Not a wedding dress, but I need a dress for our "Wedding celebration party." We eloped so this will be our first time back in town to see the family and MIL is throwing us a party. I had no idea what to wear, but earlier the same day my sis and I are going to see RENT! It's only like our favorite musical, and the guys that originally played Mark and Roger in the original Broadway cast are going to be in it! Okay I'm in a hurry, and no time time to gush about RENT

..... But anyway, I'd like to dress up for the theatre so I was thinking little black dress. So here's the dress I think I am going to get. I tried it on yesterday and I thought it looked good but I didn't buy it because it wasn't 50% off, but no I am thinking since I can't find anything else I should just go for it.

What do you think?

It's going to be cold and snowy in my hometown. So how can I warm this dress up? I'm thinking cardigan and opaque (sp?) tights? Any suggestions.

Or is this dress somehow inappropriate?

Hi mia and my wonderful Oliver! (how''s he doing, by the way? is the wheelchair working well for him?)

I tend to think the dress cannot be "warmed up" right mostly because of the neckline...and the material doesn''t seem appropriate for anything other than bare legs...

But I''m not always the most creative, so I''d love to see what other people say...

drats! I''m screwed! I don''t know how to do winter dresses! When I lived at home I never wore dresses in the winter, I am much more of a sundress girl!

Oliver is laying in bed with me right now sleeping across my legs, so I''d say he''s doing pretty well! The wheelchair is great although we really have to limit it''s use because he tends to forget how to walk after being in it. It''s pretty sad that the more paralyzed he gets, the more he will be able to "walk!" But really he''s still a pretty happy little guy! DH bough me a new game for Wii where you turn into a wolf and you make all kids of doggy sounds as you walk around. So Oliver''s new hobby is to freak out at the noises and bark at the TV screen all day. He''s such a great watchdog!

I don''t know how to do winter dresses either, so don''t listen to me too much - hopefully others will chime in. Any chance you could do black dressy pants, beautiful boots, etc.?

Give Oliver a kiss for me - glad to hear he''s doing well and happy. He''s so funny - if you post a video of him barking at the game please let us know!

I have to agree, the material is too dressy to dress down. If that makes sense.

What about something like this with a cardigan and tights?

Depending on what time you go to the show, is there a time that you could wear something warmer there, and then change into your party dress? Just a thought...

What about a dressier sweater? Crappy photoshop job.

I think I''ll get it and return it if I can''t find something to work with it. I really haven''t been able to find anything else that looks decent on me. A sweater dress would be great, but I look/feel frumpy in them.

A dressier sweater would be nice. As someone already said tights wouldn''t really go, but some knee high boots would be hot!

Personally I think the dress is just fine by itself

Then again I''m from fargo where it''s winter year round
In the summer girls wear tiny mini skirts with flip flops

This looks cute!!

May just be me, and I don''t know what you or your body looks like but does anyone else think it is unflattering on the model?!? That is usually a huge red flag for me.

Hi Mia!!! I'm so glad your dog is doing well!!

I think the dress is great. Especially if you already know it looks good on you, and you need something and can't find anything else, be done with it and get it! I think any nice sweater over it, some pretty jewelry, and either boots or tights (opaque or sheer, either one) with dress shoes would look absolutely fine. I certainly don't wear dresses that often, but what you're describing and what's in your photoshop job above looks just fine.

Hope you enjoy and have a great time!

I have this dress and have worn it many times with a fur bolero. It''s always a hit; very classy

Do you mean the tummy? Didn't notice until you pointed it out. Well I don't see it on me, but I tried it on before seeing the pic of the model. I actually think it's quite flattering even though it's pretty much made out of elastic, it really smoothes my body so there are no bulges. Hmmm.... maybe I should post a pic to be sure it looks okay. The only issue I am having is I am somewhat short (in clothing designer eyes) at 5'4. This dress goes a bit past my knees and I think it's supposed to be knee length. I might have to get it hemmed. Anyway I might post a pic and see what you girls think.

Well it was meant to be!!!!!! Went back to the store and the dress was 50% off! How cool was that? I'm so glad I decided not to get it yesterday! So now I am off to find some type of sweater to go with it. No luck at the mall, which sucks because I could swear last time I was there, all the stores had them.

Going to look at gypsy's link now!

ETA- Perfect Gypsy!

That's exactly what I need... although I'd like one a bit sparkly.

I love a good deal! You have such a rockin'' body (I remembering sighing over your beautiful wedding photos) and I''m sure you''ll be able to pull it off perfectly.
