Black Diamonds or not???

I wouldnt waist my time if you think you wont like the one at the current store. If you have your heart set on something its hard to have something else. If you think you'll like the one at the store go for it, but if you think you want that BG one and this one most likely wont satisfy I just wouldnt bother and I would just send your stone to BG. you know?

You are SO right! I think I could like the one from the store but I think I would LOVE the BGD one. Plus I am very worried about anyone and everyone adding then taking off my fleur details. So my instinct is really telling me to let BGD do the entire thing and then I won't yet have more regret with something I settled for.
It's amazing how much time I have invested in thinking about e-rings. :errrr:

we have all obsessed about it dont worry
small amount of time when you consider how long you will wear it. Just get what you want so you wont regret it later

I agree. I am posting this picture I found from Enerchis thread. This is what I am looking for but with my Fluer detail instead of what is currently there (which is what my ring had before they made the fleur's) Matter of fact the ring I just returned (second picture) is the "after" picture once the pave and my fleur details where added.

BUT since I have not been able to find this, I have found the Grace settings that I really like. BUT, I am not sure how the fleur's would be added to the side of the Grace because of the basket (I think that's what it is )that is around it. I am not sure what this is called as you can see from the first and second picture it doesn't have that detail, just prongs. In fact I have never had this on a ring, so don't know to much about it. I actually asked BGD if I could add my detail to the Eternal Grace and they said they couldn't. So unless this Grace is positioned a little different than the Eternal Grace I am not sure how they could do it?

Ugh, I feel like I am getting closer with these four pictures. So that makes me feel good. Looking forward to everyone's thoughts and ideas!!

Thanks,

p.s. I really like the split prong Grace but keep in mind my diamond is a 1.01 round, so it might look better with the 4 prong?????

I'm far from an expert, but I think the fleur might fit better in the first setting you posted as opposed to the BGD ring - the gap between prongs looks kind of wide on the Grace setting, not sure the fleur would fit properly?

I'd be inclined to have a chat with Paul Emerson from Van Craeynest because they have experience with working with fleur-de-lis heads. Apparently they have simple modern art deco designs in their die library, if you're not interested in the VC designs. Even if you are interested in the Brian Gavin, Grace setting with your fleur-de-lis head he would be a useful person to talk your ideas through with. Email address:

I think you are making a mistake trying to fit a detail from an existing ring onto a new ring. Keep the setting you have as is and set a colored stone in it eventually. It will be beautiful!. Then get the ring you want custom made and do it right. I agree with Polished that Van Craynest does do nice fleur-de-lis heads. I do not think it will work to stick a fleur on the BG Grace setting. I was thinking that your current ring is white gold but you want to change to platinum, right? So that really isn't a good idea to move the wg fleurs to a platinum ring, in my opinion. Plus, the shank of the Grace is low and will limit what wedding bands you can wear with it. Someone here had it and changed to another setting because of the difficulty getting a diamond wedding band low enough.

Agree with DS - it sounds like a fairly complicated process, transferring over part of an existing setting. And the more complicated things get, the more room for error and disappointment. Keep the setting as is, use it for something else. Let BGD do his thing, or get the FDL head setting from JbEG (I love it!), or contact VC for information about their settings. With jewelry, it is truly difficult to work with pre-existing bits and pieces.

Just a FYI on my current situation.
I have already returned my setting and they are taking off the fleurs that where made. I posted a picture of what was on the ring I returned when I bought it and then it was removed and fleurs where added.

The fleur's are platinum.

If I could somehow track down this ring in this picture I would very seriously consider buying it, if they could remove the side detail and add mine. (which was done on the platinum ring I just returned) I sent an e-mail to IDJ.

As for the BGD I am not sure how any of these ideas would be done, so that is why I have contacted them, but they haven't give me an straight answer of how it would be attached to the Grace setting, but they did say they could do it.

All of the concern's everyone mentioned are concern's I already have, but it's nice to know I'm not the only thinking them.

I am about to just put my diamond in a regular shank for now and stop thinking about this ring idea. :errrr:

So keep your ideas coming, this site is such a huge help and makes me feel better.

Thanks

I have to say that black diamonds are not my cup of tea. They don't add much to jewelry IMO, including your setting. If you like dark, how about rubies? They are so beautiful and dramatic.
