What are some of the best ways to clean diamond earrings in gold settings?? I used dishwashing liquid and a toothbrush earlier today and it looks really spotty up close under light. I recently purchased two diamonds from BGD with a total weight of .67CTs. So I was just trying to see if I can make out the arrows even though they arent very big. After I cleaned it though, it looks like a bunch of really small water spots on it and I was wondering if thats ok?? I only see it when I shine an LED light onto the top of it though.

Your not suppose to see water spot. Don't use hard water, rinsed with very hot water and dry it with a towel that is not plush.

I just tried using warm sink water with windex and used warm water to rinse it off and it does look alot better. Do you guys think windex and yellow gold is alright to mix with???

I wash mine in dish soap, hot water and a little ammonia. I rinse under hot water and believe it or not I use my blow dryer to dry them.

Windex should be just fine. I also rinse mine in rubbing alcohol sometimes to reduce spotting.

Are they set in white or yellow gold? I'm not sure if you're suppose to use ammonia on white gold.

What you can do to get rid of water spots is dry your stones after you wash them. I soak my earrings in lukewarm water and soap and then scrub them with a baby toothbrush and then dry them with a lint-free cloth.

14k yellow gold, they are J colored stones so when I shine a LED on the side of the earring It brings out a faint yellow color in the diamond that still sparkles. I think thats a cool feature seeing as the earrings dont show any color in any type of normal lighting.

I use dish soap + ammonia + water on palladium, platinum, YG and WG.
No problems so far!
Bleach (chlorine) and vinegar are not good for white gold, but I don't see any problem with ammonia.
