Ok, first of all, please don''t boot me out of here because I''m not engaged yet! I need your help!

So, I get REALLY self-conscious if I''m wearing any sort of a strapless thing, and I know for my wedding I won''t want to wear a cover-up or jacket or anything, and a wrap wouldn''t really work if I''ve got a veil...so I figure I will need some sleeves. I''m not a big fan of short-sleeves on dresses (no idea why, just don''t dig it), so I figure it will have to be at least 3/4 length or long sleeves. But a lot of the sleeves I''ve seen look weird--maybe just because it seems like 99.99999% of wedding dresses are sleeveless? I dunno.

I am looking for styles with sleeves, preferably bell sleeves. Something like this, maybe...anyone have/seen something similar?

Gah, can''t attach the picture directly, so here''s a link:

I really like the dress you posted. My friend got married 2 years ago in January (cold cold here in PA) and her dress was 3/4 length sleeved. The picture isn''t that great, and You don''t get a straight on shot of the dress, but you get the idea. It actually looked fabulous for a winter wedding.

Hey Gwen,

These are slightly different then what you posted but I liked them.

I love that dress you posted. I also love this Maggie sottero with the 3/4 length sleeves

Oh, and I know you said no strapless/cover-up/ short-sleeves, but what about a nice v-neck design? Like this one?

Hey Gwen, I think that pretty soon we''re going to start seeing less strapless gowns because it''s been so huge lately. I think that the gowns everyone else has posted are gorgeous. I googled "long sleeve wedding gown" and it brought up a whole bunch of websites with them on there. I have to say that a lot of them are vintage though because it''s just not the style right now, unfortunately. Another suggestion would be to look up Mormon wedding dresses because they have some pretty strict modesty codes. Like latterdaybride.com. They''re pretty dang conservative, but they all have some kind of sleeve.

Ooo! I love the first dress that ksprincess posted.

I hear you! And I was in love with that Maggie Sottero, so that was kind of my inspiration... kind of... when I had a dressmaker ADD sleeves to my strapless dress. I just ordered extra fabric when I ordered the dress.

Yes, really.

And nobody knew that I didn''t buy it like that.

It was EASY, cost almost nothing, and I loved loved loved my dress.

Of course, it depends on the lines of the dress and the kind of sleeves you want, but it''s really not as hard as I thought it would be! My fabric was a bit thicker so they weren''t clingy sleeves, but that was the design we were going for. My only challenge is that he had to take them in at the last minute so they weren''t quite as perfect as I''d hoped, BUT they served their purpose and went well with the dress.

I don''t have any good pics handy at work, but I will post some tonight and you can look at my pic thread here.

I do think sleeves are going to be seen a bit more often. The strapless thing has been around a LONG time now... it''s time for something different. Of course, the thing is, it''s easier for them to make strapless so they''ll probably resist change for a while.

along with the Mormon dress suggestion, many different designers have "Temple Ready" dresses... they will add sleeves to your specs and even change the neckline if you like. So google "Temple Ready". I think Jasmine is one of them.

Thank you all so very much! It''ll probably be another year until I''m even engaged, so this is way way WAY in advance, and maybe by that time long-sleeved dresses will be coming back in style? If not, then I can always see what I can do and maybe get bell sleeves made out of extra fabric like sumbride suggested!

sumbride, I just checked out the photos of your dress and you looked GORGEOUS!!! The sleeves totally look like they were designed with the dress and it looks so elegant and beautiful! Thank you for sharing!!

My dress had long sleeves, so I am posting two photos of it. I also had to say that the picture bee* posted of the Maggie Sottero dress is just the dress of my dreams! If I were young and getting married again I would definitely go for that dress, even if it meant a diet in order to look great in it! The sleeves are fabulous!!!

You can see the sleeve from a different point of view in this picture.

Deb - I LOVE your dress! That neckline is just so pretty!

Gwendolyn - Just remember when it''s time to shop, what you try on does not have to be what you end up with... almost every dress can be changed in some way... so if you like it BUT... you can sometimes change that one thing that bothers you.

I was dead set against a strapless dress, but every dress I tried on that wasn''t a strapless just wasn''t right for me. It was my mom who said "so who says this has to STAY a strapless dress???" and she started draping me. Then we started sketching. Then we found a great tailor that spoke very little English but knew exactly what I wanted and went for it. I think the sleeves cost $25. Seriously. Of course, this is East Texas pricing, so everything was cheaper, but it was by no means an expensive alteration. But in my opinion, it made the dress. Without them it was just another strapless dress. With them, it was a gown.

And the beaded straps that edge the sleeves came with the gown. lucky break.

I'm going for sleeves as well.

I'm on the thin side and have very broad shoulders so strapless and spaghetti straps just look ridiculous on me. I've also never totally loved my arms - I have loads of freckles on them due to growing up in the tropics, and no freckles anywhere else. They are also not super-toned - or even toned come to that!

I can't post any pics as my dressmaker and I have designed my wedding-dress together. Think Anne Boleyn in The Tudors, so they are long straight sleeves that finish in a point on the top of my hands with pearl edgings.

I had a first fitting for the toile on the 28th. I was really nervous as I hadn't tried on a single dress and didn't know if the style would even suit me. Luckily I absolutely LOVED it - despite it only being calico which we'd chopped about and drawn all over! My second toile fitting is at the end of January, when the sleeves will be on it - so I'll try and get some pics.

It's well worthwhile looking around in the UK for a dressmaker - try the art colleges as well. As a former textile/fashion degree student, many of us would have been only too happy to make a wedding dress, some of my friends did quite a few for people and it was much cheaper than buying from a shop.

I''ve seen some rockin'' Romona Kevezas with sleeves... on bridepower.com?

And yeah, I''m pretty sure sleeves can be added to a lot of gowns. I wish it wasn'' The Day of the Strapless too. Not my fave style. I feel naked, and I worry about keeping The Girls aloft without serious hydraulic engineering!

I''m not to crazy about my arms either, and because there are so many dang strapless dresses out there I''ve thought about doing a cape or something similar. Seems like most of the sleeved dresses out there just aren''t my style but I feel like I could easily do a corset top with an A line/ball gown skirt with a custom (my mom''s best friend isn''t a seamstress but she''s amazing with a needle and thread) cape. Not like I have to worry about it yet, but I guess its never too soon to start thinking about it.

I too am in the "please dear God can we cover these arms so as to avoid frightening the children" camp and I was so totally sure I NEEDED a dress with long sleeves, or at the very least a cardigan with partial sleeves in order to feel at all comfortable in a wedding gown. Even as I tried on 40+ dresses I kept trying to imagine how I would hide my arms because I am SO unbelievably self conscious about them but then, as if by magic, when I found "the dress" I didn''t even notice my arms at all. Hard to believe I know...especially considering my dress has *gasp* a cap sleeve of sorts which usually means death to a bigger arm as it draws attention to my meaty upper brazos but something about the top just draws the eye away from my arms and I couldn''t be happier.

I think part of the secret is trying on all sorts of top styles. Some people think sleeveless or spaghetti straps make arms thinner but I''m in more of the halter tops or thicker straps create the right proportions camp so you really need to just try some different things on and see what works for you.

It''s never too early to start looking ;)

When you go dress shopping just ask which lines have "temple ready" options. Otherwise try and see if there are specific websites for orthodox jewish or mormon brides for information, both of whom must wear long sleeves at the ceremony...so anything like that might be a good resource for you. I bet they''ve banded together somewhere online to help others find ls dresses!

Oh...your post just reminded me of one of my favorite dresses ever! Courtney Cox...I believe it''s Valentino, so pretty pricey, but just gorgeous.

Thanks, Skippy. That was back before the dawn of time...over 30 years ago. You are adorable right now. :-). I don''t think I''ve ever bothered to say so when others have praised your beauty, but now is as good a time as any other. I love to see your smiling face. It is a joy to look at you.

here you go, sumbride had actually posted it in her therad above :) : https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/sumbrides-snapshots-and-pro-teaser-pics.71045/

Wow! That is an impressive thread! Summer looks wonderful and every detail of her wedding is perfectly planned! (I can''t comment in that thread since it is closed.) My wedding was thrown together quickly and looked it. When I see details like initials in the bouquets I can''t believe someone took the time to plan that!

Thank you!!! We spent 14 months planning, but most of it was due to the time of year we had to wait for and the fact that I live 1000 miles away from our wedding location (my hometown), but I had a LOT of help. There were so many people involved that they did most of it without me. I didn''t really know what the whole thing would look like until the day of!

Oooh, brazen_irish_hussy (awesome name, by the way
