On another note...I had to do the same thing with Discover. Had been with them for a long time and when I had a problem with a purchase they wouldn't stand behind me. I immediately took my business elsewhere

May I suggest if you are looking for a fantastic card where they always stand behind you American Express. They do have an annual fee which totally sucks BUT their dispute policy and customer service are worth every penny we pay for that card. I cannot say enough good things about them. I do have mastercard/visa as well but I mostly use amex because I feel safe knowing my purchases and interests are protected with them

Good luck!

Just back from the AGS conclave meeting in Orlando.

I am really happy this was able to be brought to a viable solution. I don''t deserve all the credit though.

The store involved is one that does care about things being right and one of the organizations of which they are members deserve credit for this happening too.

Be aware that not ALL of the jewelers in the caribbean are this cooperative, but in this matter it just worked out well for everyone.

I might add that just the representation of the seller ( whether an internet seller or a b&m store) is all that should be paid attention to when buying a diamond or any other piece of jewelry or colored stone. What is far more important is that you learn exactly what you want, and that the item you are purchasing is exactly that. No reduction in price, or perceived bargain is worth buying something that is an EXCUSE for what you really want. To me, that is far more important than the "deal" or that the item is represented correctly.

I appreciate the Kudos, from all who posted them, but in this case a little "nudging" resulted in resolving the matter really painlessly. This doesn''t always happen so easily, and again, the seller and the others involved cooperated well without being litigous.

While some of the cases regarding problems end up being complex and troublesome, as well as becoming very publicized, I have settled a lot of these matters without going so far.

For those reading this, it really isn''t the best idea to attempt to resolve this yourself. Get professional help. It is of course true that in some situations there can be some costs involved for those merchants who are "stubborn" - but it generally works out much better in the end.

Congrats! Thanks RocDoc for taking time to help out.

And lurkers, don't be shy. Join and ask your questions. This board's awesome. Those cruise "deals" in the Carib are basically ripoffs and just a moneymaking machine for the cruise lines. In the age of the internet, there's no reason to go down there to look for deals. Their presentations are quite good and I prolly would have been tempted when I went down there on my honeymoon cruise except I had been educated by PS while shopping for the e-ring. We did end up checking out the diamonds just to see what the deals were like. Grand Cayman and Ocho Rios' stores SUCKED! If they had good stuff, it was expensive (might as well buy it in America). The cheap stuff was crap. Luckily, it was thanks to my PS education that I could tell they were crap.

I agree with the Amex recommendation. I've had to dispute things before and Amex clearly has the best CS. They're even famous for it on bargain sites like Fatwallet.com. I've had good experiences with Visa/MC, but that's cuz it was a platinum card. My low limit Amex Blue card gave me just as good CS as my platinum Visa (the CS person specifically mentioned they were giving me the benefit of the doubt since they could see I charged a lot with it so I was a good customer). Discover does kinda suck in CS and I only keep it around cuz I've had them the longest and don't wanna screw up my credit right now. Amex doesn't necessarily have annual fees. I have a Blue Cash card and the Costco True Earnings one. Both don't have annual fees and I use them for big ticket items in case I need CS support later.
