Anyone want to help with my setting? The struggle is real! (2.10ct, O color, AVR)

I have not read all the posts in detail, however, seeing you already have a ring with an Emerald halo of some sort, I would suggest opting for red stones in this ring, and am hoping that's what you have decided!

It will be fabulous whatever you will decide, can't wait to see the finished ring!

DK :kiss2:

I decided on a Ruby halo! I love emeralds (and green is one of my favorite colors), but I’m pushing myself to try something new with this one.

The faux halo style is very deco and they lived their angles. That might be the main reason we don’t see a round version. That and you can just do a regular bezel when it’s round. Are you totally against a hexagonal or octagonal form?

Found a round version! @ZestfullyBling has round faux bezels on her five stone!

Thank you so much for sharing!! I just saved the photo for inspiration and so I can try and play with it in photoshop later.

Ps. Reminder to self: One must remember to follow one’s own threads. :shifty:

I haven’t made any progress since my last CAD (I know, seriously :eh:), but I’m trying to get the creative juices flowing again. So here I am with some Friday afternoon photoshop musings.

I’m still thinking on the best way to set the center stone. I know I want to use a faux bezel with claw prongs (because I love those sharp little babies). I tried out an octogonal bezel in my last CAD, but I’m not sure that I love that. I think it messed with the shape of the halo. I’m still not in love with the gallery, so im just ignoring it while I work on other parts.

I love the shape of my new LGD red spinel ring. The 10 sides gives it a smoother / rounder edge which I like. So I tried that out. I played with the prong placement as well (Left side prong lines up North & South. Right side prongs line up where the petals dip into the corners).

Using the beautiful @ZestfullyBling’s ring and showing the options on my original mock up.

Playing with adding in a leaf / small split at the top of the shoulders. Something delicate and floral. I would want it to curve in / under, but I don’t possess those kinds of photoshop skills. Thank you @Rfisher for the idea.

This one was provided by @Rfisher earlier in the thread. I think this is super cute.

Me somehow butchering it with the same inspiration photo. :wavey::lol:

Or there’s always the classic diamonds up the side…

I think the prongs need to align somehow with the borders of the gems in the halo, which is what makes your LGD spinel ring work so well (in part). I wonder about adjusting the shape of the EW so that the borders of the gems meet where the prong is. I am assuming these gems will be custom cut anyway.

I really don’t think you should make such a tiny split shank at like you’ve mocked up there in your photoshopping.
I think it’ll be very busy and take away from the elegant look you’ve got going.
Also you have the added benefit of having the edge go into a point- having two little points stick out into nothing will not be harmonious

Here’s a shank on one of my rings. You could ask them to do something like this a floral it up a little

How do you feel about the highlighted area? The way the gallery is with the shoulder design.

And

She also has a previous thread showing a cad in process - the triwire /tri shoulder plus the gallery design is what made me think of you.
This ring is a super similar to a ring I love dearly - so I love it too. Sholdt for a custom design has been added to a list somewhere ……lol.

Hmmm I don't know if I personally like an octagonal bezel on a floral ring. Like it feels a bit too geometric and angular for something as swoopy and elegant as your floral design? What about a round collet style faux bezel with prongs? I really like the ones on Singlestone and Andria Barbone. I think a simple delicate bezel (as thin as the bezel around your outer petals) with milgrain would look really pretty too :)

And I LOVE the details of your gallery! It's sooo pretty!

I’m excited for you and glad Clover gets a ruby sister!

For the gallery, what if you mimicked the shape of the halo, the way the donut also follows the shape, but with clean swoops without any curls to keep it airy?
The photo below is not exact but the closest I could find.

Regarding potential side stones, I think one diamond on each side, cut like the rubies used could be really nice! Or maybe since you’re doing a taper, a carre cut set like a kite with the taper, or a kite/shield cut?

Just checking in to see if you had set that beauty yet! I almost wish I had bought it back when I had the chance, but I am so happy it has gone to someone who will treasure it and set it beautifully!

Thank you for your input. I really do appreciate it. :kiss2:
I'm trying to find a way to bring that floral feeling into the shank...and failing miserably. I want something floral & feminine feeling without taking too much attention from the diamond / ruby halo.

This is a cute take on a tri-wire and you could add a slightly more leafy detail in the top portion IMG_7123.jpeg
Ok, this is nice. I don't have anything with a tri-wire yet and I do love that look.
One big thing for me is that I don't like the shoulders to look bulky so I definitely want to keep things tucked under the edge of the halo, with that perfect swoop inwards, if that makes sense. Kind of like my Clover ring (profile pic) where the shoulders swoop under to give that perfect look from above.

Hmm...while I do love the leaf on the shank, I don't care for the part around it. It feels disconnected to me. I'm wondering if there's a way to kind of connect the leafs without making a bulky look on the shoulders. Something where they tuck under a bit, and kind of swoop like the picture Niel shared.

That is exactly what I thought. It works with my lab diamond / red spinel ring perfectly, but the geometric / angular look is really out of place on this design. It just doesn't fit.
My goal is to have a perfectly round faux bezel for the center (with migraine of course). I also want the claw prongs to come from the inside of the faux bezel, not the outside of it. The problem is that I haven't been able to find a great example of that to share with DK. I want the center to look delicately placed in there, which probably makes no sense without pics. lol

Thank you for the pic. It does help. I like the gallery in my cads, but I don't love it. I would love to free up a little space so it doesn't look too cluttered. Something to make it a bit more airy. I've just been bone dry on ideas. lol

I do like the idea of adding just a small touch of bling to the shoulders. I am just having a hard time visualizing it. Who knew this ring would be so hard for me. :wall:

Sadly, I haven't set her yet. She's still hanging out with David Klass, waiting on me to finish this damn design. :knockout:

Ps. I, for one, am super grateful you didn't snag her back when she went up for sale. I've been lusting after her since she was yours. lol
So for now she's all mine, mine, mine...and I will treasure her every day!:love::love:

@elle_71125 has you cried mercy and given up? Made any progress?
I refuse to admit defeat. I know this ring will be spectacular...I just need to figure it out first.

I can't believe my last attempt at progress on this beauty was in August!
Time freaking flies when you're not having fun. lol. Between my workload having increased to obnoxious levels, and my constant companion (chronic migraines), I just haven't had it in me to work on this. I can't believe I'm even saying that! :eek2:

It's definitely time to start working on this beauty again. I could use some shoulder inspiration if anyone has good ideas. I want something feminine & floral, without taking away from the center diamond & halo.
It's time people. I should have had this baby on my finger a LONG time ago!

I'm also thinking about another, unrelated project, but it will definitely take a while.
Does anyone know where one can find/buy old mine cut melee?

@elle_71125 I like this for the shank and shoulder. K-I-S-S as they say! And getting it done in an elegant was and on your hand seems like a good priority after all this time. Sometimes done is better than perfect (this is what I am telling my grad students right now who are struggling across the thesis finish line, and it seems appropriate here too!)

I think vendors can access this. Sako sometimes has some. Or buying an ugly brooch or cluster ring on ebay. You won't find true OMC melee that way, as in cushion shaped -- I feel like mostly you see rustic/older rounded old cuts in the pieces that have survived this long.
