Anything you regret not buying?

This peruzzi still haunts me. The color was too low for me to consider for an e-ring and I just couldn’t swing it at the time, but I just loved it.

I would’ve wanted it in a Leen Heyne ring or something simple and rose gold

1. Diamond studs that were fantastic, but just out of range, and we didn't buy them. 2. A necklace - woven gold chains. We bought the bracelet, but the necklace was out of budget. The owner's wife eventually took it as her own.
3. A pair of Charming earrings - spider and bee with beautiful cabochon. Again, the owner's wife took them for her own.

Two things I’ve missed not once but twice.
The first was an Art Deco teaset I missed out on at auction, a few years later I saw it in an Antique store but didn’t buy it….. 30 years have passed since.
The second was a HUGE amethyst geode that was a coffee table. A piece of glass over the geode. I missed it at auction once, 8 years later I missed it at auction a second time…. 15 years have past.
I will buy that darn teaset if I ever see it again, the geode, well, it weighed almost a tonne, yep, so delivery, installation and floor strength was always going to be an issue.

Wow. How many carats of amethyst is in a ton?!

So many colored stones, mostly this fabulous mahenge spinel ring that was an absolute STEAL. It would be worth three times that today.

My regret usually only lasts until the next pretty comes along :lol-2:

I do have one regret. I passed on a .85 ct Russian Alexandrite from the Ural Mountains. It was reasonably priced (wholesale) given it's size and origin. But I had spent too much money that day so instead bought 3 smaller pieces only to find out that AGL will not do an origin report for gems under half a carat. Not that I question the purchase as it came from a very reputable well known gem dealer and he had sold the larger stones from the parcel with lab reports. But a report stating origin would help if my kids every tried to sell.

A lime green sphene. I passed on it because lime green is not my favorite color but that sphene was sweet and I could have set it in something interesting.

Not yet, but there is a ring I'll probably regret not buying after someone else finally gets it. Which is why I've downloaded its pictures. Maybe one day I'll have someone recreate it.

Imagine this: a bouquet of 10 long-stemmed red field flowers. The stems are wound in a circle, like a wreath, and tied right underneath the petals with a delicate rope, thus forming the ring band. The flowers are ten ~3mm round rubies, 22k gold, a little over 5 grams. Sold by a pawn shop, so no certificate, obviously, just the honest word of their gemologist. Currently priced at a little over 800 euro.

Now is not the time for luxury expenses, though. So I'll have to see it go. Hopefully its new owner will enjoy it to the fullest.

Make them an offer in a range well within your comfort zone. Remember in any negotiation you will only get a really low price if you start with a really low offer! Pawn shops are used to negotiating, so don't think a low offer might offend them. During the negotiation try to lower their expectations by telling them everything you can think of that might be wrong with the ring. :mrgreen2: Also, if you think you are close, a cash offer might seal the deal.

Good luck, and hopefully this one won't be regret!

I couldn’t think of anything I regretted (which is scary because that means I bought everything I wanted and probably shouldn’t have) but then it hit me today what it was!

I eyed a flower basket brooch for months that had a yellow gold woven basket with a bouquet of gemstone flowers. I have seen others but this one was just perfection. The price was around $900 and I was never going to wear it. I would have enjoyed owning it though like as a little work of art. I probably have a photo somewhere. Oh well.

I found a photo! Sigh….

WOW! She is so sweet... you could have also put her on a delicate chain for a stunning pendant for Spring events.

Could have…I wish I could find it again but I think the price would be significantly higher now.

I do remember something. It was an oec in a platinum setting with emeralds. My size and $1500. The price was so good yet I hemmed and hawed and it was sold. I regret it bc it was such a good price and a pretty ring imo. I have pics but they aren’t good bc are screen shots from a video. The center was 1.5 and an M I think. It would be super hard to find something like that for that price.

I have always wanted a "flower basket," and yet never found the one that was perfect... your selection is. I've never seen a finer one (outside of an original Faberge). She is a work of art. I hope for you that you do find her again, and at a value.

It was nice to share this appreciation of "jewelry as miniature fine art" with you. Thanks for posting her.

Finished pieces too numerous to list.

But oddly this not expensive but rare Russian vanadium beryl is still haunting me. I was ready to buy but was waiting for their sale to start. I had even already designed the ring. And then it was SOLD. :(
I vow not to hesitate when something rare & affordable makes my heart flutter like that.

Now we are well into page 2 i can show you mine
its from .....
The mall jewler
but i loved it
im sure the diamonds arnt no where near PS worthy, probably pretty shi**y
It was 4k
then it got deleted and was $800 but it was at a bad time and i just couldn't do it :(2
I hope one day to find it on trade me (NZ ebay) or at cash converters- but i have stubby fat fingers so the likelihood of finding it in a bigger size ...
Maybe its destined to be the one that got away.

Daisys and Diamonds, rose gold and size what? Do you know who made it? Maybe one will show up on ebay here in the US. I think it's a beautiful ring.

When I first started looking at gems in 2012 (holy figs has it been that long??), I hesitated and missed out on a >1ct pear cut tsav that had the PERFECT color. Why? Bc it was over $300, which it felt like too much $ at the time. Now I laugh. And cry.

I am the same! Always feeling wounded to the utmost until the next shiny pretty catches my eye… CB19A7EF-64FC-44F2-9965-982AF712E3E0.jpeg

Oh! I have another one. It was a ring setting with leafy/marquise-shaped details on the shank. I think it was @athenaworth who had it listed on preloved? Anyways, I didn't pull the trigger at the time for reasons. Now it's still one of my inspo pics for my "holy grail" setting.

ETA: Ha! Found it. I still have the link bookmarked:

awww, I miss that one. I think that was one of the pieces that wound up being stolen in 2015. :(2

Oh that’s funny because I had a ring made by David Klass that resembles that one! I love it but I have been thinking I want to set the spinel into a halo so I might consider selling the setting it at some point or replacing the stone with another one.

Advice noted and duly stored in memory cache! Thanks! ::) But I did decide against it, even though I considered it for a couple of days. What I'll do instead is I'll put aside the money I would've spent on it. If things in the world go south, I'll have access to the funds. And if everything stabilises, I'll put them towards purchasing a bigger ruby and making a custom ring with it.

Or, you know, maybe I'll just win the lottery next week and have all my issues solved.

Thank you
it did look beautiful on under the mall lights
its a Micheal Hill mall ring
Sigh
Im sure many 100s were sold here in NZ

I have seen one turn up on trade me but it was when it was still available in the shops - it was listed by a crash converters (like a pawn shop)

maybe one day i could have a look-a-like made but with better diamonds

I think my nose print is probably still on the shop window from several years of looking at it

Edit
I have small but fat budgy fingers
Mind you now its Autumn they are just pydgy again not fat
I think like a p or bigger for ring finger
like a 58 maybe ?
Im sure it could be sized one size ok either way

I did a search for Michael Hill Jewelry and saw pretty unfavorable reviews on both quality and price. I think Levian has some similar designs, will keep my eye out, not that they're a favorite here. Your idea of making your own with hand-picked diamonds is the best option. You would have a one-off.

I have a few that haunt my dreams that I don’t even like to think about including a 10mm square mehenge spinel and a 10ct chrysoberyl

A few years back. Unisex YG ring with a small E/W-set jadeite navette that was almost Imperial (aren't they all, though? ). It fit both our hands. We played it cool in the shop but on the drive home we both said, "Wasn't that amazing?" and a great price and we should get it. But it sold right after we left...

I have a pretty short memory for the "ones that got away" but I remember this one and sneak a peek at her photo on my phone when no one is looking :cool2:
