Hello my fellow PSers, again I need your expertise on a blue topaz I just received. It is 21.85ct, measures 16.20 x 11.95mm. You can see that is almost too big for any piece. (I normally like clean look design) But I really love the color. Any ideas on what to do so it won''t sit in a box? The actual stone is brighter and ligher color than the picture. Thanks in advance for your help!

oooh, how pretty!!! How about a pave halo pendant? or maybe a double stand of pearls for a bracelet and that could be the center or it? OR a prong set pendant on a long chain, that hangs low, like atthe breastbone?

What abot seting it flush in a silver cuff?

What about setting it in an ultra thin bezel and then wearing it in the hollow of your neck as a choker.

I REALLY like the idea of setting it flush in a silver cuff. Except would it be too deep for that?
A neat pendant would be really cool.

The reason I said that is becuase I have an oval aquamarine set into a silver cuff. It is lighter then the one shown but it looks great! I used to calll it my super hero bracelt.

Give size, could be pendant, bracelet or pin... but pendant is the more popular shape of these. I''d probably do it either close to the neck (right on the collar bone) or on a long chain with several (asymmetric?) stations, set as a fob. I used to wear a large stone in a choker but quit on it. The other version sounds allot more appealing now, especially that Deco style is back. Besides, such a stone cannot be understated no matter what, so better be that the whole piece is a versatile attention getter.

Just a thought

Thanks everyone for your ideas!

I''ve thought about the choker, but a stone that size with that color will only look fake fake! And it is not my style.

I like the idea of a long chain, just need to work out the mounting details. Can someone share some inspiration pictures?

A friend told me to make it a button sort so it can tie my sweater or cardigan together. I like that too, but how to mount something this deep?

Set it into a ring ;) Niceee..

Okay this may sound weighd but what about a belt buckle? I think that could look really spiffy and some of the craftsmen who make thos buckles make stunning peices....

I was talking to Michael E about this topaz and he suggested ''window jewlery''. I think it is a brilliant idea! If I can get this mounted securely and then hang from my kitchen window, or on my rear view window in my car, I can see it every day without wearing a giant piece. What do you think about the idea?

Way cool !

And you would definitely not be alone... One of my colleagues keeps all sorts of small & rather precious thingies on her desh at work (hers are small semiprecious carvings set with sometimes jeweled precious metal highlights). This fits rather well someone who spends much of her time working: that desk must have been her ''view''. So... whatever object fits your favorite spot hould be very fit to accomodate the topaz one way or another.

Unfortunately for some reason I can't see your stone, but here's a lovely pendant with a large stone. A big brooch would be nice too.

HI:

Great picture Camilla--extraordinary pendant! A pendant or brooch would be my choice as well, although Vuitton (jewellery) made a big splash this year with very large carat stone rings that were quite tempting.....

cheers--Sharon

Camilla that is just a beautiful pendant. How about a brooch/pendant where it can be both. I have seen this many times and you get two looks in one!!!

Wow! Your stone is gorgeous!

I have a blue topaz ring. I am attaching yet another of my "fine" photos [sarcasm here] taken with my cell phone [yeah, yeah, I know, get a camera, girl!]. It will at least give you an idea of the setting. The stone is about 13 - 14 carats [14mmx14mm approx - measured with a ruler!]. It is kind of an Asscher type cut.

Is it a deep stone? If it is not too deep, I can see it as the center of a pearl choker like the one Princess Diana had, several strands of pearls with the big sapphire clasp. A creative jeweler should be able to come up with ways to make it flexible, so it can be a pin, a pendant, a clasp or a pearl necklace enhancer.

That is a great idea! I second this one.
