So hubby and I have been watching the Game Show Network''s, What''s My Line, and I couldn''t help but admire Arlene Francis'' gorgeous diamond necklace that she was wearing back in the 50s. I googled it and found out that she started the diamond heart necklace trend that continues till today. Apparently it was commissioned by Tiffany''s by her husband, Martin Gabel.

Who can find the origins of other jewelry trends started by celebrities or others?

Chris Evert Lloyd is the celebrity connected with the early 1980s "Tennis Bracelet" trend that exsists today. Before this the traditional line bracelet was only worn for dress occasions.

David Cassidy was responsible for the puka shell necklace trend that started in the early 1970s(starting in 1974) that was worn until the late seventies and then started again in mid/later 1990s....I still have/wear my 1974 strand of shells

Hence the "tennis bracelet"

That''s a great story that I''ve heard before, but forgot about!

Thanks for sharing! Very cool!

Ha! My brother had the hair and the puka shell necklace back in the 70''s trying to emulate David Cassidy. I think he would be really embarassed if I brought that up to him now.

I know the the Princess Diana sapphire e-ring has been emulated all over the place. It''s a classic.

Sex and the City brought back the lust for assher cuts as well.

How about the "tin cup" pearl necklace? It''s a very nice style, but seems to have been a fairly short-lived trend.

Do Jackie O''s sunglasses count?

Funny you should mention the Tin Cup necklace! I bought my mom one of those soon after she saw the movie. I think the necklace has an elegant, timeless beauty to it. It is very similar to the Diamond By the Yard necklaces that are all the rage today.

I just gave one to my neice, she loves it!! Timeless and classic.

The Robert Indiana "love" logo used for the "Love Story" movie ["Love means never having to say you're sorry"] spawned rings with "LOVE: spelled out across the top that were popular for many years. My father gave one to my mother that had a tiny diamond nestled in the "O" -- it was her first diamond. I never saw the movie so I don't know whether Ali McGraw's character actually wore a ring like that, but I doubt it.

I'm surprised I can't find a good picture of one of these rings, since it seems they were everywhere in the 70's. The ones I remember were kinda like this:
