Hi Greg,

I have to say I absolutely love this ring! Thanks for sharing the pictures and your journey!

I actually thought I had joined PS years ago when I was researching an engagement ring, but either I have completely misplaced my login details or I just never signed up.
Anyway, I'm in the process of researching my wedding ring and would love to get some sort of variation of yours. It won't be the same but I like how you have the bit of 'security' under the diamond to make sure it doesn't slip out.

May I ask which jeweller you had used on the Aussie East Coast? I did want to private message you but unfortunately this is not possible.

I'd love to discuss this with a local jeweller but have no idea where to find a good one, so would really appreciate if you could point me in the right direction.

Likewise, if anyone know of a US jeweller who is able to create a similar piece of art then I'd love to hear about it!

Thanks so much!

Hi there Klacka,

Thank you for your comments.

I can be contacted through the following listing on loupe troop below. However, i will answer some of the questions that you have raised and also give you my review on this ring setting after 4years.
https://loupetroop.com/listings/rings-natural-diamond-center/gents-oec-ps-nw-gtg

The jeweller i worked with is Diamond specialist in Sydney. Joey is the Sales associate. She is pretty good. They have offices in Melbourne and brisbane. It has been a while since i spoke with her. They have also completed my carre eternity band which compliments the asscher semi tension setting.

This semi- tension setting can be replicated by most jewellers, i think. In USA, the one comes to mind is: Diamonds by Lauren, David is the man to speak to. He has a setting like this on his site under mens jewellry. i have linked it here for you.
http://www.diamondsbylauren.com/index.php/jewelry/diamond-ring-40ct-y-z-i1-emerald-cut-gents-diamond-ring-r6003

of course, you can have it in any material that you like. i recently had an ID bracelet made by his bench= the metal is just silky smooth. granted it isnt a semi tension set ring, but i would believe that David will do right by you.

if i had my time again, i would consider a true tension setting for my asscher. Why= ease of cleaning and the amount of light that enters and therefore reflected = brightness of the stone. With this semi tension setting, it does collect dirt easily, esp around the bar area. So, cleaning of the rings is a daily/ weekly thing. this will ensure that the diamond sparkles.

i have seen a melbourne company that does tension settings advertise on the QF inflight magazine. unfortunately, they dont set outside stones. :-(

I think dollar value wise= taking into consideration the exchange rate, the taxes (GST) that you will be paying for the ring and diamond, USA is the place to go. However, totally get it that you prefer to work with a vendor in AUS. Nothing wrong with that.

For a true tension setting, vendors in USA: Steven Kretchmer, Glen Abaci, Boone rings ( deals in non precious metals = more bang for your buck) and there is another vendor on the tip of my tongue that i forget. buT i am hoping that Kenny or Dancing Fire might chip in as they have rings made by some of the vendors mentioned. as i alluded to before: true tension setting makes it so much easier to clean the diamond. Also with that bar under the stone, it can also interfere with the light entering the pavilion/ under surface of the diamond. you can see the interference with light entering the diamond in several of my close ups. The interference i refer to comes out as a black square. so, if that bar is eliminated= true tension setting, then there would not be that black square. admittedly it is a close up. after the ring is cleaned, there is less of that black colour. :-)

Also search under kenny's avatar.. there are lists of his post and threads. He is the man to talk about tension setting of rings!!!

These tension setting vendors know their stuff and would make sure that their product is well serviced. I know it is a mind set thing about having that bar under the ring for security; however, i would seriously consider a tension setting now that i have lived with my setting for 4yrs now.

hit me with an email if you need more information. Happy to help where i can.

That is a great looking ring! The stone looks gorgeous! :appl:

Thanx crystal24k!!!

Glad this got bumped so I could enjoy this handsome ring on the finger it was meant to be on.

Thanx lovesvintage.....

yes, i still love it.

Hi Greg,

sorry, I didn't realise that you answered so quickly, and I have been away for a while as well.

That's a hell of a lot of info in your post there, thank you so much!
You are right when it comes to getting work done in the US, I actually did that for my fiance's engagement ring and came out well in front. I had a local jeweller have a really good look at it and he said that there is no way that he could have done it for that price.

Anyway, I'm in contact with a jeweller in the US now, still not clear on a design but we're getting there.
Thanks so much for your help, I really appreciate you taking the time.

Not a problem...

of course, what this means is that you need to post updated ring design and ring. We PSers wanna look!!!! well, oogle!

@gregchang35 I love this ring soo much! I know in an older thread you were inspired by Kenny’s Asscher, and I’m inspired my yours. I like how the band is the exact mm to the stone. Do you have a photo from a distance (instead of a zoomed in photo) I would love to see the proportions on your hand! May I use your ring for inspiration to make an asscher band?

YEEESSS! WHOA! o_O:cry2:=)2

(too tired to ramble - delignted to see)

I love this style and am looking into getting something similar made with a 6x5 August vintage emerald cut.

That sounds amazing! I think I found my happy medium. I’m going to go for a 1.5carat asscher in rose gold because my round diamond is in plat and will look too similar. That will make the band 6.25mm. I think anything higher will make the band too wide for my personal preference.
