Any recommended recutters?

What are you getting recut?

A tourmaline! It's currently a hideously executed Portuguese cut with a small window.

FYI the FedEx shipping was like 60- 65 dollars each way.

That's actually not too bad! It costs me that much to overnight packages to NYC, and I could drive there to deliver them myself.

Now you have a trusted cutter should you need anything else done in the future, which is worth its weight in gold.

Thanks! I have another red spinel that I might get recut later depending on what I plan to do with it.

Tourmalines seem to often come in Portugese cuts.

Boyd Fox is a literal wizard. I just got my jedi ring back today from him, I had him take a look to see if the stone was a good candidate for a recut. Before there was a small window that was most prominent in diffused daylight, didn't bother me too much but I felt there could be improvement. Now it's completely window free and even inclusions are hidden! From 1.18 to 1.08ct and no loss of face up size:eek2:

Couple of quick pics as I literally just opened the box. Can't believe it!!!!:dance::dance:

Well, you know how I adore this stone and ring, first of all! And I can't believe Boyd managed to nip and tuck it while only sacrificing 10 points!! Well worth the effort and expense. I never tire of gazing at this piece!!

Did it seriously only lose 9 pts. with all that improvement?! :eek2: Boyd is a magician!! He's recutting a stone for me as we speak. Oh I'm so glad it worked out well. Congrats!!

Actually still does have a slight window but I don't think it can be rid of due to positions of the inclusions and the fact that it's a shallow stone (unless you lose a lot of weight). Still though a huge improvement.

Its fantastic !

Anyone willing to share what a recut from Boyd cost you? I’m considering purchasing an old ring to repurpose the center stone and it most likely will need a recut. Trying to gauge if it’s worth purchasing.

Also some photos of the different colours it shows under different lighting conditions - the photos are blurred as if I don't take them quite close up I can't capture the colour:

Perhaps not a stone for those who dislike inclusions
