I love Ilya! Working on a project with him now and he is amazing to work with- I love working directly like that. Your ring looks like it's going to be beautiful!

Ditto! Nice people and beautiful design!!!

Okay. back to your stone. Cut is THE most important factor in the beauty of a stone. It doesn't matter if it is D IF if it has a cut that is not great. I'd never pay for super high cut and clarity without also having an outstanding cut. An F VS1 is going to look every bit as good as this one in terms of visible color and clarity, and it could look much better if it was cut better. If you need high color and clarity, I would expand the search down to F VS1, which is still considered very high color and clarity, and get a better cut stone.

I'd like to see the JA page with the photo of your stone and the ASET image if you asked for one. I am thinking you may need to start over on the diamond. You can tell some about a diamond from the photo, but you need an ASET image on any fancy cut stone to have an idea of the light return and leakage.

DS, I agree with what you are saying here; cut IS the single most important factor in all diamonds in my opinion. Even if not the majority opinion, I think this is true in the case of fancy colors too as great cut there will lead to even color and great light return. In colorless stones it is extremely important. Color is subjective and as many here may already know I do love icey high whites but clarity IMHO is far less important, there are many lower clarity grades still resulting in eye clean stones but this must be assessed on an individual basis. Thanks Julie I will also look at the link you posted.

Thank you everyone for help and input!!

I did look at the stone last night and for what it is worth, when I look at it under "normal" light - a room with traditional indoor lighting - there is no dark spot at all. When we had a halogen desk lap and put it under that though, there was a dark spot.

If I am understanding correctly, that is a good sign? Just as a recap, in normal daylight I didn't see a spot, in traditional indoor lighting there was no dark spot, and in bright spot lighting (halogen) there was a dark spot.

As for settings, I still love the Knox Jewelers example and now...(I'm sorry Niel!!) I really like CVD's most recent FB post.

(edited for typos... it's late...)

I've just had David Klass make me a custom platinum vintage style ring. I don't have the ring yet but here is a couple of pictures so you can see his work. This setting cost me half what I was quoted by a PS vendor. He is super easy to work with.

Wow, Maisie, that is gorgeous!!!!

I am going to try him for something eventually. I am just not willing to pay the inflated prices some are charging.

You will definitely be pleased with David's prices. I can't afford to pay the prices that my usual vendor charges. Which is a shame after years of working with them.

Haha why apologize? Are you going to ask her to replicate it?

It looks even better now with the tweaks. I'm still holding off posting photos as I prefer my own photos to represent my jewelry on here. But the adjustments were killer. And she is a breeze to work with.

Niel, I am not sure if I'll ask her to replicate yours but I'll admit that most settings I will like but not love - that one looked beautiful and I loved it. I can't wait to see the adjustments you made and the final result! :)

If you did I wouldn't mind a bit ::)

So first question is to Niel.. is your ring done yet? I am dying to see the results! (Also, yes I may also be considering being the second person to use that design :cheeky: ).

Second, I found a setting that is super close to the Knox setting that started the thread. They are saying it is a round cut head shape, but I am hoping maybe they can do it with my stone (95% we are keeping it). Thoughts?

Also, the page says diamond quality of the side stones are "D3" .. I haven't heard that before. Is anyone familiar with what that means?

I don't know but it is on the list now!

I think choosing a setting may take a long time...

The Gabriel setting is very pretty. Whoever you are buying it from can call Gabriel and ask about setting your specific stone.

I went out to look at some of the settings from SimonG, Gabriel and BeverleyK that have been suggested and ended up falling for a setting that is happy mix of classic and slightly vintage (I hope). It is made by Parade (any feedback on designer quality?). It is set in a way that showcases the center stone, which I really like. I'm a big jewelry person though so saving all of these jewelers' names for my dream lust of future projects! Thank you everyone and any feedback is of course welcome!

My, now, fiancee proposed with the most beautiful engagement ring! Knowing that I loved the look of beautiful detailed vintage rings, he spent the time to find a jeweller who could create a vintage inspired piece and settled on Larsen Jewellery - http://www.larsenjewellery.com.au . They did the most amazing job - I can't wait to go back and get our wedding rings!!

Welcome MsWillows! Looks like you are new so welcome! Maybe you could post some pics on Show Me the Bling? I would love to see your ring!

That looks very pretty! I know of one person here who has some right hand rings made by Parade, so I assume they are good quality. Just be sure they are ordering a new setting from Parade in your size and made for the shape and size of your diamond.

I think that setting is lovely! But just because I promised, here are some of the CVB setting.

It is so beautiful Niel! I really love what you did with it.

Diamond seeker, it is definitely being made for my ring. At least that's what the month long turnaround indicated to me. Thank you!

I so love all theses designers though that this is experience may have created a monster. :cheeky:
