Best way to contact David Klass?

Sorry  I'm biting people's heads off left, right and centre today. Maybe I should get offline.

If being online offers you emotional comfort, don't get off. Many of us have been through something like it, and we all understand. Better vent here than facing certain real people.

I didn't realize I would touch such a nerve. I asked to make sure I had the right method of communication for David and Amy. Some people aren't email people even if they are business people or they might prefer new customers call first. And I don't think its fair to compare a small business to a larger business. There are always tradeoffs in life. I could go ask a larger business to make my necklace but I would pay a premium for that. Since I expect David will be more reasonable in terms of price I'm happy to accept a longer response time.

In any event, although I'm useless at it, I'm happy to wait. The upside is I might now have earrings to add to my project list!
BTW, sorry for not mentioning you in my "good wish post", but your avatar is constantly distracting me from what you write. I start thinking about how it looks IRL, what is the finger coverage, how it sits on your hand, how far away one could notice it, etc, etc... Seriously. Would you believe that I forgot that you were the OP, lol? I am constantly eyeing this pink spinel. It happens to me when I see some beautiful rings in the avatars.

theredspinel -

The staff from DKJ were at JCK for a week, then Amy went on vacation and David has the flu. And yes, they care a great deal about how they present themselves to customers, but they're real people existing in real time, not just in some fantasy land of perfect customer service. To suggest otherwise is uninformed.

The automated response thing sounds great - because it makes everyone feel their email was heard and noted - which of course it ISN'T, because it's AUTOMATED. Far better to wait to hear from a real person. They're so swamped because their work is so good and their prices are low - and I think that's all they 'owe' their custoners. And, as you say, it's a luxury hobby; it's not like we're waiting to hear from them about our upcoming brain surgery.

Try calling.
Seems weird to me to urge people -- after informing us that Amy was/is on vacation & David has the flu & in conjunction with your call for consideration of "real people existing in real time" -- to ring his phone. Were I laid up with the flu, I wouldn't want to field phone calls & bouncing calls to voicemail is no more responsive than an email automated reply.

I too can't conceive of a scenario where commissioning/purchasing a piece of jewelry would be an emergency crisis that genuinely needs first responder-like immediate attention. And much as I like being able to order a coffee maker or some other kind of stockpiled "widget" from Amazon at midnight if I want, I don't expect merchants (especially sole propietors & small businesses) to be at my beck and call, wouldn't expect to receive a response in the evenings or on weekends.

Still, common courtesy isn't (or shouldn't be) only a hallmark of "some fantasy land of perfect customer service." I guess maybe there are people who might consider, at least initially, an automated email reply as "being heard and noted." But I think they're the exception, that the vast majority realize it's not a personalized communique. Automated replies are, however, a great means of letting folks know, for example, that you're out of town until X date and will begin returning emails and calls on Y date. And automated replies (and/or an advisory posted on one's web site) take mere seconds to compose. There's no reason not to use them.

Hey MollyMalone :)

I saw your post earlier, but now can't find it. I just wanted to clarify. There are more than 2 people who work at DKJ, which is why calling is still worthwhile.

It was also a pragmatic response - ie - if one emails, and it doesn't work, try calling.

I'm aware that this sort of thing just doesn't razz me up all that much. I've renovated a whole heap of houses over the last 20 or so years - for myself, for others, for real estate agents and for friends - and worked with hundreds of different contractors. Once you've done that, you're almost IMMUNE to 'missing contractor/radio silence' syndrome. You work out how much you want whatever it is that you want, and then you plug away. That's it. That's my whole modus operandi. Rather than trying to change what I can't change and sending myself nuts, I tend to work out what my limit is. When I've hit that limit, I vote with my feet and go somewhere else. Until then, I just keep plugging. Otherwise it would drive me out of my mind with frustration, and my experience is that most people are doing their best and are working within real-time limitations.

Ergo, my genuine advice to anyone in this situation would be - call; it won't necessarily get you what you want, but it's just one more iron in the fire re trying to get someone to respond.

ETA Good lord - I just refreshed the page and saw your post! I think I was posting on an old version of this page - sorry Molly! I see you now. :)

No worries at all! The mahenge spinel is approx 8 by 6mm and Caysie's setting is very delicate. It's quite dainty in real life. Also it probably doesn't help that the finger I wear it on is a size 7.25. However, It does sit up quite high so folks do notice it. And it looks amazing in office light. I wear it to work and I've had people ask about it from across a conference room table so it is definitely eyecatching. Here are some hand shots in my office lighting. The color doesn't come across quite as vivid in these photos as it is in real life. In real life it does look very close to the glamor shot. Also, I've included some with my ering (sapphire) as well because that is a much chunkier setting and with the halo is about 10-11mm wide.

I still feel very lucky that @minousbijoux decided to part with this beauty.

The spinel certainly punches above its size :) I love it!

I understand. Spinels are color changers and unfortunately, modern energy-efficient bulbs generate nasty spectrum. They are not gem-friendly. Beautiful stone, though!

I think he’s around, just got an email from him last night (he just finished a ring from me). I’d give him a call or text if he’s not getting back to you.
