Allright, who wants to tell me who to quote multiple people in the response box? Little help? Pretty Please with a cherry on top?

Matatora, you are going to adore your Whiteflash ES stone. I have one and it is simply divine. You are not going to believe your eyes when you see your ring, it''s going to be stunning.

Mat I am so excited for you and can''t wait for you to get it!!! Hooray!!! It is going to be AWESOME!

JD- I am so excited! I cannot wait to see how it looks when it all comes together.

FireGoddess- Aww that is so nice! I am afriad he will make me wait, some nonsense about how patience is a virtue.

Widget- I offered to link V this thread...he took a pass. I wonder if we could convince him to post hand shots on his fingers, his pinky might be small enough.

ChargerGrrl- I just saw your thread too! You must be soo happy right now! I am hoping for Girl Soon.

LLL- Is it amazing how much you can see from a wax...though I really think now that it is an awful tease! I want to see it now! I want to know how the ring feels on my hand and all that good stuff!

MMM- I am really excited about the stone, I left the final decision to Jeffrey and I think he did a fantastic job! He really is quite brilliant!
emotion-15.gif
Do you want me to try and repost the picture of the wax? I am sorry you can't see it! I played with it the other day and took one of them and tried to make it look like Jeffrey.

Ame- I am soo glad you like it! You really convinced me that half eternity makes more sense for those of us who are rough on our hands!

Danacara- He he! Too funny! Perhaps he will do it by the fainting couches...I am so nervous and wound up about this, it is madness.
9.gif
And fun.

It is so nice that I am not the only one getting all keyed up about this ring! I think now he is more focused mon making sure it is a quality piece that the proposal is us....which hopefully means at home and funny in some way but ya never know!

I hope my ring is half as lovely as yours...I have spent a fair amount of time drooling over the photos you posted.

I wish I had an update now...I know the ring is supposed to be finished tommorow! Is that just amazing? It is forever and so soon at the same time. I am so curious about how the head will end up looking... the only hand constructe heads I have seen are the wire basket ones from Facets and I dont think this is at all the same...

I cannot WAIT to see pics!!! I think that diamond is gonna look huge! I hope he doesn''t wait too long!

Sadly in the world of Pricescope I have large fingers (though according to the jewelry stores I am the national average) a size six. For most of my life this has been nice becuase the smallest my fingers get is a 5 3/4. I hope it looks like a good size, as I dont ever plan on upgrading, the sentimental value of having that be where were are and 30 years from now a symbol of where we were is just too much.
face16.gif
Aw geez...finals are making me sappy.

It''s ok..finals are making me sappy too. Actually my personal statement for grad school was making me teary! eek.

Your ring design looks beautiful; hope it comes soon! Mine is doing the same song and dance with "oh no, you can HELP but you can''t see/wear the final until the big moment"

what''re you studying?

I have a size 6 finger also, so I totally understand what you mean. I think that''ll be a size that you can happily live with your entire life together. I always told myself that, with a size 6 finger, I could be happy with anything above 1.5 carats. Of course, I''d accept anything that would mean we got to spend the rest of our lives together, but my ideal was always 1.5 or above. My bigger concern is how much my ring size changes. It sounds like yours is relatively stable, but if I lose even 10 or 15 lbs, my ring size is down to a 5.5. I hate to think what it''ll be if I gain 10 or 15! haha.

Besides, I see women older than me all the time with small (<1 carat) diamonds, and they look beautiful on them! It''s the way they act about them and the way they wear them. If I had a .5 carat stone on my finger, I''d still be proud to wear it, and people can tell how you feel. So, I have no doubt that your 1.7 will still look gorgeous on you 20 or 40 years from now!

Pyschology! And I am trying to work on my personal statements/essays as well! How about you? Where are you going now? Applying?

Mat,
I think your ring is TDF! I don''t know what its like at your college, but I got engaged before I was a senior. I was the first of my friends to get engaged and it was pretty fun being first and getting all the attention! My stone is just over a carat. People, including myself, could;t believe how big it was, and yours is a lot bigger than mine! I think you''ll find that the PS world is a lot different (much classier and bigger rocks) than the world outside of PS. I like your philosophy about the symbolism and not upgrading. My then bf thought I was crazy, but I told him if he got me over a carat I wouldn'' t want to upgrade but if it was smaller I probably would. He got me the 1.13 and I tell you it looked huge at the time. Shrinkage has set in but I am still thrilled every time I look at it, more than 5 years later and I have not thought seriously about upgrading the diamond and I don''t think I will.
Good luck on finals and applications! I am in grad school and have finals too - but pricescope is so much more interesting than studying! LOL
Gail

To go down that .25 size I have to lose about 40lbs from where I am now. I want to be as psychologist and counsel people so I don’t figure jewelry is going to be vital in my professional life. Though I do think it can alter people’s perceptions of you in certain career fields. I think my weight will probably affect things more.
I am thrilled with how big the stone is, we choose to have Jeffrey pay back all of his student loans first feeling that being debt free was a better choice then me have a large sparkly diamond. So I always thought that I would be getting something around the half carat mark, or maybe smaller. V and I are incredibly blessed, and I feel amazed that he is going to propose with such a divine ring. It is so much more then I ever would have hoped for. Just thinking about him asking me to be his wife makes me get all choked up.

Comparative Lit, Arabic and French. Trying to get into haaaaavad, berkeley, penn, nyu and columbia so I will have some choices next year with the boy wanting med school or possibley consulting. I''ve also applied for a fulbright to morocco...*crosses fingers*

I''m also a size six finger--and the thing is people always talk about how skinny my fingers are!! Maybe I just have small knuckles or something, but it is odd.

is he a bit older than you then? I''m lucky in that *I* am the one with the loans, but after med school next year...well, loans out the wazoo for the FI. Going with a sapphire though, so that helps things a bit in that area.

I LOVE diamonds though :-) Sometimes I so completely hate my conscience!

Of my close friends none of them are engaged actually at this moment none of them are even going steady with anyone. But most of the girls that I run with here are sporting some major rocks…though not many are ideal cut. A few have HOF rings or rings from major stores like Tiffany’s.
A lot of girls have told me in the last year that I was never going to be engaged to V and that I ought to let it go. Bless the lovely greek girls at the University of Alabama who all got huge rocks from boys they had been dating for less time. To be honest I don’t know that I could carry off the rings some of these girls do. It looks a bit funny sometimes to see someone in sweatpants flip flops a tank top and pearls with a massive ring. Ah I love it here! I am going to miss it badly….everyone pray I get into Baylor.
I think the ring is going to be the perfect size…because it is the one that V is giving to me. I think a 1.13 sounds fantastic as well, and I can see what you mean somehow the one carat mark has come to mean something, though I am not sure what. Best of Luck on your finals, what degree are you seeking?

Actually he is a tiny bit younger then I am, four days. He is an engineer though and his university has them go on 9 month internships while they are in school. He saved wisely and had scholarships as well and was able to use that money to pay off his loans. His last internship which just finished around Thanksgiving was mostly put toward my engagement ring.

Where do you want to live where you are older, do you want to stay in the academic world and be a professor?

Its going to be gorgeous!!!! You need to keep your hands manicured regularly! Oh and my ring size is bigger than yours! I can''t wait to see the hand shots!

I know what you mean about the sorority girls in their pearls with their big rocks... and sweatpants! Now that I am at UNC I see a lot of the same. To be honest I''m not sure I could have handled all the pressure to be super thin and beautiful and made up at all times while I was in undergrad. I went to school in the midwest (Northwestern) and loved it. Maybe it is a midwestern thing but people seemed pretty down to earth and perhaps a bit less focused on appearances than in the south (while at the same time, stylish, cultured and classy). In my circle everyone was so focused on career that most didn''t have marriage on their radar at all. Some of my circle thought I was foolish to get married and tied down so young but it was right for me and my career has still been pretty good so far. And now most of those girls are married too! My husband is a few years older and I just knew he was the one. It is almost 5 years of marriage now and it has been great! The early years are rough especially when you have school and student loans and trying to buy a house, relocate etc...
Good luck with everything! CAN''T WAIT FOR THE PROPOSAL STORY AND HANDSHOTS!

Surely you jest! I giggled over your handshots and your ring looks ginormous! What size ring do you wear?

WHAT A STONE!!!!! WHAT A RING!!!!! Oooh, Mata, I am missing so much on PS!!!! I had no idea it was happening so soon and I can''t WAIT!!!! HOORAY!!!!!!!!!

Yep, I totally want to be a professor :-)I''d like to stay in the city for right now, although eventually I want a cabin in AK and to be a hermit with my uncle who drives trucks up there.

That is very cool about your FI, I have heard of schools like that. Engineers tend to be great guys as well.

Right now I''m at UPenn...where are you doing that psych degree? Do you want to go into practice or academia?

OOooh, and a more forum-appropriate question--any hints about where or when he might ask the question?

Heh, maybe it is something about UPenn, but being in a serious relationship here--nevermind being engaged--is like being a two headed monster. People get all angry at you like you are throwing your life away. So no sorority girls with diamonds...just 500 dollar shoes with their sweatpants and the like...daddy contributes a lot of moolah up here.

Matatora, are you from Alabama?! I went to high school in Birmingham and my FI was born there...I have a ton of friends at UA and Auburn and such.

I want to counsel Family Systems/Intimate Relationships...I really believe that the people we surround ourselves with have the most impact on our lives, more so then perhaps anything/anyone else. But I would be happy being a professor at a small university, not much interest in research though. Shame on me!

He is a great guy, he has made my life so much brighter and happier, I am at peace when I am with him.

No hints on when he is going to ask...I think I might tweak out if he does not ask over Christmas Break. He is not giving any more hints. I have never known him to be so tight lipped! He has told me that it will not have food involved and no food before hand. He has hinted that we will be alone and in my family home. But really...we spend most of our time there because it has a theater, air hockey table, foosball table, pool table, an exercise room and all the board games. Oh and puppies! What else could we want?

I am an Air Force brat so I have lived all over, I went high school in NJ but have also lived in two places in GA, four in TX, VA, MD and DC. But I love the south, and not just becuase I hate the cold.

I know how it is up there...every area has its own language of snobbery, but all are amusing. Not that I should talk...but I promise my pin is well hidden in my jewlery box.

It is amazing to me how the ones who declare that marriage is silly are always the ones who are engaged six weeks later.
20.gif

I am applying to Aurburn as well but my number choice/hope is Baylor!

not to steal Mat''s thread, but I am in Philly too, rainbowtrout! I go to med school at Jeff, but (cross my fingers) want to do my residency at UPenn/CHOP. FI and I are pretty happy here so far and we think we might like to stay for my residency. But it was the same sort of deal at my undergrad- no one was in a serious relationship! In fact, I would really say my friends discouraged it too. But I think people that are in more into academics generally tend to marry later in general anyway. I will be by far, the first of my friends to marry at 26!
