Anyone have any luck selling their Diamond ring (3ct plus) on their own?

Hey All,

I think I may be going the route of selling Coco on my own, or trying an alternative route. As a reminder, Coco is my gorgeous 4.56 ct OEC. You can read about her here:

She has been with Grace for a bit now, and I think I need a fresh community/set of eyes on it. No issues with Grace, whatsoever, she has been great, and actually sold my last diamond in 2 days... I am kind of shocked she hasn't sold yet, but I am biased of course! Thoughts? I have reached out to a few places to see if they would be interested in purchasing- but I think if I sell it personally, it may be a win-win for both parties since I would be pricing it lower than through consignment. I would, of course, have a 3rd party help with the transaction - thinking I may reach out to David Atlas to help with Escrow, etc. Anyway, putting out the feelers and also looking for any additional recommendations.

TIA ;)2

I did but sold bea to a friend. And grace was kind enough to be the intermediary after my friend and I agreed on the details. And she didn’t charge me. But I was purchasing a ring from her at the time. So likely that’s why she helped us without a fee

That worked out so perfect for you and Austina!!!

My experience is that when diamonds don’t sell — on consignment or as a private individual — it’s because they are priced too high.

Yes it did and I am so happy she is enjoying her. It could not have worked out better. It was a win win for us both

Post it in the preloved forum and if there’s interest, pull it from consignment or maybe see if Grace can facilitate the sale?

I think larger $ sales/ sales in general are just slowing. I noticed some of the popular IG vendors aren’t selling their stuff as quickly anymore as well.

HI:

Not sure if this qualifies, but I took my over 6 ctw ring back to the vendor I bought it from. I had no idea that he would buy it, but he did. It worked out--painless.

cheers--Sharon

I adore Grace’s inventory, but man I wish that she would post better photographs and take better photographs. I’m kind of shocked at how bad they are! So that doesn’t help matter :( I think that @mrs-b sold a big diamond to someone who was a fellow PSer but I think in general it’s really tough because if somebody is going to plunk that amount of money down, they probably want an inspection/return possibility and all the protections that come with buying from a dealer or a retailer and/or paying with a cc.

I would probably put out feelers to different dealers (like Alex Park or maybe OWD) to see how much they would pay to buy your own outright rather than try to sell it alone. Just my two cents!

It’s very difficult to sell a diamond in your own. The people who have been successful who have been mentioned are all long time posters with known track records of high quality collections, with established relationships to the community. And in both cases the diamonds were PS famous. So there was a built in market. That is a very unique situation. For people without that built-in trust and reputation for stellar diamond choices, the prospect of a private sale is very poor from what I have seen. Especially if you hope to recoup near retail pricing. And the fact that you went to sell it nearly immediately after getting it is another potential red flag for some potential buyers.

Your options are:
1) be patient and keep waiting for the right buyer to come along. May take a few years as it’s a high ticket item.
2) keep it with grace and drop the price
3) Find another vendor willing to consign, maybe on IG.
4) see if the vendor who sold it to you will buy it back (may only recoup about half current market value if that)
5) sell on your own but price it more aggressively. Consider 30-40% below retail to start
4) find a vendor willing to take it in trade in towards another diamond (may get more credit here than you’d get cash otherwise).

Coco is beautiful and I think priced very competitively especially in comparison to Grace’s other rings…

Unfortuately, I think it’s a buyer market rn.

Thanks so much I have reached out to all of the above and then some! So now just playing the waiting game!

Coco is gorgeous. Do you feel comfortable telling us why you have decided to sell her? (If not, that's totally okay!)

She is too warm for me… although she is super bright, and a really white OP, I learned that I am waaaay more color sensitive than I thought I would be. My last cushion was a J and I thought she was icy white… so it’s a matter of really narrowing what I want down from these experiences. I’ve ALWAYS loved pears and this time really want to make a 3 stone pear ring.

Thank you, yes exploring all of the above right now… and weighing my options.

Any updates? Late to the thread; I see she is no longer on Grace's site. What a stunner!!

Also wondering about updates - and if she hasnt sold yet, could you post a video? I'd love to see, and I am tempering my interest... not technically in the market right now but its hard to pass up something beautiful!

For those who have been following along, Coco is officially sold! After a full year with Grace, she sold in an hour with someone else...it's all just timing and luck! The good thing is now I am off to the races in search of my upgrade!! Thanks for following along!

Woohoo can't wait for your upgrade search to continue. We're here for the pics lol. Such great timing that you pulled her from Grace too.

Congratulations!

Congratulations! I'm so glad it finally worked out for you! Coco was lovely but your pear will be amazing and I can't wait to follow along!

Are you comfortable sharing who you sold it through? I’m looking to put up my transitional cut for sale, so I’m looking for vendors…

@Viola why not post it on preloved? It’s beautiful and the price point you paid would not be unreasonable for listing it there.

It’s beautiful! Did you ever send it off GIA? I love it!!! I would be interested in it!

Def try Jewels by Grace! This is her expertise! My first OMB sold in 48 hours, but my last OEC didn’t sell… I think because she had so much inventory with similar specs… it appears a lot has sold or moved. Consignment is always a gamble! If you can sell through pre-loved it might be your best bet!

Regarding who I consigned with…because this particular vendor doesn’t typically take outside client consignments I can’t openly share… I’m sorry. I already had a relationship with this person. Def try pre-loved if you can, you will end up with more money in your pocket!
