if not perfect) in every famous category of gems asap, instead of spending more time contemplating.

I apologize if this is rude, let me know if it is and I'll apologies again and take this back. This feeling is purely my pov from the outside seeing you change your mind so often and so quickly. I am a much slower buyer than you, so perhaps that is the source of my concern - just different buying methods/personalities. Hopefully you can tell this is not intended as an attack by any means (many online interactions can come off that way unintentionally). In fact I acknowledge your lack fearlessness and decisiveness and I could use more of these traits it to balance my hesitancy.

No offence taken at all, no need to apologise. :-)

You are probably right that I am rushing things, trying to think about three bucket list items at once, but emerald is more of an aside as I had frustrations with finding a ruby, and jadeite was more of. “And/or” thoughts, almost interchangeable with emerald. But I am more likely to go for an imperial jadeite than a fine Muzo emerald in the long run, pulled out of buying the original emeralds mentioned at the start of the thread. So back to looking for a ruby, currently negotiating over a stone pending repolishing.

Feel free to counsel and advise at any time including when you believe I am rushing or going off tangent, this is one of the main purposes of interacting in this forum. Have a wonderful day!

Oh I'm not much of a counselor at all, I wish I had the knowledge. It was just a thought I wanted to respectfully convey to you. You seem to be more focused than I suspected, though, with what you explained the above. Thank you for taking it well and may you have a great day too.
