Are we allowed to post email for now?

I noticed a for sale post here in pre-loved lists a personal email. Genuinely wondering if that rule has been lifted for now since LT is down? Anyone know?

I have some things I’m waiting to list but with LT down I have nowhere to go with them. I could put them on DB but I find it not as user friendly as LT.

TIA!

For security’s sake I would not share email. Is Diamond bistro working?

Wondering if Instagram is an alternative?

@missy DB is up and running still.

@icy_jade IG could work, I recently deleted mine so I would have to set up another account.

Admin referenced IG in another thread but was hard to tell if it was advice or rule.

Who does LT bc I’m wondering why it’s taking so long to get back up and running! Agreed that LT is much more user-friendly

I'm glad my DB account is still working. And yes, I definitely started saving my listing info on a separate doc. Ever since I lost a couple of listings before I could post them because of internet issues. Never again!!

I am pretty sure you are still not supposed to include contact information on PS. I am going nuts without LT, I guess just looking at all the beautiful jewelry was a bigger past-time than I even realized. DB just isn't the same, it's kind of dark, the pics are small, and for some reason, the shots are not very well-lit in many cases. I still check it everday tho! IG is also getting more popular for individuals selling things so I think either or both links should be good for the time being. I think you can't go wrong trying those as contacts.

We have not changed the rules. No personal contact information including emails or social media.

There are many for-sale platforms that you can avail yourselves of—Ebay, Etsy, Mercari, Diamond Bistro, etc.

I’m just going to be patient and wait for LT to come back. Heck, I waited 9 months for each of my kids, hopefully it won’t take that long ;)

@YadaYadaYada I wonder if it will ever come back. I sure hope so!! But I’d use IG or DB if I really wanted to sell now.

@YadaYadaYada Can you just post previews so we can call dibs?

Sure, I posted pictures in this thread, I will post all the specs and prices in the next day or so:

You think it might be gone for good? That would be a shame, it’s such a great selling platform. Although they do need to do something about the businesses clogging up the site. Seriously, how many black diamond rings were posted right before it went offline?!

Oh I am pretty sure it will be back! A site like that makes a LOT of money, I would think, with advertisers!

That's always been my issue. They set up the site and basically don't screen the posts. I emailed them early on. They really don't care who posts there or how many posts they make.

A reminder that we do not allow people to post social media handles here, hence IG is not a viable option for selling on Pricescope. This is for everyone's safety as we cannot monitor social media accounts to make sure they are truly private.

If you all have fab fashion jewelry to sell, check out the MoissaniteBST sub on Reddit. I can post my listing there and link it here for anyone interested. Reddit allows for DMs where buyer/seller can exchange emails.

I don't think they make as much in advertisement as people think. It was set up by a PSer who wanted to be nice, as @yssie pointed out in another thread. At the time, DB was highly unreliable and PSers didn't have a way of reaching each other. It was not set up to be their business. Screening posts and maintaining that site requires 24/7 monitoring, and at the end of the day, it was a free service for us and a thankless job for them. I wouldn't blame them at all for not bringing it back online.

Well, I will definitely miss it if it doesn’t come back.

Just thinking aloud, could we use OfferUp to post and then on this forum, we could link with a reminder to identify as a PSer so we’d know it was from this group? I have no affiliation with OfferUp other than an occasional user. OfferUp also has secure chat which is nice.

@Ella — would an alternative like this be acceptable?

Offerup and ebay both block email addresses. They've gotten good at detecting various methods. My husband just tried to buy a sports card and they couldn't figure out a way to avoid the seller fee lol.

eta: they do allow exchanges of phone numbers for some reason, but that weirds me out.

Interesting. I’m aware OfferUp blocks email addresses but I’ve never had a transaction fee when I’ve sold anything before. I just don’t do any upgrades to the posting. I wonder if the fees are location based or something.

I think he said it's 12.9%. Quick google search seems to confirm, but I didn't look into whether it's free up to a certain number or what. This is a higher volume seller.

Oh, maybe the fees kick in when you sell a certain volume of items per month or at some price point or something. bummer! I haven used it in a while — I should’ve checked. I suppose this only speaks to how much I miss LT (as if I need more help getting myself into gemstone trouble!)

Well, maybe they don't make a profit off of the advertisers. Maybe it just covers their costs for the site. But I think it is very odd that they are leaving a message that they are deploying an updated website if they have shut it down for good. Why wouldn't they have posted on LT that the site would be shut down on a certain date instead?

Having ads cover for site cost still leaves the actual monitoring/screening as unpaid labor, and I suspect it was a lot of work. Maybe they got sick of it halfway thru the revamp and decided not to come back.

I am sad tho. I liked browsing through it and got a full tray of stuff to sell.
