Aquamarines

This is my issue with aquas, a lot of stones' colors are really blue-topaz blue so to speak. When I think of aquas I see greenish blue.

Aquas come in a range of colours the best are darker mid blues usually from Brazil all the way down to a light sky blue and then barely there blues and greenish blues. Like all gemstones, it boils down to personal preference.

Edit: Also, wanted to state that I love all the pictures being shared of everyones’ lovely aquas.

Thank you so much!! You’ve inspired me to wear these tomorrow since they don’t get worn enough.
My mom (who has passed on her love of jewelry) tells me to WEAR YOUR GOOD STUFF. She is adamant. Life is way too short. She says you can pass it on when you go...and wouldn't it be nice that whoever gets it remembers it being worn and loved by the one who passed it on. :) She's 100% right. Wear those aquas! :)

Just GORGEOUS. I also love all these beautiful aquas. They are my favorite gem and lucky for me this year is my 19th wedding anniversary which has aquamarine as its wedding anniversary stone. Happy dancing and lots of internet surfing. Hubby gives me lots of side eye and an occasional sigh as I online search through pages and pages of aquas, new designs, old designs, vintage pieces, modern mixes, gemstone forums (ps!) and every single etsy jeweler. Ok, not every single one, but a lot of them. Thanks everyone for sharing your beautiful jewelry. They are inspirational!

Wearing my aquamarine ring today that my mother passed down to me<3
She purchased it from an estate sale for only a couple hundred dollars and was told that the stone was probably glass, then later out of sheer intuition my mother decided to have it appraised and lo and behold its natural.
Its very dear to me.

Aquamarine is such a special stone- I personally believe that there is nothing like it.
I am in love with its brother Emerald brother also!

From the mossy blue-green swampy witch aquamarine that holds oceanic power to the clearest of blues that are most precise and invoke calming feelings of running water frozen in time....I love them all.
They truly remind me of tears also; happy ones that create strong feelings of accepting what is unchangeable in life.

Plus they are my fiances birthstone! :kiss2:

That ring is yummy. It reminds me of vintage Hollywood. Its gorgeous!

Ooo, I can play!

I only have one Aqua ring at present, the stone was from JD and the setting was inexpensive

I have more non-EC Aquas from JD, however none of them have been set as I decided I prefer EC cut for Aquas.

This one is from JW, and I am hoping to have it set next year (inspiration ring pic attached) with the Morganite traps that he had cut for me (pic attached). Don't have the spec to hand, however it is about 6ct.

I prefer my Aquas pale with a hint of green. This one was unseen, not even the rough - I just said yes to Jeff's description what he thought the finished stone would look like, size and colour wise and said yes.

DK :))

BEAUTIFUL additions everyone!

This JW aqua is one of my absolute favorite gems on PS and it was my inspiration for my own JW aqua. However mine came out more blue and not greenish as I had hoped. I can not wait to see these gems set! Is it to early to call dibs?! haha :lol-2:

None are the sea foam green I keep looking for! It’s also impossible for my clumsy self to get them all to sit just right at the same time so there are tilt windows. All are precision cut. Also, every room in my apt has different types of lights but none are great for gems. It is around midnight when I took these pictures so no access to sunlight either. Definitely not showing the aquas to their best potential...

I really love the setting that you chose. It works so nicely with your aqua. Very elegant.

I keep getting drawn to the darkest one. Very pretty!

I will NEVER find an aqua I love this much.

**audible gaspl** whispers softly under her breath 'it's gorgeous'......
That is my favorite kind of aqua...lighter in color and slightly icy. Its gorgeous! Lucky little sister. :)

mellowyellowgirl, buy sis another Aqua; this one is yours.

@GardenLady21 it's a very Elsa from frozen kind of blue with a dash of green.

@marymm I didn't tell her I was getting her an aqua. She actually needs a green ring and we've been looking for green stones. I could give her my already set peridot which I know would be a welcome edition to her collection. I guess I just feel bad because this was intended for her but I've been wanting an aqua and this is my perfect stone in all goodness.

I feel like a crappy sister.

@mellowyellowgirl maybe give her a choice between the two, and emphasize that you’d like the aqua for yourself?

I love this aqua! I think giving her a choice would be good. Then if she chooses the peridot(s) you can wear the aqua with glee. :)

Hehe I hope I don't get struck by lightening for this. I sent her a text asking about gems in general.

Response: I would never say no to any gem or jewellery sis. I'd love another pink one day.

So I'm thinking of offering up:

Purple pink spinel ring, peridot ring and a pink tourmaline for her to pick. I keep mum about the aqua. I'm also taking her to a fancy dinner and bought her a dress already.

Aqua with the spinel ring on offer because this is the aqua thread

This aqua is meant to be yours! Your sister will be thrilled at the gift, especially as you are giving her a choice between two gorgeous pieces. You are so kind--and enjoy this beauty.

Got this for a song. So in love but supposed to be a present for lil sis.

I'm feeling very sad right now.

I was SO close to buying this. So glad it went to someone who loves it! And WOW it looks so much better in person. (Also, suuuper fast shipping, no?)

I very much enjoyed reading through this thread just now. Such gorgeous aquamarines. You can really appreciate the high quality shared here. Beautiful stones and gorgeous pieces. :kiss2:
I love aquamarine but I don't own any good aquamarine...maybe one day.

Pieces I have that I purchased before I knew anything about colored gemstones...purchased them because I thought they were pretty but now I realize I did not get what I paid for except for the choker aquamarine necklace.I think that is pretty decent quality and fair for the price I paid but who knows. Anyway in the case of aquamarine ring and other necklace the lesson is learned. And it's OK because despite knowing what I know I still enjoy these pieces. Except for the Rome ring as I never wear rings usually besides my ER and WB.

Got this necklace in the early 2000s I think.

Got this ring in 2004 in Rome.

Sharing older photos of this necklace as it is somewhere deep in my safe and not in the mood to search for it this morning.

And I got this necklace for my (early present) 40th so quite a while ago at our favorite estate jewelry place.

Close up to show the details. Sapphires, aquamarine and diamonds.

Now I know better and when I am ready to purchase my next aquamarine I will do better.

Not a crappy sister at all. You love this stone so much and your sister won't appreciate it the way you do. I agree with the others who say keep this aqua for yourself and get your darling sister something she would love and enjoy even more. Win win. You're a great sister for wanting to get her beautiful gems and making her happy!

Oh there are some gorgeous Aquamarines in this thread. I agree that all the colours are gorgeous.

I bought the one in my Avatar from an online auction recently.

Its not the best picture I am yet to work out how to photography my rings well

I've posted this before, but not in the Aquamarine thread. I bought this in Tuscon from John Dyer's booth. I wasn't looking for an aquamarine, just browsing, and this bad boy popped out of the case and into my hand before I knew what was happening.:eek2:

The light green and the wavy cut makes it look like flowing water.

That has to be my favorite aquamarine of all time, Suzanne! The setting is spectacular, too:-) Whenever I see your name, that piece pops into my mind, lol ;-)
