What is the best month to be wed in?

In other words, which month would be the least expensive AND still very pretty and have good weather.

Please show all work.

(This is obviously subjective. Experts often say May, June, September, October are the most popular and expensive.)

I would have to know what part of the country you were in....very different depending on location.

Oh good. point.

Mid-atlantic states, U.S.

We're thinking of an October wedding -- that's the month we met, and while fall is not a particularly popular time of year for weddings, I'd love to have the ceremony in an outdoor setting with the lush colors of autumn.

Where do you want to honeymoon? We picked our date based more on a good time to go to Belize than anything else.

OMG- I love the fall!!!! That picture is beautiful!!!!

I have a little tip for ya VH: the last weekend in March!!! In April the prices go up!!!! I did March b/c CHANCES are, it's not going to snow...and it's not going to be too cold or too warm (I HATE HATE HATE the heat)... so you can still have beautiful pix outside...and no april showers yet...AND , that was perfect for the honeymoon in the bahamas...b/c the weather was awesome...not summer hot!!!! Just watch out for spring break....

Oh yeah, and watch out for Easter...a lot of people go away...I'm think easter is in April and then other times in March...

March is out of the question.

BIL's wedding is in early June and he beat me to the engagement punch. I'm willing to bet dollars to donuts that his fiancee will hold a grudge for eternity if we leap frog their wedding!

We're fine with a fall wedding. I LOVE the fall and prefer it to be a little cripser than a little warmer any day!

I wonder, however, if in the mid-atlantic it will be more colorful in Sept or October... or November?

Another good idea someone had was to base the wedding date on honeymoon travel rates! Good one to think about!

I'm an old bride just cruising around here but here's my .02. I got married on November 23, 1991. A clear, crisp day with a 59 degree high. I don't know where in the mid-Atlantic you live, but here in central NC the leaves are at their peak around then. We have gorgeous photos of us standing in the colored leaves outside the church with a bright red tree in the background. No trouble finding reception places since the Christmas party rush hadn't yet started. The only drawback has been 2 anniversaries so far on Thanksgiving, and the proximity to Christmas and my DH's December birthday put a strain on the old pocketbook for gift giving.

My older sister who lived in Albuquerque had a January 9 wedding and she got some huge bargains. She had 2 country clubs in a price war to host her reception. Also had great quotes from 3 florists and 3 photographers in their slow season between Christmas and Valentines. The country club she chose had huge floor to ceiling windows with a breathtaking view of the snow covered Sandia mountains in the background. Great pictures and the weather was warm enough for some outside photos showing the mountains.

Edited to add: There was nothing strategic or sentimental about choosing Nov. 23. My DH's lease on his apartment was going to be up at the end of Nov. and it gave me 7 months from my proposal to plan. My sister chose a winter wedding at the request of her fiancee who had been married before in a summer wedding and wanted something totally different the second go around. We both honeymooned in Cancun, Mexico- great tropical weather all year round.

The fall colors peak around October here in Virginia. Which is why we are having our wedding at an over look near Wintergreen the end of October. This is a link to our officiant, she has pictures from various outdoor sites across VA.

I agree that a fall wedding would be gorgeous. We wanted a nice fall wedding, but being in Southern California that was foiled by 92 degree heat on November 6th. Go figure. Not too comfy when your bridesmaids are wearing velvet either,,,OUCH. Anyways, my vote would be for early fall in your area. Just check out the farmers almanac online to see what your weather is looking like before you decide. Good luck!

If cost is a concern here are my two suggestions:

1) A Christmastime wedding. I know someone getting married this Dec. She hasn't had to worry about decorations because the reception site will be already decorated for all those Christmas parties they host. As it's generally not a busy time for wedding vendors, she has also been able to get great deals on photography, flowers, and music.

2) Have the wedding during the week. My best friend called me in a panick last year. Their plans for a destination wedding fell through, and did I think they could host a wedding for 120 guests for $10,000. Yes, I said. Hold the wedding during the week when vendors are least busy. She said impossible. I said have it on the Thursday evening before Good Friday. Sure enough they kept within budget. Many of the guests loved that their long Easter weekend was being kicked off with a beautiful wedding. And I have to admit that it was one of the most amazing weddings I had ever attended.
