This is a random question, but when removing a stone from a semi bezel, does either the stone or the ring have to get, well, destroyed to preserve one or the other?
hey Freke--to answer your question, I have had one of my semi bezel reset mount preserved when Sholdt took out my diamond from the setting and placed it in their setting, then I sent off my semi bezel mount to Michael E which he cut a gemstone for and repaired the bezel. It really depends on the the benchman on how they cut the stone out of there. I had one jeweler just destroyed the bezel head of another mount and that went to scrap. I need to still post pictures of the semi bezel ring that Michael E repaired then sold. I also asked Sholt if they could replace my diamond with another stone if I should ever wanted to upgrade my diamond again and they said it wasn't a problem, so in summary, really depends on how the stone was removed. Sholdt cut the bottom of my ring and the semi bezel looked incredibly intacted, whereas another jeweler just cut away near the diamond

I think or the other Sholdt listed above could really be it. Neither of them make me feel panicky...at least not yet.

I agree. I think a version of the Bondanza would look stunning with your sapphire as the center stone.

Freke or anyone out there feel like photo shopping for me? This setting with my stone. Pretty please? This is a diamond version of my fav plain Sholdt.

ETA-this is the only picture I can find of it (well actually D&T found this). The only other pic I've seen was a huge one on their site.
here is my horrible paint job...lol

Thanks D&T. I was just wondering about this because I happened to notice that one of my stones was chipped, and since it''s prong set I''m not too concerned about the stone or the setting. But because I''ve been spending so much time thinking about semi-bezels lately (due to this thread), and I don''t remember this being asked before. I know that bezels usually require the stone to get destroyed to preserve the setting or destroy the setting to preserve the stone. So I was wondering if the same was for semi-bezels.

That is fantastic D&T! Thanks! I really really like them both.

I really, really love that last one D&T posted. I think that would make a really gorgeous engagement ring. I love the amount of diamonds in the setting and your stone is beautiful! I also adore the bit of style added by the milgrain.

I saw that setting in person yesterday and it is way more beautiful than the pictures look. It was delicate and where the bezel looks thick there it looked very refined in person. It is a very feminine dainty ring in person. It seems all the Sholdts look much more delicate irl than they do online!

So, did you decide? You promised you''d let us know today!!

I did huh? Well maybe I wanna keep it a secret so I can have this grand unveiling when I finally get it! LOL.
