FK, traditonally Black/ white is a huge nono for most Asians, for happy occasions. Shades of red/ pink was the way to go. BRIGHT RED in fact!!!
However, since you are in America going to a non-traditional Chinese wedding, your black dress combo looks and sounds absolutely appropriate, just remember to brighten it up with the right girly accessories. /idealbb/editor/cute/images/emthup.gif
hmmm....i wonder how the cupcake dress looks on? it does look nice and fitted and flowy (and also so very rosey!) i''m certain you could find matching shoes. the black dress (and shoes) is awesome, of course. still, my only hesitation with the black, is that it''s a spring wedding in the afternoon. if perchance it''s late afternoon, i think you''re good to go. if it''s early afternoon, it just think it looks like you''re wearing the only dress you have.
that''s just my (admittedly flawed) thinking.....so please feel free to disregard it without hesitation!!!
the very most important thing is that you feel comfortable with what you are wearing. put them both on (a few times
haha.. i knew you guys would hesitate on the cupcake dress. It looks so tacky in the picture!!!
It''s not so rosy in real life... the colors are much more subtle! And it does look fantastic on... and hides whatever food belly I might develop. I''m gonna go shopping again this weekend to see if I can find anything. I''m 5''2 so nothing fits, everything has to be altered, and it''s just a pain in the butt. Maybe I should go to the kids'' department....
i vote for black! i find black to be less obvious than brighter florals when mingling in crowds....but i have done both so who knows.
what about a pashmina shawl in a soft pink or a mint green to go with the black dress? i also agree black shoes will look best with the dress/shawl combo, i am never a fan of matching shoes to tops though i did do the matching sock and top combos back in the EIGHTIES!!!
also i have seen some shawl/top things that go on like a cardigan sweater around, what about checking in Nordstroms Savvy or TBD dept? they always have some cute trendy items that aren''t too exp.
No more headache! I found a green dress that is perfect! Now all i need is a pair of nude/tan shoes, some new green gemstone dangling earrings, and i'm set!!
So glad you found a dress that works for you!! Let''s see the pic
I know I''m a bit late on this post, but although I don''t know what is appropriate for an Asian wedding, I do know what works on a boat in Newport. I grew up there, spent every summer sailing in that bay, and have attended more weddings than I can count. Black dress with strappy heels (as long as they are not too slippery) would have been perfectly appropriate, but I do think that you will have more fun wearing a color.
fortekitty,
i think the dress you picked is just perfect.....it''s colorful, light and flowy and all things spring! the cut looks very flattering as well
