Best chain length for wearing rectangular pendants?

I’m 5’11”, 165lbs with an athletic physique (mostly broad shoulders and big arms, but not very large neck. My neck measures at 16”.


I’m currently in the market for a 3.5mm Franco chain to pair with a jade pendant (shown on my profile). The pendant is about 2.5” in length and 1.5” width.

Usually as a solitaire chain I prefer a 22”, but considering the dimensions of the pendant I’m thinking a 20” would showcase it better. I don’t like chokers by any means but I’m kinda curious about experimenting wearing a shorter chain.

How about getting a 20in chain then add an extender?

I have a 16in chain and wear it with a 2in extender chain with big links, which means I can vary the overall length from 16in to 18in depending on the pendant and neckline of the outfit.

I found my extender chain on Etsy, and longer ones are also available.
