Are Mahenge garnets really this good?!

But I notice all these are filmed in full sun. @NKOTB would love to see another post of yours! I'm wondering if in office lighting Alex's would look ordinary.

Lighting makes a difference. Here’s my Mahenge garnet from Jeff White in sun and shade. I don’t have any in office lighting, but mine tends to look more “brownish” in the house. It needs bright light (sunlight) to bring out it’s best color. Mine is a darker hue though, not in the the lighter range6438FD70-D162-4949-BF11-ADE39E7C06EB.jpeg

The uniqueness of mahenge garnets is not because of the pink color, because pink garnets are found everywhere, mahenge garnets have a chrome-colored pink garnet, and this is the difference between mahenge garnets and other garnets

We know the red color of garnet comes from iron, and the iron in garnet is a fluorescent killer, so ordinary red garnet has no fluorescence, but mahenge has a pink garnet with a strong fluorescence reaction, indicating that the red color of this garnet is not derived from iron, but from chromium. Light pink garnets are found in many places, only chrome colored garnets from mahenge are unique.

Red/pink garnets have definitely increased a great deal in price recently. They do not have fluorescence like some pink/red spinels, but I do think they’ve been under appreciated next to their green cousins, for eons.

It is difficult to find ones that are not overly dark in sizes larger than two carats, from my experience.

I can be sure that some pink mahenge garnets have a red fluorescence reaction, just like spinel, this is also mahenge's pink garnet unique to other pink garnets, you know, pink garnets are found everywhere, and it is not uncommon

why Mahenge garnets are so prized?because there are chrome colored garnets from Mahenge 。Chromium-colored pink garnets are very bright compared to the usual iron-colored pink garnets

10ct+ mahenge pink garnet, pink color under natural light, red under incandescent light. It has a strong red fluorescence reaction under long-wave UV light,
The pictures are under natural light, under UV light, and mixed with natural light + incandescent light

Thank you for this explanation! I've always seen posts saying garnets don't like the sun, but mine sure does and I had no idea why. I've had it several years and don't believe I was given an origin when I purchased it.20210129_101512.jpg
