Avg cost for cleaning/sizing/setting?

Hi Everyone,

I have yet to find a local jeweler that I feel comfortable with. I am in Arizona (so if anyone has a jeweler, please let me know). I have been sending my pieces back to CA/CO/IL for cleaning/tightening but it is expensive and I always worry about the mail system.

I did go to three places a few months ago for other reasons (to find sapphires for custom work I wanted - see other thread) but I ended up not feeling comfortable with them to also do my cleaning/sizing/tightening.

I previously have bought all my pieces already made/set/sized. But now want custom pieces made and have bought a few pieces online that need sizing. I also need other pieces cleaned/tightened.

My question is - is there an AVERAGE cost to get a ring:
1) sized (mainly platinum with some white gold)
2) cleaned/polished/tighten pave (just want a generic cleaning/tightening of rings, some with pave)
3) loose stone set (have loose stone, have platinum mounting, need round loose stone set)

Ideally, I would like to find a local jeweler to do all my work including custom work but for now would settle on someone just to clean/tighten and size my rings. I went to a few other places and the cost was WAY more than I anticipated. Some was more to get a ring sized than what I paid for the ring! Just wondering if there is an AVERAGE cost, if I am getting ripped off, or if my idea of cost was way off. I don''t mind paying for good workmanship at all and I realize many factors can go into these services.

No clue about the avg., but here''s what I pay at a local jeweler [not a chain] in the Midwest:

Sizing: $25 [as long as it''s not a drastic size change]
Setting: $30 for white gold; $50-60 for platinum
Cleaning: free

1) Cost me $100 to have plat resized. I''m in FL though. Havent had the other 2 things done so cant help you there.

Where in Arizona? You might want to start a new thread asking for a recommendation for a local jeweler and include the town in the title. We’ve got Pricescopers all over the place, possibly including your neighbors.

I''m in AZ, and have a great local jeweler I use for repair work. Their items for sale are all way overpriced, but the bench work is done in-house and the prices are very fair. I don''t know what side of town you''re on, but they might be worth a try:

I''ve had several rings sized, gems set, and even had them order a Stuller mounting and set a cracked diamond in it with no problems.

As for prices, as far as I remeber I paid about $25-30 for gold ring resizing, $25-$40 for stones mounted in gold, and $60 for platinum. In November they sized a ring for me from a 7.5 to a 5.5 and mounted a 1/2ct diamond in it for about $80 total.

Let me see if I can remember what I have had done recently.

Stone mounted, no other work done: free
WG sized up one or two sizes: $20ish
Platinum ring, prongs completely rebuilt and the ring sized down: $80
