Are my new wedding bands too much for my smaller soltaire?

Hi Everyone,

I recently purchased a 0.60 True Hearts round brilliant from James Allen and had it mounted in their Tiffany style handmade solitaire setting. This is a anniversary upgrade and I know it is small by PS standards, but it is much bigger than my original e-ring and I love it in the James Allen Tiffany style setting. I have been wearing it on it's own until I could decided what type of band I wanted to pair with it. I decided on a shared prong band and went with .03 pointers. I really like the stacked band look too, so I order two bands to wear on either side of the solitaire.

The bands arrived and I do like them, but am wondering if they are completely taking over my solitaire or am I just used to seeing the solitaire on it's own, so now all I am noticing is the bands? I am also wondering if the bands look more like a ring wrap/enhancer, than the stacking band look I was going for? I really need some advice, because I am starting to over think this.

Here are pictures of the solitaire on it's own, the solitaire with one band, and the solitaire with both bands.
What do you think? Do either of these looks work, or should I start from scratch and find some more delicate bands to stack with the solitaire?

Thanks in advance!

WOW  WOW :appl: Go for both!

Re: Are my new wedding bands too much for my smaller soltair

I do think that look is kind of like wraps, so I generally prefer a band beneath the e-ring only. Those bands are set higher than your e-ring shank, making them stick out further and higher than the e-ring. So I would return them and start over. If you want to go with one band, you can go with a thin one or one a little wider. I think two does take away from your diamond.

Love the e-ring!

I think a daintier band or bands.
And your new upgrade is LOVELY
i like it all by itself....

Re: Are my new wedding bands too much for my smaller soltair

Thanks everyone for your honest opinions.
If you have any suggestions for bands that would go with the Tiffany style e-ring I would really appreciate it.
This handmade style knife edge is pretty low profile and the band narrows quite a bit at the sides. I tried it with a thin channel type band first, and that had a profile that was thicker than the e-ring too, and just didn't look right so I sent that back.
Are there any low profile bands out there that anyone knows of that would look good with my e-ring?

I think smaller profile pave bands would be more of the look you want. You may need to go try some on in person to find the right look, bands are tricky!

Congratulations on your upgrade!! I like the look of a band/bands on the bottom of the ering as opposed to on either side. I would go for lower profile band that doesn't stick out past the shank of your ering. :))

Re: Are my new wedding bands too much for my smaller soltair

As much as I hate to say it, Tiffany and Memoire sell the lowest set bands. That said, you can get lower pave bands than the ones you had. You'll just have to try some on until you find some that are not higher than the e-ring shank. Usually makers like Victor or Steven make very low pave bands, too.

Example:

http://www.tiffany.com/Shopping/Item.aspx?fromGrid=1&sku=GRP01931&mcat=148204&cid=288152&search_params=p+1-n+10000-c+288152-s+5-r+-t+-ni+1-x+-lr+-hr+-ri+-mi+-pp+2568+6&search=0&origin=browse&searchkeyword=

But they have other styles that would work as well.

Re: Are my new wedding bands too much for my smaller soltair

Thanks for the suggestions. It sounds like I should go to a few stores and try on all of the different style bands to see what looks best and has low profile. I like the Tiffany one you linked, but am too thrifty to go for that :)) . Hopefully I can find something similar out there.

Agreed. Take a look at Asscherhalo_lover's new and lovely sparklies for inspiration: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/pink-yellow-and-white-diamond-pave-bands.199249/

I was thinking the exact same thing.

Re: Are my new wedding bands too much for my smaller soltair

OK- I'm gonna vote against the prevailing tide. I LOVE the look!!!!!!!!!! - I don't see "wrap" at all. I'd like to see the rings on a finger, however. I see very very slight "stick out" on the side, but flesh is much more malleable than that blue holder. Also include profile views. I don't know if you've already returned them to start over, but I think it's a smashing look - sometimes you could wear one, sometimes 2 - sometimes both below, sometimes one on each side.

Re: Are my new wedding bands too much for my smaller soltair

To answer your question, yes, I think that the bands are too much for your solitaire. I would search for a single, dainty diamond band to be worn under the solitaire.

Re: Are my new wedding bands too much for my smaller soltair

I love the two bands but not those two bands. I would go with smaller melee and thinner.

Re: Are my new wedding bands too much for my smaller soltair

What size are your fingers? There is a pair of platinum eternity bands in size 5.25 on ebay at a fantastic price right now.

Re: Are my new wedding bands too much for my smaller soltair

CharmyPoo - My finger size is 8. I wish they were 5.25 though! I forgot to mention that one of the reasons I had originally ordered the two bands was for more finger coverage. I am tall and unfortunately have hands that match my height too.

Motownmama - I'm glad you and Lambskin both like the look. I haven't returned them yet, and I'm not sure I will be able too. I think they might have been a special order, but am not 100% sure since it wasn't mentioned. I ordered them from IDJ and she had them made for me as I specified, so they might be mine to keep. If so, that's ok and I will wear them alone or with the e-ring when I want some extra bling. I was going to take some hand shots like you suggested, but the winter has been rough on my hands and I couldn't bring myself to post them here :)) .

I still do want to get something daintier for everyday use though. I found a couple of bands from James Allen that might work.
Any opinions on these would be appreciated:

One or two of these:

One of these alone or stacked with one of the ones above:

Two of these, either both in white gold, or one in white gold and one in rose gold:

Re: Are my new wedding bands too much for my smaller soltair

I bought the band that goes with this wedding set from Shane Co last fall. I love it!

http://www.shaneco.com/Jewelry-Catalog/Design-Your-Own/Rings/Engagement-Rings/Pave/Product-Detail.aspx?X=41063640&I=48&Engagement-Ring-Type=Matching-Set&Metal=Platinum

The pave diamonds are smaller than what you posted, but it is very low profile and well made in my opinion. I can't see metal from above, and it's very delicate and all shine (In real life it looks far better than the picture posted on the website). I have a .54 diamond engagement ring in a similar setting as yours and I don't think one or two bands would overwhelm your diamond at all. You can get white gold or platinum.

Re: Are my new wedding bands too much for my smaller soltair

Whether they are too much is not a black & white concrete fact that's out there somewhere and we must discover.
It's all in my head, your head, her head, his head … and all these heads are different.

If YOU feel they are too much, then they are.
If not, then they're not.

My apologies for the threadjack, but I'm a size 5.25! Please post the link!

Back to our regularly scheduled blinging.

I like your e-ring with 1 ring, 2 overwhelms it.

If your hands are not photo-ready why not have a friend model them? I'd still like to see them on the hand and at different angles including profile.

That's a great idea! I think we can get a better idea seeing the set on someone's finger.

Re: Are my new wedding bands too much for my smaller soltair

Both of them seem amazing. I would go for both of them if I were you!
